The cingulum,connecting the orbitofrontal cortex to the medial temporal lobe,involves in diverse cognition functions including attention,memory,and *** investigate the relationship between the cingulum injury and cognitive impairment in patients with chronic mild traumatic brain injury,we evaluated the integrity between the anterior cingulum and the basal forebrain using diffusion tensor tractography in 73 patients with chronic mild traumatic brain injury(39 males,34 females,age 43.29±11.42 years)and 40 healthy controls(22 males,18 females,age 40.11±16.81 years).The patients were divided into three subgroups based on the integrity between the anterior cingulum and the basal forebrain on diffusion tensor tractography:subgroup A(n=19 patients)– both sides of the anterior cingulum were intact;subgroup B(n=36 patients)– either side of the anterior cingulum was intact;and subgroup C(18 patients)– both sides of the anterior cingulum were *** were significant differences in total Memory Assessment Scale score between subgroups A and B and between subgroups A and *** were no significant differences in diffusion tensor tractography parameters(fractional anisotropy,apparent diffusion coefficient,and fiber volume)between patients and *** findings suggest that the integrity between the anterior cingulum and the basal forebrain,but not diffusion tensor tractography parameter,can be used to predict the cognitive function of patients with chronic mild traumatic brain *** study was approved by Yeungnam University hospital Institutional Review Board(approval ***-2014-01-425-010)on August 16,2017.

A laboratory sequential anaerobic aerobic bioreactor system, which consisted of an anaerobic fixed film reactor and two aerobic chemostats, was set up to degrade tetrachloroethylene (PCE) without accumulating highly toxic degradation intermediates. A soil enrichment culture, which could reductively dechlorinate 900 μM (ca. 150 mg/L) of PCE stoichiometrically into cis 1,2 dichloroethylene ( cis DCE), was attached to ceramic media in the anaerobic fixed film reactor. A phenol degrading strain, Alcaligenes sp. R5, which can efficiently degrade cis DCE by co metabolic oxidation, was used as inoculum for the aerobic chemostats consisted of a transformation reactor and a growth reactor. The anaerobic fixed film bioreactor showed more than 99 % of PCE transformation into cis DCE in the range of influent PCE concentration from 5 μM to 35 μM at hydraulic retention time of 48h. On the other hand, efficient degradation of the resultant cis DCE by strain R5 in the following aerobic system could not be achieved due to oxygen limitation. however, 54% of the maximum cis DCE degradation was obtained when 10 μmol of hydrogen peroxide (H 2O 2) was supplemented to the transformation reactor as an additional oxygen source. Further studies are needed to achieve more efficient co metabolic degradation of cis DCE in the aerobic reactor.

To provide basic data for the reasonable mixing design of the alkali-activated (AA) foamed concrete as a thermal insulation material for a floor heating system, 9 concrete mixes with a targeted dry density less than 400 kg/m3 were tested. Ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) as a source material was activated by the following two types of alkali activators: 10% Ca(OH)2 and 4% Mg(NO3)2, and 2.5% Ca(OH)2 and 6.5% Na2SiO3. The main test parameters were water-to-binder (W/B) ratio and the substitution level (RFA) of fly ash (FA) for GGBS. Test results revealed that the dry density of AA GGBS foamed concrete was independent of the W/B ratio an RFA, whereas the compressive strength increased with the decrease in W/B ratio and with the increase in RFA up to 15%, beyond which it decreased. With the increase in the W/B ratio, the amount of macro capillaries and artificial air pores increased, which resulted in the decrease of compressive strength. The magnitude of the environmental loads of the AA GGBS foamed concrete is independent of the W/B ratio and RFA. The largest reduction percentage was found in the photochemical oxidation potential, being more than 99%. The reduction percentage was 87% - 93% for the global warming potential, 81% - 84% for abiotic depletion, 79% - 84% for acidification potential, 77% - 85% for eutrophication potential, and 73% - 83% for human toxicity potential. Ultimately, this study proved that the developed AA GGBS foamed concrete has a considerable promise as a sustainable construction material for nonstructural element.

