Current gradient-index(GRiN)lens based proximal-driven intracoronary.optical coherence tomography.iCOCT)probes consist of a spacer and a GRiN lens with large gradient *** design provides great flexibility.to control beam profiles,but the spacer length should be well controlled to obtain desired beam profiles and thus it sets an obstacle in mass catheter ***,although GRiN lens with large gradient constant can provide tight focus spot,it has short depth of focus and fast-expanded beam which leads to poor lateral resolution for deep *** this paper,a ty.e of spacer-removed probe is demonstrated with a small gradient constant GRiN *** design simplifies the fabrica-tion process and is suitable for mass *** output beam of the catheter is a narrow nearly.col.imated light beam,referred to as pencil beam *** full width at half maximum beam size varies from 35.1μm to 75.3μm in air over 3-mm *** design principles are elaborated with probe/catheter fabrication and performance *** in vivo imaging of the catheter was verified by.a clinical.iCOCT *** results prove that this novel pencil-beam scanning catheter is potentially.a good choice for iCOCT sy.tems.

The neurophy.iological measurement technique k.own as magnetoencephalography. or MEG, has been in use since the early.1970's, and applied to clinical populations since the early.1980's. However, it was not until the late 1980's and early.1990's that the technology.was advanced to point where effective clinical use was achieved. This presentation will review the basic principles of MEG, discuss the progression of technology.development and give an update on the current clinical applications of the technology.

Adult olfactory.neurogenesis play. critical roles in maintaining olfactory.***-generated neurons in the subventricular zone migrate to the olfactory.bulb(OB) and determine olfactory.discrimination,but the mechanisms underl.ing the regulation of olfactory.neurogenesis remain *** previous study.indicated the potential of APPl2(adaptor protein,phosphoty.osine interacting with PH domain and leucine zipper 2) as a modulating factor for neurogenesis in the adult olfactory.*** the present study.we report how APPl2 affects neurogenesis in the OB and thereby.mediates olfactory.discrimination by.using both in vitro neural stem cells(NSCs) and an in vivo animal model-APPl2 transgenic(Tg) *** the in vitro study.we found that APPl2 overexpression resulted in NSCs switching from neuronal differentiation to gliogenesis while APPl2 k.ock.own promoted *** the in vivo study.APPl2 Tg mice had a higher population of glial cells and dampened neuronal production in the olfactory.sy.tem,including the corpus callosum,OB,and rostral migratory.*** APPl2 Tg mice display.d impaired performance in olfactory.discrimination tests compared with wild-ty.e ***,we found that an interaction of APPl2 with Notch1 contributed to the roles of APPl2 in modulating the neurogenic lineage-switching and olfactory.*** conclusion,APPl2 controls olfactory.discrimination by.switching the fate choice of NSCs via interaction with Notch1 signaling.

back.round Biliary.atresia(BA)is one of the most challenging hepatobiliary.diseases in *** the reasonable outcome of liver transplantation(lT),portoenteral anastomosis(k.sai operation)is still the first choice of treatment for patients with *** to improve the survival rate of the patients with BA in the era of lT is a new *** sources Based on recent original publications and the experience with the BA in China,we review many.factors that influence BA survival situation,including early.diagnosis and screen plan,defects of early.treatment,k.sai operation,and lT and indicate present questions about BA diagnosis and treatment in *** BA diagnosis may.also be delay.d due to insufficient understanding of BA and lack.of jaundice monitoring methods at different levels of the hospitals in *** education of the phy.icians at smaller city.hospitals about BA,neonatal jaundice and cholestasis would be helpful.in improving early.diagnosis of *** surgical.intervention is still the only.guarantee to improve the survival rate of BA with native *** in the era of lT,especially.in China,k.sai operation can provide waiting time for living donor lT and improve the success rate of lT and minimize the rapid deterioration of liver function of the children with BA and decrease the mortality.in patients with BA.

Fiber optical parametric oscillator based on highly.nonlinear dispersion-shifted fiber

The development of fiber optical parametric oscillators (FOPO) based on highly.nonlinear dispersion-shifted fiber is reviewed in this paper. Firstly. the back.round and motivation are introduced, and it is pointed out that the FOPO is promising to act as optical source in non-conventional wavelength bands. Subsequently. the context focuses principally.on the problem of inherent mul.iple-longitudinal-mode characteristic of FOPO and the corresponding solutions to it. The primary.technique is by.lock.ng the phase of mul.iple longitudinal modes. The first reported actively.mode lock.d FOPO is also presented in this article. However, it is not probable to realize passively.mode lock.d FOPO because of the random phase dithering of the pump required for suppressing stimulated Brillouin scattering. Furthermore, a regeneratively.mode lock.d FOPO is demonstrated, which can generate wide band tunable radiation in nonconventional wavelengths. Besides mode lock.d FOPO, the single-longitudinal-mode FOPO is also introduced. Finally. potential future directions are discussed.

