Carbonaceous materials with large interlayer spacing and disordered structure are considered suitable as electrodes in sodium-ion batteries so as to overcome the problem encountered in conventional *** this study,carbon quantum dots(CQDs)decorated with SnO_(2)and NaVO_(3)are used as electrodes in the fabrication of flexible Na-ion *** are prepared from dead leaves of the Samanea saman tree through alkaline-peroxide treatment and hydrothermal ***-prepared CQDs exhibit a quantum yield of 21.03%at an excitation wavelength of 360 *** separators such as indium-doped tin oxide/polyoxyethylene tridecyl ether(ITO/PTE),rice paper(RP),silicone with three big holes(SIL BH),silicone with many small holes(SIL SH)and cellulose paper(CP)have been tried in flexible Na-ion *** SH achieved higher specific capacitance(881 F g-1)than other separators due to the function of many small holes on the surface of the *** SIL SH separator delivered higher discharge capacities of 141 and 114 mC g-1 at 1.5 and 2.5 V than SIL *** RP separator delivered specific discharge capacities of 1087 and 347 mC g-1 in the 1st and 50th cycles,respectively,at 1 *** RP separator delivered a high initial specific discharge capacity of 698 mC g-1 at 2 V and maintained a good discharge capacity of 222 mC g-1 in the 50th *** compared to RP,SIL SH delivered high specific discharge capacity of 4246 in 1st cycle at 2 V but maintained a capacity of 71 mC g-1 in the 50th *** study reveals the scope of developing flexible Na-ion batteries with high capacity and cyclability using carbonaceous materials derived from the leaves of the *** tree.

Investigation of the factors affecting the consistency of short-period traffic counts

The main intent of this study is to investigate the accuracy of short-duration traffic counts conducted during winter months. The investigation is based on 11-year sample data collected using permanent traffic counters at various locations in Alberta, Canada. Four types of road sites： commuter, regional commuter, rural long-distance, and recreational sites are studied. The sample data consti- tute six different durations of counts （12-, 24-, 48-, 72-, 96-h, and 1 week） taken during summer and winter months. The coefficient of variation （CV） is used as the relative measure of deviation for counts of different dura- tions to measure the accuracy of short-period traffic counts. The study results indicate that 48-h count seems to be the most cost-effective counting interval during both summer and winter months. It is also found that the lowest values of CV result for counts taken at commuter sites, and the highest values are observed for recreational sites. Frequent changes in temperature and other weather events cause significant variation in traffic volume, which results in an increase in CV values for counts taken during winter months. The application of an adjustment factor to remove the effect of cold and snow from short-period counts is also included in this study. Introduced adjustment factors can reduce the values of CV for all counts taken during winter months. The findings of this study can lead highway agencies to improve the cost-effectiveness of their short- period traffic counting programs.

Composition and Distributions of Nitrogen and Phosphorus and Assessment of Eutrophication Status in the Maowei Sea

Maowei Sea(MWS) is the largest oyster maricuture bay in Southwest China. Surface water from 12 sampling sites were collected during the dry season to study the composition and distribution of different forms of nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P) beginning from the inner bay to the bay mouth in the MWS. An improved multi-parameter eutrophication index was developed and applied for the evaluation of the water quality in the MWS. Dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN), dissolved organic nitrogen(DON), and particulate nitrogen(PN) averagely accounted for 11.28%, 65.32%, and 23.39% of total N(TN) pool, dissolved inorganic phosphorus(DIP), dissolved organic phosphorus(DOP), and particulate phosphorus(PP) averagely accounted for 54.58%, 30.31%, and 15.12% of total P(TP) pool, respectively. DON and DIP were respectively the dominant forms of N and P in surface water of the MWS, during the study period. Concentration trends of DIN, DIP, DOP, PN, dissolved silicate(DSi), total organic carbon(TOC), chemical oxygen demand(COD) decreased from the inner bay to the bay mouth, suggesting that the MWS may be largely influenced by land-based inputs. Based on nutrient contents and stoichiometry, it likely that phytoplankton growth in the MWS is strongly limited by DIP during the dry season. Results from the improved eutrophication index revealed that the water quality in the MWS is in a state of moderate to poor eutrophication(average EI = 0.953). The eutrophication state decreased from the inner bay to the bay mouth. Nitrate(NO3-N), DON, DIP, DOP, and DSi showed significant positive correlations with eutrophication index(r2 = 0.52 – 0.78, P < 0.05), implying that these nutrients are among the significant factors, which could be used in evaluating the eutrophication status of the MWS.

Assessment of genetic variation in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) inbred lines using SSR molecular markers

A study was conducted to determine the genetic diversity of 39 determinate and indeterminate tomato inbred lines collected from China, Japan, S. Korea, and USA. Using 35 SSR polymorphic markers, a total of 150 alleles were found with moderate levels of diversity, and a high number of unique alleles existing in these tomato lines. The mean number of alleles per locus was 4.3 and the average polymorphism information content （PIC） was 0.31. Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean （UPGMA） clustering at genetic similarity value of 0.85 grouped the inbred lines into four groups, where one USA cultivar formed a separate and more distant cluster. The most similar inbred lines are from USA, both with determinate type, whereas the most different lines are from USA （Us-16） and Japan （Ja-2） with determinate and indeterminate growth habit, respectively. Clustering was consistent with the known information regarding geographical location and growth habit. The genetic distance information reported in this study might be used by breeders when planning future crosses among these inbred lines.

