Arterial stiffness expressed as brachial–ankle pulse wave velocity and gait assessment independent of lower extremity strength:a cross-sectional study in the older men population

Post-transcriptional regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor: Implications for tumor angiogenesis

Vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） is a potent secreted mitogen critical for physiologic and tumor angiogenesis. Regulation of VEGF occurs at several levels, including transcription, mRNA stabilization, translation, and differential cellular localization of various isoforms. Recent advances in our understanding of post-transcriptional regulation of VEGF include identification of the stabilizing mRNA binding protein, HuR, and the discovery of internal ribosomal entry sites in the 5＇UTR of the VEGF mRNA. Monoclonal anti-VEGF antibody was recently approved for use in humans, but suffers from the need for high systemic doses. RNA interference （RNAi） technology is being used in vitro and in animal models with promising results. Here, we review the literature on post-transcriptional regulation of VEGF and describe recent progress in targeting these mechanisms for therapeutic benefit.

The demand for multifunctional neural interfaces has grown due to the need to provide a better understanding of biological mechanisms related to neurological diseases and neural *** intracerebral drug injection using microfluidic neural interfaces is an effective way to deliver drugs to the brain,and it expands the utility of drugs by bypassing the blood-brain barrier(BBB).In addition,uses of implantable neural interfacing devices have been challenging due to inevitable acute and chronic tissue responses around the electrodes,pointing to a critical issue still to be *** neural interfaces comprised of a collection of microneedles in an array have been used for various applications,it has been challenging to integrate microfluidic channels with them due to their characteristic three-dimensional structures,which differ from two-dimensionally fabricated shank-type neural *** we present a method to provide such three-dimensional needle-type arrays with chemical delivery *** fabricated a microfluidic interconnection cable(pFIC)and integrated it with a flexible penetrating microelectrode array(FPMA)that has a 3-dimensional structure comprised of silicon microneedle electrodes supported by a flexible array *** successfully demonstrated chemical delivery through the developed device by recording neural signals acutely from in vivo brains before and after KCl *** suggests the potential of the developed microfluidic neural interface to contribute to neuroscience research by providing simultaneous signal recording and chemical delivery capabilities.

The relation between the structure of the silver network electrodes and the properties of Cu(In,Ga)Se_(2)(CIGS)solar cells is systemically *** Ag network electrode is deposited onto an Al:ZnO(AZO)thin film,employing a self-forming cracked *** control over the cracked template's structure is achieved through careful adjustment of temperature and *** Ag network electrodes with different coverage areas and network densities are systemically applied to the CIGS solar *** is revealed that predominant fill factor(FF)is influenced by the figure of merit of transparent conducting electrodes,rather than sheet resistance,particularly when the coverage area falls within the range of 1.3–5%.Furthermore,a higher network density corresponds to an enhanced FF when the coverage areas of the Ag networks are *** utilizing a thinner AZO film,CIGS solar cells with a surface area of 1.0609 cm^(2)exhibit a notable performance improvement,with efficiency increasing from 10.48%to 11.63%.This enhancement is primarily attributed to the increase in FF from 45%to 65%.These findings underscore the considerable potential for reducing the thickness of the transparent conductive oxide(TCO)in CIGS modules with implications for practical applications in photovoltaic technology.

Approximately 10%–18%of patients with colon cancer present with obstruction at the initial *** active screening efforts,the incidence of obstructive colon cancer remains ***,emergency surgery has been indicated to treat patients with obstructive colon ***,compared to patients undergoing elective surgery,the morbidity and mortality rates of patients requiring emergency surgery for obstructive colon cancer are *** the advancement of colonoscopic techniques and equipment,a self-expandable metal stent(SEMS)was introduced to relieve obstructive symptoms,allowing the patient’s general condition to be restored and for them undergo elective *** the use of SEMS placement is growing,controversies about its application in potentially curable diseases have been *** this review,the short-and longterm outcomes of different treatment strategies,particularly emergency surgery vs SEMS placement followed by elective surgery in resectable,locally advanced obstructive colon cancer,are described based on the location of the obstructive cancer *** regarding each treatment strategy are *** overcome current obstacles,a potential diagnostic method using circulating tumor DNA and further research directions incorporating neoadjuvant chemotherapy are introduced.
