Epidemiological features of seasonal influenza transmission among 11 climate zones in Chinese mainland

Background Previous studies provided some evidence of meteorological factors influence seasonal influenza transmission patterns varying across regions and latitudes. However, research on seasonal influenza activities based on climate zones are still in lack. This study aims to utilize the ecological-based Koppen Geiger climate zones classification system to compare the spatial and temporal epidemiological characteristics of seasonal influenza in Chinese mainland and assess the feasibility of developing an early warning *** Weekly influenza cases number from 2014 to 2019 at the county and city level were sourced from China National Notifiable Infectious Disease Report Information System. Epidemic temporal indices, time series seasonality decomposition, spatial modelling theories including Moran’s/ and local indicators of spatial association were applied to identify the spatial and temporal patterns of influenza *** All climate zones had peaks in Winter-Spring season. Arid, desert, cold (BWk) showed up the first peak. Only Tropical, savannah (Aw) and Temperate, dry winter with hot summer (Cwa) zones had unique summer peak. Temperate, no dry season and hot summer (Cfa) zone had highest average incidence rate (IR) at 1.047/100,000. The Global Moran’s/ showed that average IR had significant clustered trend (z = 53.69,P < 0.001), with local Moran’s/ identified high-high cluster in Cfa and Cwa. IR differed among three age groups between climate zones (0-14 years old:F = 26.80,P < 0.001;15-64 years old:F = 25.04,P < 0.001;Above 65 years old:F = 5.27,P < 0.001). Age group 0-14 years had highest average IR in Cwa and Cfa (IR= 6.23 and 6.21) with unique dual peaks in winter and spring season showed by seasonality *** Seasonal influenza exhibited distinct spatial and temporal patterns in different climate zones. Using Boosted Regression Trees and Remotely Sensed Data to Drive Decision-Making

Challenges in Big Data analysis arise due to the way the data are recorded, maintained, processed and stored. We demonstrate that a hierarchical, multivariate, statistical machine learning algorithm, namely Boosted Regression Tree (BRT) can address Big Data challenges to drive decision making. The challenge of this study is lack of interoperability since the data, a collection of GIS shapefiles, remotely sensed imagery, and aggregated and interpolated spatio-temporal information, are stored in monolithic hardware components. For the modelling process, it was necessary to create one common input file. By merging the data sources together, a structured but noisy input file, showing inconsistencies and redundancies, was created. Here, it is shown that BRT can process different data granularities, heterogeneous data and missingness. In particular, BRT has the advantage of dealing with missing data by default by allowing a split on whether or not a value is missing as well as what the value is. Most importantly, the BRT offers a wide range of possibilities regarding the interpretation of results and variable selection is automatically performed by considering how frequently a variable is used to define a split in the tree. A comparison with two similar regression models (Random Forests and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator, LASSO) shows that BRT outperforms these in this instance. BRT can also be a starting point for sophisticated hierarchical modelling in real world scenarios. For example, a single or ensemble approach of BRT could be tested with existing models in order to improve results for a wide range of data-driven decisions and applications.

The confluence of several factors including government fiscal pressures and growing opportunities for tax minimization in a digital economy prompted the OECD to embark on a program to reduce base erosion and profit shifting(BEPS).At the same time,countries became increasingly unhappy about international tax rules that left them unable to impose income taxes on companies earning profits by selling to customers inside their country without establishing a taxable presence *** frustration led to unilateral responses that prompted the OECD to develop proposals to address this problem as *** OECD’s proposals to reduce profit shifting and enhance taxing rights of sales destination countries evolved into what are now known as Pillar One and Pillar Two international tax *** paper provides an overview of the operation of each of the Pillars and notes the limitations that prevent them from addressing the underlying causes of profit shifting and providing full taxing rights to sales destination jurisdictions.

The Complexities of Resistance to Bevacizumab

Glioblastoma is a highly malignant primary tumor of the central nervous system tumor with a poor survival rate. The treatment of glioblastoma is shifting from a purely cytotoxic approach to one that incorporates anti-angiogenic agents. Bevacizumab (Avastin;Roche) was approved in the United States for the treatment of recurrent glioblastoma in May 2009 and showed encouraging results. However, “rebound” tumor progression with accelerated clinical decline has been observed after cessation of bevacizumab therapy in patients with high-grade gliomas and there is no effective treatment for the recurrent glioblastoma after bevacizumab failure. This review summarizes the characteristics of glioblastoma as well as the possible mechanisms of recurrence after anti-angiogenic therapy. Furthermore, alterations of the key molecular pathways and glycometabolic remodeling in glioblastoma are also discussed within. A better understanding of the complexities underpinning the resistance to bevacizumab and the combination of targeting cancer metabolism and anti-VEGF therapy may ultimately result in new modes of treatment, which hopefully improve the overall survival for patients diagnosed with glioblastoma.

Early efforts to classify Mortierellaceae were based on macro-and micromorphology,but sequencing and phylogenetic studies with ribosomal DNA(rDNA)markers have demonstrated conflicting taxonomic groupings and polyphyletic *** some taxonomic confusion in the family has been clarified,rDNA data alone is unable to resolve higher level phylogenetic relationships within *** this study,we applied two parallel approaches to resolve the Mortierel-laceae phylogeny:low coverage genome(LCG)sequencing and high-throughput,multiplexed targeted amplicon sequenc-ing to generate sequence data for multi-gene *** then combined our datasets to provide a well-supported genome-based phylogeny having broad sampling depth from the amplicon *** the Mortierellaceae phylogeny into monophyletic genera resulted in 13 genera,7 of which are newly ***-coverage genome sequencing proved to be a relatively cost-effective means of generating a high-confidence *** multi-gene phylogenetics approach enabled much greater sampling depth and breadth than the LCG approach,but has limitations *** present this work to resolve some of the taxonomic confusion and provide a genus-level framework to empower future studies on Mortierellaceae diversity and evolution.

Fast-neutron （FN） irradiation has been used to create mutagen- ized collections of many plant species （Bolon et al., 2014）, FN- induced mutagenesis has clear advantages： it is an efficient means of saturating the genome, and it does not involve time- consuming plant transformation or tissue culture. In rice, most mutant collections, although highly valuable, were generated us- ing either T-DNA insertion or transposon tagging approaches that often induce mutations unlinked to the insertion and complicating analysis （Wang et al., 2013）. Another disadvantage of some of these collections is that they were created in rice varieties that are photoperiod-sensitive and often have long generation times.