Sleep deprivation and associated factors among students of the Institute of Health in Jimma University, Southwest Ethiopia

Objective:Despite getting sufficient sleep being one of the most important things that we can do to keep our body and mind healthy,sleep deprivation has become a major public health *** study aimed to determine the prevalence of sleep deprivation and its associated factors among students of the Institute of Health in Jimma ***:An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from April 10 to April 24 in *** were collected from 365 randomly selected participants and analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS;version 23).Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors associated with sleep *** level of significance was declared at a P-value of<***:A total of 365 participants participated,with a response rate of 97.6%.The study findings showed that 60.8%of students had sleep deprivation and 68.2%had sleep *** problems(adjusted odds ratio[AOR]=1.91[95%confidence interval{CI}=1.01–3.58]),alcohol consumption[AOR=0.42(95%CI=0.2–0.89)],cigarette smoking[AOR=0.31(95%CI=0.09–0.93)],khat chewing[AOR=0.47(95%CI=0.12–0.82)],use of an electronic device before bedtime[AOR=5.26(95%CI=1.78–15.52)],and cumulative grade point average(CGPA)[AOR=0.48(95%CI=0.27–0.83)]were significantly associated with sleep ***:Sleep deprivation was common in the study *** is mainly due to health problems,substance utilization,long-time use of an electronic device,and low ***,a strategy and system should be established to limit substance use,enhance proper use of electronic devices,and create awareness on the impact of nonoptimal sleep.

Adoption of Herbicides by Arable Crop Farmers in Edo State, Nigeria

This study examined the adoption of herbicides by arable farmers in Edo State. It assessed the proportion of arable farmers using herbicides, level of use and factors affecting adoption of herbicides. Simple random sampling was used to compose a sample size of 556 respondents. Various descriptive and inferential statistics were employed in data analyses. The results showed that onehalf of the respondents used herbicides(27.9% regularly using herbicides), and most of the adopters used non-selective herbicide. Avalanche of factors, including education attainment, farm size and farming experience also affected the adoption of herbicides.

Stability of Accretion Discs around Magnetized Stars

We study the stability of accretion disc around magnetised stars. Starting from the equations of magnetohydrodynamics we derive equations for linearized perturbation of geometrically thin, optically thick axisymmetric accretion disc with an internal dynamo around magnetized stars. The structure and evolution of such discs are governed by an evolution equation for matter surface density ∑(R,T). Using the time-dependent equations for an accretion disc we do a linear stability analysis of our steady disc solutions in the presence of the magnetic field generated due to an internal dynamo.

Determination of Moisture Sorption Isotherm Characteristics of Dehydrated Sorghum Flour （＂Ogi＂）

Dehydrated sorghum flour （＂ogi＂） is useful as additional ingredient in certain food and pharmaceutical formulation, this could be obtained by soaking sorghum in water for 3 to 4 days, wet milling the soaked material, and fermentation for another 3 to 4 days. Typically, the fermented product is boiled into a pap or cooked into a stiff porridge. However, the fermented product can not be easily handled or stored and does not have a long shelf life （typically less than a week）. Dehydrating the fermented product into flour is one of the ways that is being employed to overcome these problems. Equilibrium moisture content （EMC） of dehydrated sorghum flour （aka ＂ogi＂） was therefore determined at two temperatures of 25℃ and 40℃ and four salt solutions. Zinc chloride （ZnCl2）, potassium acetate （KC2H3O2）, calcium chloride （CaCl2） and sodium chloride （NaCl） salts were prepared to correspond to equilibrium relative humidities of 10.0% to 75.4%. The moisture sorption characteristics of the sorghum product showed the characteristics S-shaped sorption isotherm curve that is typically obtained for agricultural products. The equilibrium data and the monomolccular layer moisture content values were estimated using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller （BET） equation. The moisture content range for optimum storage of the dehydrated sorghum flour lies between 2.84% to 3.69% at 25℃ and 6.84% and 7.67% at 40℃. The information obtained from this study will help in the design and selection of storage and packaging systems for dehydrated sorghum flour.

Compiled information on parkland agroforestry tree species in relation to diversity, tree management options and the challenges of the system is important for production and productivity, and biodiversity conservation through availing the required information which in turn has an implication to the sustainability of the system and climate change mitigation. So, the aim of this review paper is to compile information on parkland agroforestry practices of Ethiopia, particularly: on tree species diversity, their roles, management options available and challenges of the practice. Parkland agroforestry which is a system practiced by many local populations comprises the large part of agricultural landscapes in Ethiopia and is very important in different aspects such as;for food security, microclimate amelioration, economic benefits, environmental protection, household energy, household utensils, cultural values, traditional medicines, and fodder. There are many indigenous multipurpose tree species scattered on farmlands in Ethiopia, and the common one includes: Millettia ferruginea, Cordia africana, Ficus vasta, Ficus sur, Croton macrostachyus and Faidherbia albida. However, nowadays these trees are facing challenges like: expansion of exotic trees in the expense of the native ones, expansion of cash crops through removal of the parkland trees from the farm area, climate change, land shortage and tenure system which require high emphasis for the production and productivity as well as sustainability of the system especially, in this era of climate change;hence this system is one of climate change mitigation options.

Liquid Jet Blasting Using Ultra-High Frequency Supersonic Pulsed Air Jet

This paper reports an experimental study on a liquid injector assembly integrated with an ultra-high frequency pulsed air jet that operates at 21 kHz. The active air-blasting assembly steadily injects a liquid through four micro-nozzles of 0.4 mm diameters each, positioned around a 1 mm nozzle through which the pulsed actuation jet flows out at supersonic velocity. High-frequency compressible air vortexes and shock waves generated by the injector atomize the liquid stream into finer droplets and distribute them to a larger area to improve mixing with the ambiance. The paper presents the design details and preliminary studies on the flow field characteristics of this novel injection scheme, which is a potential candidate for high-speed flow mixing and control applications.
