Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the sixth most common cancer in the *** majority of patients with HCC present with unresectable *** patients have historically had limited treatment options secondary to HCC demonstrating chemoresistance to the currently available systemic ***, normal liver parenchyma has shown intolerance to tumoricidal radiation doses,limiting the use of external beam *** of these limitations,novel percutaneous liver-directed therapies have emerged. the targeted infusion of radioactive microspheres (radioembolization)represents one such therapy. Radioembolization is a minimally invasive transcatheter therapy through which radioactive microspheres are infused into the hepatic arteries that supply tumor. Once infused,these microspheres traverse the hepatic vascular plexus and selectively implant within the tumor *** within the arterioles, the 90Y impregnated microspheres emit high energy and low penetrating radiation doses selectively to the *** has recently shown promise for the treatment of patients with unresectable HCC. the objective of this review article is to highlight twocurrently available radioembolic devices(90Y,188Rh)and provide the reader with a recent review of the literature.

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging to predict response of hepatocellular carcinoma to chemoembolization

AIM: to investigate whether intra-procedural diffusion- weighted magnetic resonance imaging can predict response of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) during trans- catheter arterial chemoembolization (tACE). MEtHODS: Sixteen patients (15 male), aged 59 ±11 years (range: 42-81 years) underwent a total of 21 separate treatments for unresectable HCC in a hybrid magnetic resonance/interventional radiology suite. Ana- tomical imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging (b = 0, 500 s/mm2) were performed on a 1.5-t unit. tumor enhancement and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC, mm2/s) values were assessed immediately before and at 1 and 3 mo after tACE. We calculated the percent change (PC) in ADC values at all time points. We compared follow-up ADC values to baseline values using a paired t test (α = 0.05). RESULtS: the intra-procedural sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values (%) for detecting a complete or partial 1-mo tumor response using ADC PC thresholds of ±5%, ±10%, and ±15% were 77, 67, 91, and 40; 54, 67, 88, and 25; and 46, 100, 100, and 30, respectively. there was no clear predictive value for the 3-mo follow-up. Compared to baseline, the immediate post-procedure and 1-mo mean ADC values both increased; the latter obtaining statistical significance (1.48 ± 0.29 mm2/s vs 1.65 ± 0.35 × 10-3 mm2/s, P tra-procedural ADC changes of > 15% predicted 1-mo anatomical HCC response with the greatest accuracy, and can provide valuable feedback at the time of tACE.

Effects of gamma-ray irradiation on electronic and non-electronic equipment of Large Helical Device

In a deuterium operation on the Large Helical Device, the measurement and control equipment placed in the toms hall must survive under an environment of radiation, to study the effects of gamma-ray irradiation on the equipment, an irradiation experiment is performed at the Cobalt-60 irradiation facility of Nagoya University. transient and permanent effects on a personal computer, media converters, programmable logic controllers, isolation amplifiers, a web camera, optical flow meters, and water sealing gaskets are experimentally surveyed. transient noise appears on the web camera. Offset of the signal increases with an increase of the integrated dose on the programmable logic controller. the DeviceNet module on the programmable logic controller is broken at the integrated dose of 72 Gy, which is the expected range of the integrated dose of the toms hall. the other equipment can survive under the gamma-ray field in the toms hall.

We have developed an analytic continuation method for extracting parameters of nucleon resonances within a Hamiltonian formulation of meson-nucleon reactions. the method was tested for simple solvable models and then applied for our recent coupled channels model （πN, ηN, π△, ρN, and σN ） of the π＊N and γ＊N reactions. the resonance pole positions and their properties are studied for P11and P11 channels.

While engineers put lots of effort,resources,and time in building insect scale micro aerial vehicles(MAVs)that fly like insects,insects themselves are the real masters of *** if we would use living insect as platform for MAV instead?Here,we reported a flight control via electrical stimulation of a flight musde of an insect-computer hybrid robot,which is the interface of a mountable wireless backpack controller and a living *** beetle uses indirect flight muscles to drive wing flapping and three major direct flight muscles(basalar,subalar,and third axilliary(3Ax)muscles)to control the kinematics of the wings for flight *** turning control was already achieved by stimulating basalar and 3Ax muscles,electrical stimu lation of subalar musdes resulted in braking and elevation control in *** also demonstrated around 20 degrees of contralateral yaw and roll by stimulating individual subalar *** both subalar muscles lead to an increase of 20 degrees in pitch and decelerate the flight by 1.5 m/s2 as well as an induce in elevation of 2m/s.

