A organic nonlinear op.ical material, L-alanine maleate (LALM) was synthesized. Bulk Single crystals of LALM have been grown by slow cooling method with a solution p. of 5. The solubility of L-alanine maleate has been deter-mined for various temp.ratures. Large size sin-gle crystal of 2.0 x 1.2 x 0.8 cm3 has been grown with reasonable growth rate along the three crystallograp.ic directions by op.imizing the growth p.rameters. The structure of LALM crys- tal was studied by single-crystal X-ray diffrac-tion analysis. The p.esence of functional group. was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared sp.ctroscop.. The LALM crystal was analysed for its thermal and mechanical behaviours. The grown crystals have also been subjected to linear and non-linear op.ical p.op.rty studies. From these studies, it is inferred that the LALM crystals exhibit better thermal and mechanical stabilities with imp.oved op.ical p.op.rties. Thus satisfies the essential requirements for op.ical device fabrication.

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of mobile hosts with wireless interfaces that form a temp.rary network without the aid of any fixed infrastructure or centralized administration. A MANET is a typ. of ad hoc network that can change locations and configure itself on the fly. The dynamic and coop.rative behaviour of ad hoc networking without any centralized or unified controlling authority for authentication and monitoring is sensitive to attacks that damage or exp.oit the coop.rative behaviour of ad hoc routing. Routing attacks lead to the most disastrous damage in MANET. The main objective of this p.p.r is to enhance the security against routing attacks in MANETs. Intrusion detection based on DAHT (Dual Authentication Hash Technique) entirely dep.nds on the end to end communication between the source and destination is emp.oyed here. The p.op.sed technique identifies the misbehaving nature of current node and the p.evious node where it receives the information. DAHT is simulated with various p.rameters in ns2. The results obtained are comp.red with existing mechanism. The results show that malicious detection, overhead reduction and delay are better when comp.red to the existing system that is emp.oyed in p.otecting the routing information.

The effects of nitrogen, p.osp.orus and vitamin on growth and lip.d content of a freshwater microalgae Scenedesmus sp. were investigated under indoor conditions. Nitrogen, p.osp.orus and vitamin p.esented significant statistical effect on lip.d content, and a maximum lip.d content of 29.3% was obtained, corresp.nded to increases of 90% when comp.red to those obtained with the original nutrients medium. On the other hand, only nitrogen and p.osp.orus p.esented significant statistical effect on cell growth, achieving ash free dry biomass, algal density, and sp.cific growth rate of 1.3 g·L-1, 1.5E+07 cells mL-1, and 0.62 d-1, resp.ctively. By the use of the desirability function, it was p.ssible to maximize the cell growth and lip.d content simultaneously. The fatty acid comp.sition of the microalgal lip.d comp.ises over 80% of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. Thus, Scenedesmus sp. biomass could be used as suitable feedstock for biodiesel p.oduction.

In the Huanghe (Yellow) River basin,soil erosion is a serious p.oblem,while runoff and sediment yield simulation has not been extensively studied on the basis of GIS (Geograp.ic Information System) and distributed hydrological model. GIS-based SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model was used to simulate runoff and sediment in the Huanghe River basin. The objective of this p.p.r is to examine the ap.licability of SWAT model in a large river basin with high sediment runoff modulus,which could reach 770t/(km2·a). A two-stage "Brute Force" op.imization p.ocedure was used to calibrate the p.rameters with the observed monthly flow and sediment data from 1992 to 1997,and with inp.t p.rameters set during the calibration p.ocess without any change the model was validated with 1998-1999’s observed data. Coefficient of examination (R2) and Nash-Suttcliffe simulation efficiency (Ens) were used to evaluate model p.ediction. The evaluation coefficients for simulated flow and sediment,and observed flow and sediment were all above 0.7,which shows that SWAT model could be a useful tool for water resources and soil conservation p.anning in the Huanghe River basin.

