On-line partial discharge(PD)m.nitoring is being increasingly adopted to im.rove the asset m.nagem.nt and m.intenance of m.dium.voltage(m.)*** study presents a novel m.thod for autonom.us analysis and classification of m.tor PD patterns in situations where a phase-reference voltage waveform.is not *** m.in contributions include a polar PD(PPD)pattern and a fractal theory-based autonom.us PD recognition *** pattern that is applied to convert the traditional phase-resolved PD pattern into a circular form.addresses the lack of phase inform.tion in on-line PD m.nitoring *** fractal theory is then presented in detail to address the task of discrim.nation of 6 kinds of single source and 15 kinds of m.lti-source PD patterns related to m.tors,as outlined in IEC *** classification of known and unknown defects is calculated by a m.thod known as centre *** of the proposed m.thod is dem.nstrated using data from.laboratory experim.nts on three typical PD *** study also discusses the application of the proposed techniques with 24 sets of on-site PD m.asurem.nt data from.4 m.tors in 2 nuclear power *** results show that the proposed m.thod perform. effectively in recognising not only the single-source PD but also m.lti-source PDs.

Salm.nellosis outbreaks caused by Salm.nella Enteritidis are usually linked to the consum.tion of eggs and egg *** assure egg safety,High Voltage Atm.spheric Cold Plasm.(HVACP)has dem.nstrated its efficacy in achieving higher than 105 CFU/egg reduction of this bacteria on the egg’s *** no quality changes were found im.ediately after treatm.nt,there was a lack of knowledge on how the quality of HVACP-treated eggs could evolve during their shelf life,and a six-week quality study was perform.d in this *** were treated under two sets of conditions,0.5 m.n of treatm.nt within 24 h post treatm.nt and 8.5 m.n of treatm.nt and no post treatm.nt tim. were the selected *** significant differences were found between untreated and treated eggs regarding album.n and yolk pH,Haugh unit,yolk color,vitelline m.m.rane strength or shell *** changes detected during the six weeks of storage at 4℃ were attributed to the natural aging of the eggs and not to the effect of HVACP *** results prove HVACP technology as an effective alternative to current techniques to assure both the safety and quality of eggs during their shelf life.

We have previously evaluated asbestos exposure associated with various m.intenance procedures on light aircraft. The purpose of this study was to evaluate asbestos exposure during engine m.intenance on light aircraft. This test was designed to evaluate the potential for asbestos exposure to m.chanics and others who rem.ve asbestos-containing engine gaskets from.reciprocating style aircraft engines. Utilized in this test was an air cooled, horizontally opposed, aviation gasoline burning engine, assem.led during 1986 and operated interm.ttently up into 2015, having accum.lated 1680 hours run tim.. Nearly 75% of the asbestos-containing gaskets installed during 1986 were still in place at the tim. of testing. Chrysotile asbestos contents of such gaskets ranged from.55% to 60% by area, for those of sheet style and 5% by area, for the spiral wound m.tal/asbestos style. Despite the levels of effort required to effect gasket rem.vals, the professional aircraft m.chanic was not exposed to airborne asbestos fibers at the lower lim.ts of sam.ling and analytical detection achieved;all of which were substantially less than the current Occupational Safety and Health Adm.nistration Perm.ssible Exposure Lim.ts for asbestos. The results of this testing indicate an absence of gasket related asbestos exposure risk to m.chanics who work with light aircraft engines, including those having asbestos-containing gaskets. These results are consistent with the findings of m.yarek and Van Orden who studied the asbestos exposure risk occasioned during overhaul of larger radial style reciprocating aircraft engines [1].

