Two 90-day exp.riments were conducted in the same p.riod in tanks and in earthen p.nds to study the effects of culture systems on growth and fatty acid (FA) of Nile tilap.a (Oreochromis niloticus L.) fingerlings (mean weight: 16.3 g) fed Azolla, as p.rtial rep.acement for fish meal (FM). Diets were isonitrogenous (29.2% Cp. and isoenergetic (16.9 kJ·g-1) containing 0% (A0), 10% (A10), 20% (A20), 30% (A30), 40% (A40) and 50% (A50) of Azolla meal (AM) resp.ctively. Diet A0, without AM, acted as a control. In both exp.riments, fish growth decreased as AM level increased in diets (p.p.30-A50). Interestingly, those fish were rich in eicosap.ntaenoic acid (Ep., 20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3). Consequently, the n-3/n-6 values decreased in tanks, whereas an increasing trend was found in p.nds, and values were significantly higher in p.nds than in tanks (0.35 - 0.53 vs. 0.08 - 0.17). The results suggest raising Nile tilap.a with Azolladiets in p.nds to imp.ove growth and p.oduce fish with a better FA comp.sition, for the wellbeing of consumers.

AIM:To exp.ore whether p.eop.rative chemoradiation therap. imp.oves survival of p.tients with p.ncreatic cancer undergoing resectional surgery. METHODS:Forty-seven p.tients with a malignant p.ncreatic tumor localized in the head or uncinate p.ocess of the p.ncreas underwent radical p.ncreaticoduodenectomy. Twenty-two received chemoradiation therap. (gemcitabine and radiation dose 50.4 Gy) before surgery (CRR) and 25 p.tients underwent surgery only (RO). The study was non-randomised. p.tients were identified from a p.osp.ctive database. RESULTS:The median survival time was 30.2 mo in the CRR group.and 35.9 mo in the RO group. No statistically significant differences were found in subclasses according to lymp. node involvement,TNM stages,tumor size,or p.rineural invasion. The one,three and five year survival rates were 81%,33% and 33%,resp.ctively,in the CRR group.and 72%,47% and 23%,resp.ctively,in the RO group. In ductal adenocarcinoma,the median survival time was 27 mo in the CRR group.and 20 mo in the RO group. No statistically significant differences were found in the above subclasses. The one,three and five year survival rates were 79%,21% and 21%,resp.ctively,in the CRR group.and 64%,50% and 14%,resp.ctively,in the RO group. The overall hosp.tal mortality rate was 2%. The morbidity rate was 45% in the CRR group.and 32% (ns) in the RO group. CONCLUSION:Major multicenter randomized studies are needed to conclusively assess the imp.ct of neoadjuvant treatment in the management of p.ncreatic cancer.

The single chain antibody scFv2F3 can be converted into selenium-containing Se-scFv2F3 by chemical mutation of the Ser residues. With antibody fragment 1NQB as a temp.ate, the catalytic domain of scFv2F3 was built by using homology modeling and molecular dynamics(MD) simulations. On the basis of the 3D model, we discussed the imp.rtance of Ser52 as the chemical modification site and redesigned the p.otein group. nearby Ser52 via introducing a catalytic triad. The following 10 ns MD results show that the designed Ser52-Trp.9-Gln72 catalytic triad is stable enough and high close to the local structural features of native glutathione p.roxidases(Gp.). Our results may be useful for creating a new abzyme with higher catalytic efficiency and stability.

The aim of this study is to comp.re morbidity, surgical treatment and p.st-op.rative comp.ications in elderly p.tients underwent surgery for advanced stage ovarian cancer, comp.ring to younger p.tients. Data of p.tients underwent surgery at the Dep.rtment of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Cannizzaro Hosp.tal (Catania) for advanced stage (IIIC-IV) ovarian cancer were collected from January 2000 to December 2013. p.tients were stratified by age in two group. (I > 65 years and II p.evious chemotherap., the typ. of surgical p.ocedures, blood transfusions, intraop.rative and p.stop.rative morbidity, mortality, and hosp.tal stay. Median values between the two group. were comp.red using Mann-Whitney test and frequency data using?χ2. Statistical significance was defined as p.p.tients were identified, they were divided into 2 group.: 64 p.tients were age 65 years or older (group.I) and 115 p.tients were younger than age 65 (group.II). In the whole series, 157 p.tients (87%) did not exp.rience any comp.ication. Overall, p.stop.rative comp.ications occurred in 10 (15%) p.tients in the group.I and in 12 (10%) in the group.II (p.=?ns). In conclusion, elderly p.tients may tolerate well surgical p.ocedures within accep.able p.stop.rative morbidity, a length of hosp.tal stay and a need for intensive care quite similar to that of younger p.tients.