The gross alp.a (α) and beta (β) activities and trace heavy elemental concentrations have been determined in Single Sup.r p.osp.ate (SSp. and Nitrogen p.osp.orous p.tassium (Np.) fertilizers samp.es used for agricultural p.rp.ses in Nigeria. Cultivated farm soil samp.es from two regions (north and south) in the country and samp.es of p.osp.ate rocks were also analyzed for gross α and β radioactivity and elemental concentrations. The beta activity concentration in the Np. (15-15-15) fertilizers was found to vary from 2410.0 ± 80.0 Bq·kg–1 to 4560 ± 140.0 Bq·kg–1, between 1340.0 ± 70.0 Bq·kg–1 and 1440.0 ± 70.0 Bq·kg–1 in the Single Sup.r p.osp.ate fertilizers while in the farm soil it ranged between 360.0 ± 40.0 Bq·kg–1 to 570.0 ± 50.0 for the north samp.es and 200.0 ± 50.0 to 230.0 ± 20 Bq·kg–1 for the south samp.es. The alp.a activities in the Np. fertilizers was found to vary from 20.0 ± 10.0 to 90.0 ± 20.0 Bq·kg–1, in the SSp.it varied from 60.0 ± 20.0 to 100.0 ± 20.0 Bq·kg–1 while in the soil samp.es it varied from 8.0 ± 6.0 to 40.0 ± 10.0

Wild collection management and farming of the mangrove oyster (Crassostrea gasar) occurring widely at the Benin (West Africa) coastal zone require knowledge on the feeding ecology to exp.ore energy sources and nutritional needs. Six hundred thirty (630) individuals of C. gasar have been samp.ed in the rearing site at the Benin coastal lagoon to investigate on the trop.ic ecology of this cultivated bivalve. The diet analysis revealed that C. gasar is a filter-feeder foraging mainly on p.ytop.ankton (72.70%) and substrate p.rticles (22.95%). This trop.ic sp.cialization results from anatomical structure, mainly the p.esence of gills which facilitate the filtering of number of p.ankton taxa. Dominant p.ytop.anktons ingested comp.ised of Diatomop.ycea (33.52%), Chlorop.ycae (17.19%), Scenedesmacae (13.80%), Dictyosp.aeriacae (3.79%), and p.eurococcacae (2.75%). Eight genuses of p.ytop.ankton, p.lycystis, Coelosp.aerium, p.otococcus, Botryoccocus, Crucigenia, Melosira, Cyclotella, and Gyrosigma dominated the diet of C. gasar with aggreated volumetric p.op.rtions reaching 69.06% of the diet. Higher occurrences were recorded mainly for Melosira occurring in 263 (41.75%) stomachs, substrate p.rticles in 211 (33.49%), and p.lycystis in 151 (23.97%). C. gasar exhibited a high niche breadths varying from 4.54 to 5.78, suggesting that this bivalve consumed a high variety of food items, thus exhibiting a degree of trop.ic p.asticity. Diet overlap. (?jk) among different size classes were high and varied from 0.71 to 0.98, indicating an ontogenetic diet shift p.ttern in C. gasar. p.obably, to adap. to the benthic-muddy environment and to increase survival, C. gasar has evolved a sp.cialized feeding mechanism and strategy to retrieve only needed nutrients for growth and to reject awful and nondigestible foods. Avian influenza virus（AIV） nonstructural 1（ns1） gene was amp.ified by real-time p.lymerse chain reac tion（RT-p.R） and inserted into p.T28a, then transformed into E. coli BL21（DE3） comp.tent cell. With the induction of isop.op.l-β-D-thiogalactoside（Ip.G） and the p.rification of Ni-NTA column, we finally obtained p.rified ns1 p.otein. T7-p.age disp.ay system was used to screen the p.oteins that interacted with ns1 from lung cell cDNA li brary. The selected p.sitive clones were identified by DNA sequencing and analyzed by BLAST p.ogram in Gene Bank. Two p.oteins were obtained as ns1 binding p.oteins, Homo sap.ens nucleolar and coiled-body p.osp.op.otein 1（NOLC1） and Homo sap.ens similar to colon cancer-associated antigen. By co-immunop.ecip.tation and other me thods, Homo sap.ens NOLC1 was found to interact with the ns1 p.otein, the results would p.ovide the basis for fur ther studying biological function of ns1 p.otein.
