Long cycle-life aqueous Zn battery enabled by facile carbon nanotube coating on Cu current collector

As an alternative to Li-ion batteries,aqueous Zn batteries have gained attention due to the abundance of Zn metal,low reduction potential(-0.76 V *** hydrogen electrode),and high theoretical capacity(820 mAh g^(-1))of multivalent Zn2+***,the growth of Zn dendrites and the formation of irreversible surface reaction byproducts pose challenges for ensuring a long battery lifespan and ***,the Cu foil coated with a single-walled carbon nanotube(SWCNT)layer using a facile doctor blade casting method is *** SWCNT-coated Cu foil demonstrates a significantly longer battery lifespan compared to the bare Cu in the half-cell *** operando optical microscopy imaging,we are able to provide intuitive evidence that Zn deposition occurs between the carbon nanotube(CNT)coating and Cu substrate,in agreement with the computational ***,with various imaging techniques,the flat morphology and homogeneous distribution of Zn beneath the SWCNT layer are *** addition,the full-cell using CNT-coated Cu exhibits a long cycle life compared to the control group,thereby demonstrating improved electrochemical performance with limited Zn for the cycling process.

A Simple Method for Grain Refinement of Pure Aluminium

In order to produce the fully equiaxed and fine grained pure Al, a simple casting process that used cooling slope was examined and compared with conventional casting process under same casting conditions. By using cooling slope, grains over the whole section of castings were suddenly refined and ability of grain refinement kept up at very high mold temperature up to 550癈 in examined casting conditions.

The use of chemotherapeutic regimens for the treatment of pancreatic cancer is still limited because pancreatic cancer is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage as a refractory disease in which symptoms are difficult to recognize in the early ***,at advanced stages,there are important challenges to achieve clinical benefit and symptom resolution,even with the use of an expanded spectrum of anticancer ***,a point of reduced susceptibility to conventional chemotherapies by breast cancer susceptibility gene(BRCA)mutations led to a new perspective for overcoming the resistance of pancreatic cancer within the framework of increased genome ***(ADP-Ribose)polymerase(PARP)-1 is an enzyme that can regulate intrinsic functions,such as response to DNA ***,in an environment where germline mutations in BRCAs(BRCAness)inhibit homologous recombination in DNA damage,resulting in a lack of DNA damage response,a key role of PARP-1 for the adaptation of the genome instability could be further ***,we summarized the key functional role of PARP-1 in genomic instability of pancreatic cancer with the BRCAness phenotype and listed clinical applications and outcomes of PARP-1 inhibitors to highlight the importance of targeting PARP-1 activity.

Biodegradable hydrogels are promising biomaterials for use in controlled-release systems for skin tissue regeneration. Controlled delivery systems constitute an important aspect of tissue engineering because they can modulate various physiological responses, including early immune response, tissue remodeling, and cell proliferation and maturation in the wound-healing process. Hydrogels composed of various biomaterials have been developed to overcome the limitations of conventional drug- or protein-delivery systems, such as limited targeting ability, low stability, and the induction of drug resistance. Hydrogels based on keratin, a natural polymer extracted from human hair, can provide adequate cell support and control homeostasis. Consequently, they can be applied for skin tissue engineering. In this study, we prepared degradable, tunable, and biocompatible hydrogels for controllable protein delivery. We synthesized keratin-fibrinogen (KER-FBG) by the chemical coupling reaction and prepared hydrogels through polymerization with thrombin. The structures and morphologies of the KER-FBG hydrogels were confirmed. Furthermore, the mechanical properties, swelling ratio, degradation, release behavior, and biocompatibility were investigated. The KER-FBG hydrogels presented promising biological performance, indicating that the material is suitable as a controlled protein delivery carrier.

Piezoelectrically Actuated Biomimetic Self-Contained Quadruped Bounding Robot

BYPASS1:how a Tiny Mutant Tells a Big Story about Root-to-shoot Signaling

Plants coordinate their development using long-distance signaling. The vascular system provides a route for long-distance movement, and specifically the xylem for root-to-shoot signaling. Root-to-shoot signals play roles communicating soil conditions, and these signals are important for agricultural water conservation. Using genetic approaches, the Arabidopsis bypass1 （bpsl） mutant, which over-produces a root-derived signal, was identified. Although bpsl mutants have both root and shoot defects, the shoot can develop normally if the roots are removed, and the mutant root is sufficient to induce arrest of the wild-type shoot. BYPASS1 encodes a protein with no functionally characterized domains, and BPSl-like genes are found in plant genomes, but not the genomes of animals. Analyses of hormone pathways indicate that the mobile compound that arises in bpsl roots requires carotenoid biosynthesis, but it is neither abscisic acid nor strigolactone. The current model suggests that BPS1 is required to prevent the synthesis of a novel substance that moves from the root to the shoot, where it modifies shoot growth by interfering with auxin signaling.

In post-menopausal women,intra-mammary estrogen,which is converted from extra-ovarian estrone(E1),promotes the growth of breast *** the aromatase inhibitor letrozole does not suppress 17β-estradiol(E2)production from E1,high intra-mammary E1 concentrations impair letrozole's therapeutic *** receptor membrane component 1(Pgrmc1)is a non-classical progesterone receptor associated with breast cancer *** the present study,we introduced a Pgrmc1 heterozygous knockout(hetero KO)murine model exhibiting low Pgrmc1 expression,and observed estrogen levels and steroidogenic gene ***ïve Pgrmc1 hetero KO mice exhibited low estrogen(E2 and E1)levels and low progesterone receptor(PR)expression,compared to wild-type *** contrast,Pgrmc1 hetero KO mice that have been ovariectomized(OVX),including letrozole-treated OVX mice(OVX-letrozole),exhibited high estrogen levels and PR *** extra-ovarian estrogen production in Pgrmc1 hetero KO mice was observed with the induction of steroid sulfatase(STS).In MCF-7 cell,letrozole suppressed PR expression,but PGRMC1 knockdown increased PR and STS *** presented results highlight the important role of Pgrmc1 in modulating estrogen production when ovary-derived estrogen is limited,thereby suggesting a potential therapeutic approach for letrozole resistance.

Management of sub-centimeter recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma after curative treatment:Current status and future

Hepatocellular carcinomas(HCCs) frequently recur despite initial successful surgical resection or local ablation therapy. Diagnostic methods for small HCCs have improved with the introduction of gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI). Currently, sub-centimeter recurrent nodules showing typical hallmark imaging findings of HCC are frequently detected in patients with a treatment history for HCC. With five typical magnetic resonance findings, including arterial enhancement, washout on portal or transitional phase, high signal intensity on both T2-weighted image and DWI, and low signal intensity on hepatobiliary phase, sub-centimeter recurrent HCC can be diagnosed with high accuracy. Although more information is needed to determine the treatment of choice, local ablation therapy under fusion imaging and/or contrast-enhanced ultrasound guidance or cone-beam computed tomography-guided chemoembolization seem to be promising as they are effective and safe for the management of sub-centimeter recurrent HCCs.