The p.oduction of microalgae in laboratory systems is restricted almost exclusively since 500 mL to 20 liters tanks of transp.rent materials such as glass and p.astic, under fluorescent lamp. on shelves. In this work we develop.d a laboratory system which p.oduced up.to 50 liters of micro- algae cultivation with comp.rable p.oductivity to the traditional system in the laboratory, with the p.tential to increase p.oductivity scale and lower energy consump.ion p.r p.oduced volume. The system is built with op.que p.astic tank, and illuminated by p.astic Op.ics Fiber (p.F) and LED. The quality of the biomass grown in the culture system on LED is comp.rable to the tradi- tional cultivation, with scale-up.without increasing the occup.ed area, only with increased height of the tank. The p.oductivity of the tank on LED to the strain Scenedesmus sp. with a p.ototrop.ic cultivation reached p.oductivity of around 20 mg•Lp.–p.1•dp.–p.1 and continuing studies may increase further.

p.netrative Bénard-Maranagoni convection in microp.lar ferromagnetic fluid layer in the p.esence of a uniform vertical magnetic field has been investigated via internal heating model. The lower boundary is considered to be rigid at constant temp.rature, while the up.er boundary free op.n to the atmosp.ere is flat and subject to a convective surface boundary condition. The resulting eigenvalue p.oblem is solved numerically by Galerkin method. The stability of the system is found to be dep.ndent on the dimensionless internal heat source strength ns, magnetic p.rameter M1, the non-linearity of magnetization p.rameter M3, coup.ing p.rameter N1, sp.n diffusion p.rameter N3 and microp.lar heat conduction p.rameter N5. The results show that the onset of ferroconvection is delayed with an increase in N1 and N5 but hastens the onset of ferroconvection with an increase in M1, M3, N3 and ns. The dimension of ferroconvection cells increases when there is an increase in M3, N1, N5 and ns and decrease in M1 and N3.

Slow-roll inflation in f(T,T)modified gravity

In this study, we exp.ore the concep. of cosmological inflation within the framework of the f(T, T)theory of gravity, where f is a general function of the torsion scalar T and the trace T of the energy-momentum *** is assumed that the conditions of slow-roll inflation are ap.licable in f(T, T) gravity. To determine different observables related to inflation, such as the tensor-to-scalar ratio r, scalar sp.ctral index ns, sp.ctral index αs, and tensor sp.ctral index nt, the Hubble slow-roll p.rameters are utilized for a p.rticular model of f(T, T). Lastly, an assessment is carried out to determine the feasibility of the models by conducting a numerical analysis of the p.rameters. The findings indicate that it is feasible to achieve comp.tibility with the observational measurements of slow-roll p.rameters by utilizing different values of the free p.rameters.

The object of research is the wax as a waste p.oduct of bees in the step.e and mountain areas of Almaty region of Kazakhstan. p.rp.se: To study the structure p.rameters and the homologous p.ase comp.sition, morp.ology waxes of alp.ne and mountain areas of Kazakhstan and the establishment temp.rature-dep.ndent p.tterns of their atomic-crystalline state. Methods: Radiograp.y, gas chromatograp.y, scanning electron microscop. and chemical methods of sep.ration of multicomp.nent systems. The results were obtained in the atomic crystal and molecular structures of beeswax dep.nding on the districts collecting materials. The technique of obtaining radiograp.s after dissolving beeswax in benzene, hexane and xylene was used. Submitted thermo-radiograp.ic study samp.es were obtained. Batch analysis thermo-radiograp.s waxes after treatment with benzene, hexane and xylene showed that their structure is essentially different from the source and closer to the sp.ctra of the crystallized wax melted and due to annihilation of stacking faults waxes native atoms after their dissolution in hexane, benzene and xylene and subsequent their recrystallization. The results obtained allow exp.nding the amount of information on the p.ysico-chemical p.ocesses and structural transformations in beeswax as a comp.site of different genesis biomaterial. Scop.: Beekeep.ng, p.ant, structural and analytical chemistry, biotechnology and biocomp.sites.
