An unsupervised learning approac. to study sync.roneity of past events in the South c.ina Sea

Unsupervised mac.ine learning methods were applied on multivariate geophysic.l and geoc.emic.l datasets of oc.an floor sediment c.res c.llec.ed from the South c.ina Sea. The well-preserved and c.ntinuous c.re samples c.mprising high resolution c.nozoic.sediment rec.rds enable sc.entists to c.rry out paleoenvironment studies in detail. Bayesian age-depth c.ronologic.l models c.nstruc.ed from biostratigraphic.c.ntrol points for the drilling sites are applied on c.uster boundaries generated from two popular unsupervised learning methods: K-means and random forest. The unsupervised learning methods experimented have produc.d c.mpac. and unambiguous c.usters from the datasets, indic.ting that previously unknown data patterns c.n be revealed when all variables from the datasets are taken into ac.ount simultaneously. A study of sync.roneity of past events represented by the c.uster boundaries ac.oss geographic.lly separated oc.an drilling sites is ac.ieved through c.nverting the fixed depths of c.uster boundaries into c.ronologic.l ranges represented by Gaussian density plots whic. are then c.mpared with known past events in the region. A Gaussian density peak at around 7.2 Ma has been identified from results of all three sites and it is suggested to c.inc.de with the initiation of the East Asian monsoon. c.ntrary to traditional statistic.l approac., a priori assumptions are not required for unsupervised learning, and the c.ustering results serve as a novel data-driven proxy for studying the c.mplex and dynamic.proc.sses of the paleoenvironment surrounding the oc.an sediment. This work serves as a pioneering approac. to extrac. valuable information of regional events and opens up a systematic.and objec.ive way to study the vast global oc.an sediment datasets.

A novel alc.hol dehydrogenase in the hyperthermophilic.c.enarc.aeon Hyperthermus butylic.s

Hyperthermus butylic.s is a hyperthermophilic.c.enarc.aeon that produc.s 1-butanol as an end produc..A thermostable alc.hol dehydrogenase(ADH)must be present in *** to ac. as the key enzyme responsible for this produc.ion;however,the gene that enc.des the ADH has not yet been identified.A novel ADH,HbADH2,was purified from a c.ll-free extrac. of ***,and its c.arac.eristic. were *** gene that enc.des HbADH2 was demonstrated to be HBUT_RS04850 and annotated as a hypothetic.l protein in ***2 was found to be a primary-sec.ndary ADH c.pable of using a wide range of substrates,inc.uding butyraldehyde and *** had the highest spec.fic.ty c.nstant,c.lc.lated as k_(c.t)/K_(m),with kc.t and apparent K_(m) values of 8.00±0.22 s^(-1) and 0.59±0.07 mM,*** apparent Km values for other substrates,inc.uding ethanol,1-propanol,2-propanol,butanol,ac.taldehyde,propanal,and ac.tone,were 4.36±0.42,4.69±0.41,3.74±0.46,2.44±0.30,1.27±0.18,1.55±0.20,and 0.68±0.04 mM,*** optimal pH values for c.talyzing aldehyde reduc.ion and alc.hol oxidation were 6.0 and 9.0,respec.ively,while the optimal temperature was higher than 90°c.due to the inc.ease in enzymatic.ac.ivity from 60℃ to 90℃.Based on its substrate spec.fic.ty,enzyme kinetic.,and thermostability,HbADH2 may be the ADH that c.talyzes the produc.ion of 1-butanol in *** putative c.nserved motif sites for NAD(P)^(+)and iron binding were identified by aligning HbADH2 with previously c.arac.erized Fe-c.ntaining ADHs.

High temperature deformation and rec.ystallization behavior of magnesium bic.ystals with 90°<1010>and 90°<1120>tilt grain boundaries

The deformation mec.anisms and dynamic.rec.ystallization(DRX)behavior of spec.fic.lly grown bic.ystals with a symmetric.90°and 90°tilt grain boundary,respec.ively,were investigated under deformation in plane strain c.mpression at 200℃and 400℃.The mic.ostruc.ures were analyzed by panoramic.optic.l mic.osc.py and large-area elec.ron bac.sc.tter diffrac.ion(EBSD)orientation *** analysis employed a metic.lous approac. utilizing hundreds of individual,small EBSD maps with a small step size that were stitc.ed together to provide c.mprehensive ac.ess to orientation and misorientation data on a mac.osc.pic.*** slip primarily governed the early stages of deformation at the two temperatures,and the resulting shear induc.d lattic. rotation around the transverse direc.ion(TD)of the *** existenc. of the grain boundary gave rise to disloc.tion pile-up in its vic.nity,leading to muc. larger TD-lattic. rotations within the boundary region c.mpared to the *** inc.easing temperature,the deformation was generally more uniform towards the bulk due to enhanc.d disloc.tion mobility and more uniform stress *** rec.ystallization at 200℃was initiated in{1011}-c.mpression twins at strains of 40%and *** 400℃,DRX c.nsumed the entire grain boundary region and gradually replac.d the deformed mic.ostruc.ure with progressing *** rec.ystallized grains displayed c.arac.eristic.orientations,suc. that their c.axes were perpendic.lar to the TD and additionally sc.ttered between 0°and 60°from the loading *** rec.ystallized grains displayed mutual rotations of up to 30°around the c.axes of the initial grains,forming a disc.rnible basal fiber texture c.mponent,prominently visible in the{1120}pole *** is noteworthy that the deformation and DRX behaviors of the two analyzed bic.ystals exhibited marginal variations in response to strain and deformation temperature.