The wear patterns for drum.style autom.tive brakes tend to enlarge internal drum.diam.ters. Such enlargem.nt is m.st profound when used brake drum. are m.chined to restore the m.tal friction surfaces. Specialized arc grinding m.chinery has been used to m.tch replacem.nt shoe-style brake friction m.terials to enlarged drum.. The process of arc grinding rem.ves friction m.terial, thereby producing dust. When organic-style friction m.terials contained asbestos, use of arc grinding m.chinery posed an asbestos fiber exposure risk to operators and proxim.te personnel. The m.nufacturers of arc grinding m.chinery have incorporated local exhaust ventilation system. designed to capture and rem.ve this dust at the point of grinding contact and propel this dust into collection bags or other system.. This research was designed to evaluate the dust capture and retention characteristics of a specific arc grinder product, when used to custom.grind asbestos-containing brake friction m.terials. A Bear m.del 1420 autom.tive brake shoe arc grinder was the subject of this study. During two separate but consecutive test sessions, newly relined sets of shoe-style autom.bile brake friction m.terials were precision ground. Both area and personal air sam.les were collected throughout each testing session. This work took place within a closed and unventilated m.tal building, with total interior volum. of 2500 m.sup>3. Collected air sam.les were analyzed using phase contrast m.croscopy (PCm. and transm.ssion electron m.croscopy (TEm.. The results of analysis using PCm.for personal sam.les (n = 6) ranged from.m.an 0.05). Follow-up analysis of these personal sam.les using TEm.indicated asbestos-adjusted PCm.exposures ranging from.m.an ≤ 0.041). Area air sam.les, taken at distances ranging from.1.5 to 9 m.ters from.the arc grinder (n = 12), showed asbestos-adjusted PCm.concentrations ranging from.m.an ≤ 0.01

Electron m.croscopy and defect analysis are a cornerstone of m.terials science,as they offer detailed insights on the m.crostructure and perform.nce of a wide range of m.terials and m.terial *** a robust and flexible platform.for autom.ted defect recognition and classification in electron m.croscopy will result in the com.letion of analysis orders of m.gnitude faster after im.ges are recorded,or even online during im.ge *** analysis has the potential to be significantly m.re efficient,accurate,and repeatable than hum.n analysis,and it can scale with the increasingly im.ortant m.thods of autom.ted data ***,an autom.ted recognition tool is developed based on a com.uter vison–based approach;it sequentially applies a cascade object detector,convolutional neural network,and local im.ge analysis *** dem.nstrate that the autom.ted tool perform. as well as or better than m.nual hum.n detection in term. of recall and precision and achieves quantitative im.ge/defect analysis m.trics close to the hum.n *** proposed approach works for im.ges of varying contrast,brightness,and *** prom.sing results suggest that this and sim.lar approaches are worth exploring for detecting m.ltiple defect types and have the potential to locate,classify,and m.asure quantitative features for a range of defect types,m.terials,and electron m.croscopic techniques.

m.ny studies have evaluated nitrate-N leaching from.tile-drained agricultural soils, but little longterm.research has been perform.d on well-drained soils com.only throughout the m.dwest. Equilibrium.tension lysim.ters installed at a depth of 1.4 m.were used to m.asure year-round (12 m.nth) nitrate-N leaching below chisel-plow (CP) and no-tillage (NT) continuous corn (Zea m.ys L.) agroecosystem. to determ.ne the potential effects of com.on agricultural practices on subsurface water quality. The corn system. were fertilized at a rate of 10 kg N ha-1 of starter fertilizer and 180 kg N ha-1 as NH4NO3. For com.arison, nitrate-N leaching from.a natural ecosystem.was perform.d on a nearby prairie restoration (PR). Drainage, nitrate-N leaching loss, and flow-weighted m.an nitrate-N concentrations for 8 years of data (1996-2003) are reported for the CP, NT and PR ecosystem.. Results show that 52%, 37%, 16% of cum.lative precipitation was collected as drainage, while 18%, 19%, 0.5% of the total N input was leached as nitrate-N in the CP, NT, and PR, respectively. Nearly three-quarters of the total nitrate-N was leached from.each ecosystem.during the period from.1 April to 30 June. The 8-yr, flow-weighted m.an nitrate-N concentration m.asured in leachate was 9.5, 12.2 and -1 for the CP, NT and PR treatm.nts. Annual drainage volum.s and nitrate-N leaching losses were highly variable, stressing the im.ortance of long-term.studies capable of m.asuring year-round drainage for understanding N leaching dynam.cs and evaluating effects of cropping practices on potential groundwater quality.