Inadequate interfacial contact between lithium and solid-state electrolytes(SSEs)leads to elevated impedance and the growth of lithium dendrites,presenting significant obstacles to the practical viability of solid-state batteries(SSBs).To ameliorate interfacial contact,optimizing the surface treatment of SSEs has been widely ***,the formation of LiCl through acid treatment,an equally crucial factor impacting SSB performance,has received limited attention,leaving its underlying mechanism *** study aims to shed light on SSE characteristics following LiCl formation and the removal of Li_(2)CO_(3) through acid *** seek to establish quantifiable links between SSE surface structure and SSB performance,focusing on interfacial resistance,current distribution,critical current density(CCD),and lithium *** formation of LiCl,occurring as Li_(2)CO_(3) is removed through acid treatment,effectively mitigates lithium dendrite formation on SSE *** action inhibits electron injection and reduces the diffusion rate of Li ***,acid treatment transforms the SSE surface into a lithiophilic state by eliminating surface Li_(2)CO_(3).Consequently,the interfacial resistance between lithium and SSEs substantially decreases from 487.67 to 35.99Ωcm^(2) at 25°*** leads to a notably high CCD of 1.3 mA cm^(-2) and a significantly extended cycle life of 1,000 ***,in full SSBs incorporating LiCoO_(2)cathodes and acid-treated garnet SSEs,we observe exceptional cyclability and rate *** findings highlight that acid treatment not only establishes a fundamental relationship between SSE surfaces and battery performance but also offers an effective strategy for addressing interfacial challenges in SSBs.

Three-dimensional （3D） printing is a novel process used to manufacture bone tissue engineered scaffolds. This process allows for easy control of the architecture at the micro structure. however, the scaffold properties are typically limited in terms of cellular activity at the scaffold surface due to the printed materials properties. In this study, we developed a polycaprolactone （PCL） blended with polyethylene glycol （PEG） 3D printed scaffold using a rapid prototyping system. The manufactured scaffolds were then washed out to form small pores on the surface in order to improve the scaffolds hydrophilicity. We analyzed the resultant material by using Scanning Electron Microscopy （SEM）, water absorption, water contact angle, in vitro WST-1, and the Bradford assay. Additionally, cells incubated on the fabricated scaffolds were visualized by Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy （CLSM）. The developed scaffolds exhibited small pores on the strand surface which served to increase hydrophilicity as well as improve cellular proliferation and increase total protein content. Our findings suggest that the presence of small pores on the scaffolds can be used as an effective tool for improving implant cellular interaction. This research indicates that these modified scaffolds can be considered useful for bone tissue engineering applications to improve human health.

BACKGROUND: The frequency of isolated biliary candidiasis is increasing in cancer patients. The clinical signiifcance of isolated biliary candidiasis remains unclear. We analyzed the risk factors of biliary candidiasis and outcomes of the patients with unresectable cholangiocarcinoma after percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD). METhoDS: Among 430 patients who underwent PTBD between January 2012 and March 2015, 121 patients had unresectable cholangiocarcinoma. Bile and blood samples were collected for consecutive fungal culture. RESULTS: The study cohort included 49 women and 72 men with a median age of 71 years. Multivariate analysis showed that cancer progression (P=0.013), concurrent presence of another microorganism (P=0.010), and previous long-term (>7 days) antibiotic use (P=0.011) were potential risk factors of biliary candidiasis. Chemotherapy was not associated with overall biliary candidiasis (P=0.196), but was signiifcantly related to repeated biliary candidiasis (P=0.011). Patients with isolated biliary candidiasis showed remarkably reduced survival compared with those without (median overall sur-vival (OS): 32 vs 62 days,P=0.011)Subgroup analysis was also performed. Patients with repeated candidiasis had markedly decreased survival compared with those with transient candi-diasis (median OS: 30 vs 49 days,P=0.046). Biliary candidiasis was identiifed as a poor prognostic factor by univariate and multivariate analyses (P=0.033). Four cases of repeated can-didiasis (4/19, 21%) showedCandida species in consecutive blood culture until the end of the study, but others showed no candidemia. CONCLUSIONS: Isolated biliary candidiasis may be associ-ated with poor prognosis in patients with unresectable chol-angiocarcinoma. Especially, repeated biliary candidiasis may have the possibility of progression to candidemia. We suggest that biliary dilatation treatment or antifungal agents might be helpful for patients with biliary candidiasis.