Greenhouse gases fluxes and soil thermal properties in a pasture in central Missouri

Fluctuations of greenhouse gases emissions and soil properties occur at short spatial and temporal scales, however, results are often reported for larger scales studies. We monitored CO2, CH4, and N2O fluxes and soil temperature （t）, thermal conductivity （K）, resistivity （R） and thermal diffusivity （D） from 2004 to 2006 in a pasture. Soil air samples for determination of CO2, CH4 and N2O concentrations were collected from static and vented chambers and analyzed within two hours of collection with a gas chromatograph. t, K, R and D were measured in-situ using a KD2 probe. Soil samples were also taken for measurements of soil chemical and physical properties. the pasture acted as a sink in 2004, a source in 2005 and again a sink of CH4 in 2006. CO2 and CH4 were highest, but N2O as well as t, K and D were lowest in 2004. Only K was correlated with C02 in 2004 while t correlated with both N2O （r = 0.76, p = 0.0001） and CO2 （r = 0.88, p = 0.0001） in 2005. In 2006, all gases fluxes were significantly correlated with t, K and R when the data for the entire year were considered. However, an in-depth examination of the data revealed the existence of month-to-month shifts, lack of correlation and differing spatial structures. these results stress the need for further studies on the relationship between soil properties and gases fluxes. K and R offer a promise as potential controlling factors for greenhouse gases fluxes in this pasture.

time series analysis of mantle cycles Part Ⅰ:Periodicities and correlations among seven global isotopic databases

In this study,seven isotopic databases are presented and analyzed to identify mantle and crustal episodes on a global scale by focusing on periodicity ranging from 70 to 200 million years(Myr).the databases are the largest,or among the largest,compiled for each type of data-with an objective of finding some samples from every region of every continent,to make each database as global as conceivably *** databases contain zircon Lu/Hf isotopic data,whole-rock Sm/Nd isotopic data,U/Pb detrital zircon ages,U/Pb igneous zircon ages,U/Pb non-zircon ages,whole-rock Re/Os isotopic data,and large igneous province *** I of this study focuses on the periodicities of age histograms and geochemical averages developed from the seven databases,via spectral and cross-correlation *** physical cycles often propagate in exact integer multiples of a fundamental cycle,referred to as *** tests show that harmonic geological cycles of^93.5 and^187 Myr have persisted throughout terrestrial history,and the cyclicities are statistically significant for U/Pb igneous zircon ages,U/Pb detrital zircon ages,U/Pb zircon-rim ages,large igneous province ages,meanεHf(t)for all samples,meanεHf(t)values for igneous-only samples,and relative abundance of mafic *** important,cross-correlation analyses show these seven time-series are nearly synchronous(±7 Myr)with a model consisting of periodicities of 93.5 and 187 ***,the similarities between peaks in the 93.5 and 187 Myr mantle cycles and terminal ages of established and suspected superchrons provide a framework for predicting and testing superchron periodicity.

the reactions π-p→ηn and γp→ηp are investigated within a dynamical coupled-channels model of meson production reactions in the nucleon resonance region. the meson-baryon channels included are πN, ηN, π-, σN, and ρN. the direct η-photoproduction process is studied within a formalism based on a chiral constituent quark model approach, complemented with a one-gluon-exchange mechanism, to take into account the breakdown of the SU(6)O(3) symmetry. In the models search, the following known nucleon resonances are embodied: S11(1535), S11(1650), P11(1440), P11(1710), P13(1720), D13(1520), D13(1700), D15(1675), and F15(1680). Data for the π-p→ηn reaction from threshold up to a total center-of-mass energy of W ≈ 2 GeV are satisfactorily reproduced. For the photoproduction channel, two additional higher mass known resonances, P13(1900) and F15(2000), are also considered. However, reproducing the data for γp→ηp requires, within our approach, two new nucleon resonances, for which we extract mass and width.