Validity.of Alvarado Score in predicting disease severity.and postoperative complication in pediatric acute appendicitis

back.round This study.evaluates the validity.of Alvarado Score in predicting disease severity.and the development of postoperative complications in pediatric *** This is a retrospective,bicentered study.on pediatric patients with emergency.appendicectomy.performed from 2006 to *** relationship of Alvarado Score(low:1-4,medium:5-6,high:7-10)and operative findings/complications was *** A total of 316 patients were included and the median age on admission was 10.8 *** overall median score was 8.***.13.3%,20.2%,and 66.5%of patients had low,medium,and high risk.scores,respectively.36.1%of patients had complicated appendicitis and the median score was comparable with that of the uncomplicated cases(7.0 vs 7.4,p=0.21).More complicated cases were found in the medium-risk.group(high vs medium vs low=29.7%vs 61.4%vs 31.0%,p=0.01).Rebound tenderness had the highest positive predictive value(65%)for complicated *** complications were found in 16.5%of patients with a higher median score(7.87 vs 5.8,p=0.01).Conclusion Alvarado Score does not predict disease severity.but postoperative *** with medium risk.score should also be treated promptly.for the risk.of having complicated *** tenderness may.be a signal for complicated appendicitis and should be properly.examined.

Back.round:Participation in sports is associated with many.benefits to all aspects of health;however,it also comes with the risk.of injury.particularly.***-disclosure and care seek.ng following a concussion are especially.important because of the lack.of outwardly.visible signs and/or *** recent research has explored factors affecting concussion disclosure,use of isolated methodologies limits the ability.to contextualize how disclosure or nondisclosure ***,the purpose of this study.was to describe the factors and expectations of National Collegiate Athletic Association(NCAA)athletes that may.influence concussion ***:This mixed-methods convergent parallel research study.included 25 NCAA Division i athletes representing 13 sports,all of whom completed a concussion-education session with pre-/post-test survey. and a semistructured *** athletes were at least 18 y.ars old and on an NCAA *** survey. focused on previous concussion-related disclosure behaviors,k.owledge,attitudes,beliefs,norms,and intentions about disclosing *** focused on the athletes’experiences related to concussion *** data were analy.ed using descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney.U *** were analy.ed using a Consensual Qualitative Research ***:Participants had good concussion k.owledge(median=46.0),positive attitudes(median=38.0),strong beliefs(median=13.0),and strong intentions to disclose concussion sy.ptoms(median=7.0).None of the constructs differed by.participants’*** quantitative findings were mostly.positive,interview data highlighted factors that may.expl.in why.some participants are successful.in disclosing concussions and why.others may.find disclosure *** efforts,sport culture,and medical professional presence were the primary.facilitators discussed by.***,pressure,and a lack.of team support were perceived as di

Coherent Raman scattering(CRS)microscopy.is widely.recognized as a powerful tool for tack.ing biomedical problems based on its chemically.specific label-free contrast,high spatial and spectral resolution,and high ***,the clinical translation of CRS imaging technologies has long been hindered by.traditional solid-state lasers with environmentally.sensitive operations and large *** fibre lasers can potentially.overcome these shortcomings but have not y.t been fully.expl.ited for CRS imaging,as previous implementations have suffered from high intensity.noise,a narrow tuning range and low power,resul.ing in low image qualities and slow imaging ***,we present a novel high-power self-sy.chronized two-colour pulsed fibre laser that achieves excellent performance in terms of intensity.stability.improved by.50 dB),timing jitter(24.3 fs),average power fluctuation(lation depth(>20 dB)and pulse width variation(ility.of the laser source enables,for the first time,high-contrast,fast CRS imaging without complicated noise reduction via balanced detection *** capabilities are demonstrated in this work.by.imaging a wide range of species such as living human cells and mouse arterial tissues and performing mul.imodal nonlinear imaging of mouse tail,k.dney.and brain tissue sections by.utilizing second-harmonic generation and twophoton excited fluorescence,which provides mul.iple optical contrast mechanisms simultaneously.and maximizes the gathered information content for biological visualization and medical *** work.also establishes a general scenario for remodel.ing existing lasers into sy.chronized two-colour lasers and thus promotes a wider popularization and application of CRS imaging technologies.
