Novel synthetic adhesive as an effective alternative to Fibrin based adhesives

To compare a novel, fully synthetic, polyurethane based glue (MAR-1) to fibrin sealant in a partial liver resection rat model. METHODSAfter 50% resection of the lateral left liver lobe in male Wistar rats (n = 7/group/time point), MAR-1, Fibrin or NaCl was applied. After 14, 21 and 90 postoperative days, sealant degradation, intra-abdominal adhesions were scored, and histological examination of liver tissue was performed. RESULTS(Mean ± SEM) (MAR-1 vs Fibrin vs NaCl). Bleeding mass was significantly higher in NaCl (3.36 ± 0.51 g) compared to MAR-1 (1.44 ± 0.40 g) and Fibrin (1.16 ± 0.32 g). At 14 and 90 d, bleeding time was significantly lower in MAR-1 (6.00 ± 0.9 s; 13.57 ± 3.22 s) and Fibrin (3.00 ± 0.44 s; 22.2 ± 9.75 s) compared to NaCl (158.16 ± 11.36 s; 127.5 ± 23.3 s). ALT levels were significantly higher in MAR-1 (27.66 ± 1 U/L) compared to Fibrin (24.16 ± 0.98 U/L) and NaCl (23.85 ± 0.80 U/L). Intrabdominal adhesions were significantly lower in MAR-1 (11.22% ± 5.5%) compared to NaCl (58.57% ± 11.83%). Degradation of the glue was observed and MAR-1 showed almost no traces of glue in the abdominal cavity as compared to the Fibrin (10% ± 5% 14 d; 7% ± 3% 21 d). Survival showed no significant differences between the groups. CONCLUSIONCompared to Fibrin, MAR-1 showed similar hemostatic properties, no adverse effects, and is biocompatible. Further studies on adhesion strength and biodegradability of synthetic sealants are warranted.

North American lake cress, Rorippa aquatica (Eaton) EJ Palmer & Steyermark (Brassicaceae), is listed as an endangered or threatened species. Lake cress shows heterophyllic changes in leaf form in response to the surrounding environment. Therefore, this species has received considerable attention from ecological and morphological perspectives. However, its phylogenetic position and taxonomic status have long been a subject of debate. To analyze the phylogenetic relationship of lake cress, we investigated chloroplast DNA sequences from 17 plant species. The results of phylogenetic reconstruction performed using trnL intron, trnG (GCC)-trnM (CAU), and psbC-trnS (UGA) indicated that lake cress is a member of Rorippa. Moreover, we found that the chromosome number of lake cress is 2n = 30. This result indicated that lake cress might have originated from aneuploidy of triploid species or via intergeneric crossing. Taken together, our results suggest an affinity between lake cress and Rorippa at the molecular level, indicating that lake cress should be treated as Rorippa aquatica (Eaton) EJ Palmer & Steyermark.

目的心脏结节病（CS）可以通过***／CT、心血管磁共振（CMR）和123I-BMIPP／201T1C1双核素心肌SPECT显像来诊断。该研究旨在说明这3种方法之间的关系。方法和结果16例确诊为CS的患者[男性11例，年龄（55±13）岁]在类固醇治疗前进行了18F-FDGPET／CT、CMR和双核素门控SPECT显像。以上显像时左心室心肌均被分为17段，PET／CT显像时计算各段的最大标准摄取值（SUVmax）；双核素SPECT显像时计算放射性缺损评分（0-4；0为放射性分布正常，4为放射性缺损），包括123I—BMIPP显像的缺损评分（BMDS）、201T1C1显像的缺损评分（TLDS）和两者间的不匹配评分（MS）；CMR显像时计算延时钆增强（LGE）评分（0为无延时增强；1为部分增强；2为均匀增强）。17个节段总计BMDS、TLDS和MS分别为18．6±12．6、12．9±10．9和5．7±3．1。各段的BMDS和TLDS评分随着LGE评分增加而显著增加（P〈0．001）。与LGE评分为0的节段相比，LGE评分为1的节段其MS评分显著增加（P〈0．001），但是LGE评分为1和2的节段其MS评分无明显差异。就LGE评分为1的节段而言，其SUVmax与LGE评分为0的节段相比显著增加（P〈O．025），但是与LGE评分为2的节段相比无明显差异。结论CS患者具有较高SUVmax的区域主要位于有延时增强效应的节段，提示有活动性心肌炎性反应，这些患者123I-BMIPP和和201T1C1显像有明显的不匹配。

＜正＞Automatic extraction of human opinions from Web documents has been receiving increasing interest. To automate the process of opinion extraction, having a collection of evaluative expressions such as "the seats are comfortable" would be useful. However, it can be costly to manually create an exhaustive list of such expressions for many domains, because they tend to be domain-dependent. Motivated by this, we have been exploring ways to accelerate the process of collecting evaluative expressions by applying a text mining technique. This paper proposes a semi-automatic method that uses partitular cooccurrence patterns of evaluated subjects, focused attributes and value expressions.

Background:The application of cryopreservation and artificial insemination technology have contributed to the advancement of animal ***,a substantial proportion of spermatozoa undergoes alterations and loses their fertility during cryopreservation,rendering the frozen-thawed semen impractical for routine *** is known to reduce sperm lifespan and *** in cryosurvival of spermatozoa from different sires and even with the individual sire is common in artificial insemination(AI)*** goal is to improve post-thawed semen quality by optimization of cryopreservation technique through sperm selection prior to cryopreservation ***:Our strategy of sperm selection based on rheotaxis and thermotaxis(SSRT)on macrosale in a rotating fluid flow demonstrated the ability to maintain the original pre-freezing structural integrity,viability and biological function related to fertilization *** strategy has a positive effect on the cryosurvival and fertilizing abilities of spermatozoa as supported by the improvement on pregnancy rate of Japanese Black heifers and Holstein repeat *** technique protected further sublethal damage to bovine spermatozoa(higher%cryosurvival than the control)and resulted in the improvement of DNA *** selected spermatozoa demonstrated slower and controlled capacitation than unprocessed control which is thought to be related to sperm longevity and consequently to appropriate timing during in vivo ***:These results provide solid evidence that improvement of post-thawed semen quality by SSRT method is beneficial in terms of cryosurvival,longevity of post-thawed sperm,and optimization of in vivo fertilization,embryo development and calving as supported by the favorable results of field fertility study.

Smart Inverter Functionality Testing for Battery Energy Storage Systems

Variable distributed energy resources (DERs) such as photovoltaic (PV) systems and wind power systems require additional power resources to control the balance between supply and demand. Battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are one such possible resource for providing grid stability. It has been proposed that decentralized BESSs could help support microgrids (MGs) with intelligent control when advanced functionalities are implemented with variable DERs. One key challenge is developing and testing smart inverter controls for DERs. This paper presents a standardized method to test the interoperability and functionality of BESSs. First, a survey of grid-support standards prevalent in several countries was conducted. Then, the following four interoperability functions defined in IEC TR 61850-90-7 were tested: the specified active power from storage test (INV4), the var-priority Volt/VAR test (VV) and the specified power factor test (INV3) and frequency-watt control (FW). This study then out-lines the remaining technical issues related to basic BESS smart inverter test protocols.
