The role of cross-listing,foreign ownership and state ownership in dividend policy in an emerging market

In this paper, we investigate if dividend policy is influenced by ownership *** the dividend literature, dividends have a signaling role regarding agency costs, such that dividends may diminish insider conflicts(reduce free cash flow) or may be used to extract cash from firms(tunneling effect)- which could be predominant in emerging markets. We expect firms with foreign ownership and those that are listed in overseas markets to have different dividend policies and practices than those that are not, and firms with more state ownership and less individual ownership to be more likely to pay cash dividends and less likely to pay stock dividends. Using firms from an emerging economy(china), we examine whether these effects exist in corporate dividend policy and practice. We find that both foreign ownership and cross-listing have significant negative effects on cash dividends, consistent with the signaling effect and the notion of reduced tunneling activities for firms with the ability to raise capital from outside of china. consistent with the tunneling effect, we find that firms with higher state ownership tend to pay higher cash dividends and lower stock dividends, while the opposite is true for public(individual) *** analysis shows that foreign ownership mediates the effect of state ownership on dividend policy. Our results have significant implications for researchers, investors, policy makers and regulators in emerging markets.

The role of photovaporization of the prostate in small volume benign prostatic hyperplasia and review of the literature

Effect of abutment modeling on the seismic response ofbridge structures

Abutment behavior significantly influences the seismic response of certain bridge structures. Specifically in the case of short bridges with relatively stiff superstructures typical of highway overpasses, embankment mobilization and inelastic behavior of the soil material under high shear deformation levels dominate the response of the bridge and its column bents. This paper investigates the sensitivity of bridge seismic response with respect to three different abutment modeling approaches. The abutment modeling approaches are based on three increasing levels of complexity that attempt to capture the critical components and modes of abutment response without the need to generate continuum models of the embankment, approach, and abutment foundations. Six existing reinforced concrete bridge structures, typical of Ordinary Bridges in california, are selected for the analysis. Nonlinear models of the bridges are developed in OpenSees. Three abutment model types of increasing complexity are developed for each bridge, denoted as roller, simplified, and spring abutments. The roller model contains only single-point constraints. The spring model contains discrete representations of backfill, bearing pad, shear key, and back wall behavior. The simplified model is a compromise between the efficient roller model and the comprehensive spring model. Modal, pushover, and nonlinear dynamic time history analyses are conducted for the six bridges using the three abutment models for each bridge. comparisons of the analysis results show major differences in mode shapes and periods, ultimate base shear strength, as well as peak displacements of the column top obtained due to dynamic excitation. The adequacy of the three abutment models used in the study to realistically represent all major resistance mechanisms and components of the abutments, including an accurate estimation of their mass, stiffness, and nonlinear hysteretic behavior, is evaluated. Microstructural Degradation of Thermal Barrier coatings on an Integrated Gasification combined cycle (IGcc) Simulated Film-cooled Turbine Vane Pressure Surface Due to Particulate Fly Ash Deposition

Research is being conducted to study the degradation of thermal barrier coatings (TBc) employed on IGcc turbine hot section airfoils due to particulate deposition from contaminants in coal syn-thesis gas (syngas). West Virginia University (WVU) had been working with US Department of Energy, National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to simulate deposition on the pressure side of an IGcc turbine first stage vane. To simulate the contaminant deposition, several TBc coated, angled film-cooled test articles were subjected to accelerated coal fly ash, which was injected into the flow of a combustor facility with a high pressure (approximately 4 atm) and a high temperature (1560 K) environment. To investigate the degradation of the TBcs due to particulate deposition, non-destructive tests were performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) evaluation and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) examinations. The SEM evaluation was used to display the microstructure change within the layers of the TBc system directly related to the fly ash deposition. The SEM micrographs showed that deposition-TBc interaction made the YSZ coating more susceptible to delamination and promoted a dissolution-reprecipitation mechanism that changed the YSZ morphology and composition. The EDS examination provided elemental maps of the shallow infiltration depth of the fly ash and chemical composition spectrum results which showed yttria migration from the YSZ into the deposition.

The clinical impact of tricuspid regurgitation in patients with a biatrial orthotopic heart transplant

In this study,we aim to elucidate the clinical impact and long-term course of tricuspid regurgitation(TR),taking into account its dynamic nature,after biatrial orthotopic heart transplant(OHT).All consecutive adult patients undergoing biatrial OHT(1984−2017)with an available follow-up echocardiogram were ***-models were used to model the evolution of *** mixed-model was inserted into a cox model in order to address the association of the dynamic TR with *** total,572 patients were included(median age:50 years,males:74.9%).Approximately 32% of patients had moderate-to-severe TR immediately after ***,this declined to 11%on 5 years and 9% on 10 years after surgery,adjusted for survival *** mechanical support was associated with less TR during follow-up,whereas concurrent LV dysfunction was significantly associated with more TR during *** at 1,5,10,20 years was 97%±1%,88%±1%,66%±2% and 23%±2%,*** presence of moderate-to-severe TR during follow-up was associated with higher mortality(HR:1.07,95%cI(1.02–1.12),p=0.006).The course of TR was positively correlated with the course of creatinine(R=0.45).TR during follow-up is significantly associated with higher mortality and worse renal ***,probability of TR is the highest immediately after OHT and decreases ***,it may be reasonable to refrain from surgical intervention for TR during earlier phase after OHT.
