This article gives an overview of my book French Philosophy and Social Theory. A Perspective for Ethics and Philosophy of Management, published by Springer 2014. As an extension of my earlier work on French philosophy, this book provides an application of important concepts from contemporary French philosophy to business ethics and the ethics of organizations. Although the book covers a wide range of philosophers and philosophical movements, there is a core and deep unity of the book. This is the demonstration of how the conceptual resources of contemporary French philosophy from the early 20th Century to the present day can be applied to give us new perspectives on business ethics and the ethics of organizations.

How should we define the ethics of information technology？ It is not a new field of study in the sense that it requires an entirely new ethical thinking. Rather, it is a field where we can try to use our traditional philosophical notions and apply them to this field of computer technology, information science, and knowledge society in order to define responsibility and accountability. Although relations of causalities may be blurred and complex because of the auto-poetic development of computers and information systems we may still have to face the fact that human beings are fundamentally responsible behind the responsibilities of the computers. So we can say that the concept of reliability and accountability is related to human responsibility in the field of Internet technology. Indeed, issues of hacking, viruses and intervention in computers also pose the problems of responsibility and violation of property and copyrights and here we face similar issues as when we talk about physical property rights although what happens is going on in cyberspace. Also we face fundamental problems about transparency, power and democracy of society as the result of the information revolution in knowledge. This shows how it becomes more and more difficult for governments and organizations to hide information and that information is becoming more and more public. We can also talk about the present development as a technology-driven information revolution in knowledge society. The information overload is a result of this revolution that is expressed in the Internet and that changes the relation of human beings to society where human beings need to access information technology and tools in order to be able to live and work in society.

中国煤炭需求弹性估算:时间波动与区际差异

需求弹性是经济学中的基础概念,也是我国煤炭市场化进程中的重要研究对象。不同于以往的宽泛研究,本文分别从国家维度、时间维度和区域维度对1995-2010年间的我国煤炭需求弹性展开系统化研究。基于面板数据模型的研究发现全国煤炭需求的价格弹性为0.59,煤炭在所考察期间总体呈现出刚性需求现象,但基于截面数据的回归结果显示各考察年份的煤炭需求弹性为负值且存在着较大的时间波动,而各区域时间序列的回归结果表明煤炭需求弹性的区际差异:煤炭主产地其值为负,消费地其值为正。分析发现以国家维度和时间维度的研究结论相互矛盾,而以区域维度的研究结果更加科学合理,具有更为可靠的理论和现实指导意义。

Transmasculine individuals,considering whether to undergo total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy,have the option to have a concomitant *** studies have evaluated hormone changes following testosterone therapy initiation,most of those patients have not undergone *** are currently limited to support health outcomes regarding the decision to retain or remove the *** performed a retrospective chart review of transmasculine patients maintained on high-dose testosterone therapy at a single endocrine clinic in Vancouver,British Columbia,*** transmasculine individuals who underwent bilateral oophorectomy and had presurgical and postsurgical serum data were *** identified 12 transmasculine subjects as controls,who were on testosterone therapy and did not undergo oophorectomy,but additionally matched to the first group by age,testosterone dosing regimen,and body mass *** was a statistically significant decrease in the estradiol levels of case subjects postoophorectomy,when compared to presurgical estradiol levels(P=0.02).There was no significant difference between baseline estradiol levels between control and case subjects;however,the difference in estradiol levels at follow-up measurements was significant(P=0.03).Total testosterone levels did not differ between control and case subjects at baseline and follow-up(both P>0.05).Our results demonstrate that oophorectomy further attenuates estradiol levels below what is achieved by high-dose exogenous testosterone *** clinical outcomes,such as impacts on bone health,were not *** clinical implications of oophorectomy versus ovarian retention on endocrinological and overall health outcomes are currently limited.

AIM To develop a scale of domains associated with the health-related quality-of-life(HRQOL) in patients with cirrhosis-related *** We initially undertook literature searches and a qualitative study in order to design a cirrhosis-associated ascites symptom(CAS) scale describing symptoms with a potential detrimental impact on health related quality of life(HRQL)(the higher the score, the worse the symptoms). Discriminatory validity was assessed in a validation cohort including cirrhotic patients with(1) tense/severe;(2) moderate/mild; or(3) no ascites(controls). Patients also completed chronic liver disease questionnaire(CLDQ) and the Euro QoL 5-Dimensions 5-Level(EQ-5D-5L) questionnaire evaluating HRQL. The relation between scale scores was analysed using Spearman correlations. RESULTS The final CAS scale included 14 items. The equivalent reliability was high(Chronbach's alpha 0.88). The validation cohort included 103 patients(72% men, mean age 62.4 years). The mean scores for each question in the CAS scale were higher for patients with severe/tense ascites than for mild/moderate ascites and controls. Compared with controls(mean = 9.9 points), the total CAS scale score was higher for severe/tense ascites(mean = 23.8 points) as well as moderate/mild ascites(mean = 18.6 points)(P < 0.001 both groups). We found a strong correlation between the total CAS and CLDQ score(rho = 0.82, P < 0.001) and a moderate correlation between the CAS and the EQ-5D-5L score(0.67, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION The CAS is a valid tool, which reflects HRQOL in patients with ascites.

Restoration of a Temperate Reef:Effects on the Fish Community

The extraction of large boulders from coastal reefs for construction of harbours and coastal protection has led to habitat degradation for local fish populations through the destruction of cavernous reefs and changes in macroalgal cover resulting from a loss of substrate. The temperate reef at L?s? Trindel in Kattegat, Denmark, has now been re-established with the aim of restoring the reef’s historical structure and function. The effects of the restoration on the local fish community are reported here. Fishing surveys using gillnets and fyke nets were conducted before the restoration (2007) and four years after the restoration of the reef (2012). Species of the family Labridae, which have a high affinity for rocky reefs, dominated both before and after the restoration. Commercially important species such as cod Gadus morhua, and saithe Pollachius virens, occurred infrequently in the catches in 2007 but were significantly more abundant in the catches in 2012. Cods were especially attracted to the shallow part of the reef that was restored by adding stones. For some species, such as ballan wrasse Labrus bergylta, and cod, the proportion of larger individuals increased after the restoration. The findings highlight the importance of reef habitats for fish communities and the need for their protection.