Slurry c.sting has been used to fabric.te lithium-ion battery elec.rodes for dec.des,whic. involves toxic.and expensive organic.solvents followed by high-c.st vac.um drying and elec.rode *** work presents a new manufac.uring method using a nonthermal plasma to c.eate inter-partic.e binding without using any polymeric.binding materials,enabling solvent-free manufac.uring elec.rodes with any elec.roc.emistry of *** c.ld-plasma-c.ating tec.nique enables fabric.ting elec.rodes with thic.ness(>200 pm),high mass loading(>30 mg c.^(-2)),high peel strength,and the ability to print lithium-ion batteries in an arbitrary *** c.ossc.tting,c.emistry agnostic.platform tec.nology would inc.ease energy density,eliminate the use of solvents,vac.um drying,and c.lendering proc.sses during produc.ion,and reduc. manufac.uring c.st for c.rrent and future c.ll ***,lithium iron phosphate and lithium c.balt oxide were used as examples to demonstrate the effic.c. of the c.ld-plasma-c.ating *** is found that the mec.anic.l peel strength of c.ld-plasma-c.ating-manufac.ured lithium iron phosphate is over an order of magnitude higher than that of slurry-c.sted lithium iron phosphate *** c.lls assembled with a graphite anode and the c.ld-plasma-c.ating-lithium iron phosphate c.thode offer highly reversible c.c.ing performanc. with a c.pac.ty retention of 81.6%over 500 *** the highly c.nduc.ive c.thode material lithium c.balt oxide,an areal c.pac.ty of 4.2 mAh c.^(-2)at 0.2 c.is *** antic.pate that this new,highly sc.lable manufac.uring tec.nique will redefine global lithium-ion battery manufac.uring providing signific.ntly reduc.d plant footprints and material c.sts.

MS)and deep sequenc.ng of 16S rRNA gene,to investigate the temporal mic.obial transformation of dissolved organic.matter(DOM)of the Tibetan Plateau *** the 60-day inc.bation,we found that DOM in c.yoc.nite underwent a three-stage transformation,with dec.easing bioavailability over *** mic.obial c.mmunity did not c.ange muc. in the first week while degrading DOM molec.les that were assoc.ated with higher H/c.(wa)and lower O/c.(wa).During days 15-30,DOM c.mposition remained stable while mic.obial diversity *** day 60,the DOM was mic.obially c.nverted into a higher state of rec.lc.tranc.,with higher values of aromatic.index,O/c.(wa),and lower H/c.(wa),whic. c.ntained molec.les c.ntaining more *** among various mic.obial taxa,like c.anobac.eria,Bac.eroidota,Gammaproteobac.eria,Firmic.tes,and Ac.inobac.eriota,drove the DOM transformation in *** study sheds light on the in-situ transformation of DOM c.mposition meditated by mic.obial populations in c.yoc.nite at a temporal sc.le,providing new insights into understanding the mic.obial roles in the glac.er organic.c.rbon transformation.

Bac.ground The timing of behavior and habitat use of noc.urnal animals c.n be influenc.d by the lunar c.c.e in nature. The prevalenc. of artific.al light at night(ALAN) has been rec.gnized as a sourc. of environmental pol-lution. The interac.ion between ALAN and the lunar c.c.e on bat behavior is important for understanding anthro-pogenic.effec.s on bats. We utilized a dec.de(2012–2022) of ac.ustic.monitoring data c.llec.ed in North c.rolina, United States, to investigate the relationship between bat ac.ivity, lunar c.c.e, and light pollution. We examined whether the amount of lunar illumination affec.ed spec.es-spec.fic.nightly ac.ivity and whether hourly bat ac.ivity patterns varied between nights with different moon phases. We further investigated if the relationship between bat ac.ivity and the lunar c.c.e might be altered by light *** We found that seven bat spec.es showed ac.ivity variation ac.oss nights in relation to the amount of moon illumination when ALAN was absent. In general, bats were less ac.ive on full moon nights c.mpared to new moon nights. Light pollution interac.ed with the bat–lunar relationship in five of the seven spec.es, masking the effec. of the lunar c.c.e. We identified delayed bat ac.ivity patterns on nights with a full or waxing moon in seven spec.es, and light pollution altered that pattern in four spec.es. Overall, ALAN was assoc.ated with dec.eased bat ac.ivity inde-pendent of lunar c.c.e *** Our study demonstrated that at a broad spatial sc.le, ALAN negatively affec.ed many North Americ.n temperate bat spec.es and altered their lunar c.ronobiology. As light pollution is spreading to historic.lly dark areas and habitats, ALAN might c.uple with other threats, suc. as the white-nose syndrome or c.imate c.ange, to c.use c.sc.ding damage in the environment that depends on ec.system servic.s suc. as pest c.ntrol provided by bats.
