Cardiovascular complications following medical termination of pregnancy: An updated review

BACKGROUND Around 1 million cases of medical termination of pregnancy(MTP)take place yearly in the United States of America with around 2 percent of this population developing *** cardiovascular(CVD)complications occurring post MTP or after stillbirth is not very well *** To help the reader better understand,prepare,and manage these complications by reviewing various cardiac comorbidities seen after *** We performed a literature search in PubMed,Medline,RCA,and google scholar,using the search terms“abortions”or“medical/legal termination of pregnancy”and“cardiac complications”or“cardiovascular complications”.RESULTS The most common complications described in the literature following MTP were infective endocarditis(IE)(n=16),takotsubo cardiomyopathy(TTC)(n=7),arrhythmias(n=5),and sudden coronary artery dissection(SCAD)(n=4).The most common valve involved in IE was the tricuspid valve in 69%(n=10).The most observed causative organism was group B Streptococcus in 81%(n=12).The most common type of TTC was apical type in 57%(n=4).Out of five patients de veloping arrhythmia,bradycardia was the most common and was seen in 60%(3/5)of the *** four cases of SCAD-P type presented as acute coronary syndrome 10-14 d post termination of pregnancy with predominant involvement of the right coronary *** was only reported following IE in 6.25%.Clinical recovery was reported consistently after optimal medical management following all these *** In conclusion,the occurrence of CVD complications following pregnancy termination is infrequently documented in the existing *** this review,the most common CVD complication following MTP was noted to be IE and TTC.

Patients with heart failure(HF)may be at a higher risk of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)infection and may have a worse outcome due to their comorbid conditions and advanced *** this narrative review,we aim to study the interaction between COVID-19 and HF from a critical care *** performed a systematic search for studies that reported HF and critical carerelated outcomes in COVID-19 patients in the PubMed and Medline *** a total of 1050 papers,we identified 26 that satisfied the eligibility criteria for our *** such as patient demographics,HF,intensive care unit(ICU)admission,management,and outcome were extracted from these studies and *** reported outcomes in heart-transplant patients with COVID-19 *** hospitalized patients with COVID-19,the prevalence of HF varied between 4%and 21%.The requirement for ICU admission was between 8%and 33%.HF patients with COVID-19 had an overall mortality rate between 20%and 40%.We identified that HF is an independent predictor of mortality in hospitalized COVID-19 patients,and patients with HF were more likely to require ventilation,ICU admission and develop *** with HF with reduced ejection fraction did worse than those with HF with midrange ejection fraction,and HF with preserved ejection ***-19 patients with HF should be identified early and managed aggressively in an attempt to improve outcomes in this cohort of patients.

Case study and design of steel set support for aged belt entry rehabilitation

In order to access remote reserve areas, some *** mines have to maintain aged underground entries for a great ***, high humidity, warm temperature, and time dependent deterioration can cause progressive roof deterioration and unexpected roof falls, and pose a great challenge to ground control *** an active belt structure in place and limited space, re-bolting becomes very costly, less effective,and, sometimes, impractical and *** gain long-term entry stability and serviceability, operators typically rehabilitate the aged belt entries by installing standing steel set *** the last several years,Keystone Mining Services, LLC,(KMS) has assisted many coal mines with their belt entry rehabilitation projects, evaluated the ground condition of various aged belt entries, and designed different standing steel set support *** paper presents a case study of a large-scale roof fall that occurred at an aged belt entry in a mine located in an eastern coalfield, analyzes root causes of excessive deformation of square sets that were installed in an adjacent entry, evaluates the adequacy of an existing rehabilitation square set, and develops remedial recommendations for future rehabilitation *** on the case study, the paper outlines design guidelines for rehabilitation steel sets that include field evaluation, engineering considerations, design assumptions, steel structural analysis, and field installation quality control.

In a significant translational study, Magnon et aL investigated the role that the auto-nomic nervous system plays in the develop-ment and spread of prostate cancer in both mice and human modds. The study shows different roles for both branches of the auto-nomic nervous system, with the sympathetic system promoting early stages of tumorigen-esis, and the parasympathetic system promot-ing cancer dlssemination. This information could lead to important new foundations for treatment, therapies and management of pro-state cancer.

Risk factors for hamstring injuries in Australian male professional cricket players

Background:Injuries to the hamstring are relatively common in professional cricketers(as they are in many team sports) and have increased in incidence in the "T20 era"(introduction of 20-over matches) of cricket since ***:This study analyzed incidence of hamstring injury in the various elite male match types over a 20-year period(1995–1996 to 2014–2015seasons).Risk factors for hamstring strain were assessed using a multivariate logistic regression analysis ***:There were 276 match time-loss hamstring injuries recorded over a 20-year period at the Australian state or national player level,of which170 occurred in one of 40,145 player match *** overall rate of match onset rate was 22.5 hamstring injuries per 1000 team *** bowling onset injuries were the highest subcategory at a rate of 10.9 injuries per 1000 team days,although batting onset injuries were particularly common in 50-over(one day) international *** risk factors in logistic regression analysis,in addition to hamstring injury history,were being a fast bowler relative risk(RR) 2.5(95% confidence interval(CI):1.3–4.5) and playing a match in Australia RR 2.3(95%CI:1.3–3.9).Conclusion:Fast bowlers suffer more hamstring injuries than other playing roles in cricket,particularly in First Class(multi-day) *** are more likely to get injured in 50-over(one day) *** in Australia(compared to overseas venues) leads to increased risk of hamstring injury.
