Evaluation of forest ecosystem services is a hot topic,both in china and at abroad,but it has not yet obtained a consistency of evaluation indicator systems and evaluation *** the framework of evaluation criteria to be implemented for forest ecosystem services,years of consecutive observation data from Long Term Ecological research Stations affiliated to Chinese forest Ecosystem research Network(CFErN),forest resource inventory and public data were applied to carry out a detailed and dynamic evaluation on the physical quantity and value of ecosystem services of Chinese pine forests in *** results showed that the above services had the total value and unit value of 1144.9640 billion(1.1449640×10 12 )rMB and 52.074 thousand rMB per hectare per year,respectively during the 9th Five-year plan(1996―2000),and of 1190.5461 billion rMB and 52.101 thousand rMB per hectare per year,respectively,during the 10th Five-year plan(2001―2005).For Chinese pine forests,water conservation was 40.40 hundred million cubic meters annually,soil conservation was 67 million tons and C fixation 9 million tons annually,production of healthful negative ions was 1.96×10 20 , absorption of SO2 was 5.02 hundred million kilograms and dust-catching was 759.10 hundred million kilograms. Among the 15 provinces of china with Chinese pine forests,the biggest beneficiary from ecosystem services was Liaoning province;while Hunan province was the smallest beneficiary between the 9th Five-year plan.

A study was conducted to explore the mechanism that emissions of volatile organic compounds（VOC） from heated needles and twigs（200°C,within 15 min） of pinus pumila affect fire behaviours using the technology of Thermal Desorption-Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry（TD-GC-MS）.The results indicated that the main components of VOC from heated needles and twigs are *** of these terpenoids are *** account for 72.93% for the needles and 92.40% for the twigs of the total VOC,and their emission ratios are 61.200 μg·g-1 and 217.060 μg·g-1 *** twigs can emit more terpenoids than heated needles because twigs had more volatile oils than *** actual fires,these large amounts of terpenoid emissions,especially the monoterpene emissions,have strong effects on fire behaviors that are not only in the initial stage but also in the fast propagation stage of *** flammable gases are capable of causing violent combustion and creating crown *** addition,if these gases accumulate in an uneven geographical area,there will be a possible for eruptive fires and/or fires flashover to occur.

The Global Invasive Species Database, GISD, comprises 27 species of the most significant invasive alien insects in the world (through November, 2005), 6 of which are originally native to china, 11 are established in china, and 10 have a potential invasion threat to china. This paper discusses these species in terms of distribution, harmfulness and dispersal ways, and finds that: (i) Information re-garding invasive insects in the GISD remains inadequate. Such harmful invasive species as Opogona sacchari (Bojer), Oracella acuta (Lobdell), and Dendroctonus valens LeConte are not included. (ii) Ten species of invasive insects, particularly Lasius neglectus Van Loon and Linepithema humile (Mayr) which become established in areas near china, have the potential to become established in china. (iii) Special attention should be paid to species from Asia and the Americas because of their greater likeli-hood of becoming established in china. Finally, some management strategies including legislation, quarantine, early warning, prevention and control are suggested.

We studied the molecular mechanism of the quality traits of wood formation in *** used the immature latewood cells of two Japanese larch(Larix kaempferi)clones with significant differences in density and in microfibrillar angle(MFA)as materials to analyze their gene expression profiles.A total of 1735 differentially expressed genes were detected in immature latewood cells of the two clones,among which,971 were up-regulated and 764 were *** gene expression profiling analysis revealed that genes encoding transcription factor members NAC66 and r2r3-MYB4,microtubule-associated protein,actin-related protein,cell wall protein members,arabinogalactan protein,Fasciclin-like arabinogalactan protein and glycine-rich protein,and several cell-wall-synthesis genes affected wood density and MFA by regulating latewood formation at transcriptional *** study results represent a basis for selection of quality traits and genetic improvement of larch wood.

Tectonic activities are accompanied with material movement and energy transfer, which definitely change the state of thermal radiation on the ground. Thus it is possible to infer present-day tectonic activities based on variations of the thermal radiation state on the ground. The received satellite infrared information is, however, likely influenced by many kinds of factors. Therefore, the first problem that needs to be solved is to extract information on tectonic activities and eliminate effects of external (non-tectonic) factors. In this study, we firstly make a review of the current studies on this subject, and then present the technical approach and our research goal. Using the data of 20 years from the infrared band of the satellite of National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration (NOAA) and the method we have developed, we investigate fault activities in western china. The results show that the areas with high residual values of land surface brightness temperature (LSBT), which is presumably related to faultings in space, accord usually with the locations of followed major earthquakes. The times of their value growing are also roughly consistent with the beginning of active periods of earthquakes. The low frequency component fields of the LSBT, acquired from wavelet analysis, exhibit well the spatial distributions of active faults. The "heat penetrability index" (HpI) related with enhancement of subsurface thermal information has been expressed well for the backgrounds of accelerated tectonic motions, and some correlations exist between HpI and the local faulting and seismicity. This study provides a new approach to study temporal-spatial evolution of recent activities of faults and their interactions.

In recent years, many serious forest fires occurred in precious pinus pumila forests in Daxing'anling Mountains of Heilongjiang province and Inner Mongolia. But up to now, there is still a lack of proper understanding of fire occurrence environments in p. pumila forests. In present paper, we investigated and studied the fire occurrence environments. The results showed that fires in p. pumila forests had their own special fire environments. Abundant fuel, drought weather, dry thunder and high altitude terrain created the special fire occurrence environments in p. pumila forests in Daxing'anling

The wild-type Cry1Ie gene from Bacillus thuringiensis was modified for its efficient expression in transgenic plants. Modified Cry1Ie gene (designated as Cry1Iem) was cloned into prokaryotic expression vector pET28b and its expression in E. coli was confirmed by SDS-pAGE analysis. Bioassays using crude expression products in E. coli revealed that Cry1Iem protein had a similar toxicity to corn borer as wild-type Cry1Ie. Cry1Iem gene was then inserted downstream of the maize ubiquitin-1 promoter in plant expression vector p3301. Transgenic tobacco plants carrying Cry1Iem showed insecticidal activity against corn borer.

Using 2-D electrophoresis and virus overlay assay, a 50-kDa protein (p50) exhibiting specific binding to purified virus particles of BYDV-GAV was found in the protein extracts from Schizaphis graminum and Sitobion avenae, two aphid species transmitting BYDV-GAV. p50 in the extracts of S. graminum was isolated by preparation electrophoresis and electro-eluted proteins from the gel slices for antiserum preparation. After feeding the antiserum through membrane, the transmission efficiencies of S. graminum and S. avenae for BYDV-GAV decreased significantly. It was suggested that p50 should be related with transmission pro- cess. Location of p50 was found at the plasma membrane surrounding the accessory salivary gland (ASG) in the head tissues of S. graminum by immunogold-labelling experiment. The ascertainment of the protein associated with virus transmission has a significance influence on further understanding the transmission mechanism and genetic engineering for resistant to vector transmission.
