Background: Desmoid tumor is a rare benign soft tissue tumor which commonly affects the trunk and extremities. Case presentation: We report a patient who presented with a tumor that slowly grew at the left lower abdominal port site 1 year after post-chemotherapy laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) for metastatic testicular tumor. The enlarging mass mimicking port site recurrence after laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for metastatic testicular tumor was diagnosed as a desmoid tumor. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first report of a desmoid tumor that developed after laparoscopic RPLND for a testicular tumor.

Hyperbranched polymers have been paid attention because of their unique structures. Especially, they have many terminals whose number is the same as that of repeating units as far as they are synthesized from AB2 type monomers. These characteristics of the hyperbranched polymers make them new functionalized polymers. Polysiloxanes have unique properties such as low Tg, high decomposition temperature, water repulsion, and good dielectric property. They are widely fabricated from liquid (oil) to solid (resin) by changing the extent of crosslinking. We have studied dendrimers and hyperbrached polymers possessing polysiloxane structure. These materials have the amphiphilic nature when they have amine functional group at the terminal position.

Clinical effects of adalimumab treatment with concomitant azathioprine in Japanese Crohn's disease patients

AIM:To assess adalimumab's efficacy with concomitant azathioprine (AZA) for induction and maintenance of clinical remission in Japanese Crohn's disease (CD) patients. METHODS:This retrospective, observational, singlecenter study enrolled 28 consecutive CD patients treated with adalimumab (ADA). Mean age and mean disease duration were 38.1 ± 11.8 years and 11.8 ± 10.1 years, respectively. The baseline mean Crohn's disease activity index (CDAI) and C-reactive protein were 177.8 ± 82.0 and 0.70 ± 0.83 mg/dL, respectively. Twelve of these patients also received a concomitant stable dose of AZA. ADA was subcutaneously administered:160 mg at week 0, 80 mg at week 2, followed by 40 mg every other week. Clinical response and remission rates were assessed via CDAI and C-reactive protein for 24 wk. RESULTS:The mean CDAI at weeks 2, 4, 8, and 24 was 124.4, 120.2, 123.6, and 135.1, respectively. The CDAI was significantly decreased at weeks 2 and 4 with ADA and was significantly suppressed at 24 wk with ADA/AZA. Overall clinical remission rates at weeks 4 and 24 were 66.7% and 63.2%, respectively. Although no statistically significant difference in C-reactive protein was demonstrated, ADA with AZA resulted in a greater statistically significant improvement in CDAI at 24 wk, compared to ADA alone. CONCLUSION:Scheduled ADA with concomitant AZA may be more effective for clinical remission achievement at 24 wk in Japanese Crohn's disease patients.

To grow high-quality and large-size monocrystalline silicon at low cost, we proposed a single-seed casting technique. To realize this technique, two challenges—polycrystalline nucleation on the crucible wall and dislocation multiplication inside the crystal—needed to be addressed. Numerical analysis was used to develop solutions for these challenges. Based on an optimized furnace structure and operating conditions from numerical analysis, experiments were performed to grow monocrystalline silicon using the single-seed casting technique. The results revealed that this technique is highly superior to the popular high-performance multicrystalline and multiseed casting mono-like techniques.

Little is reported about primary cardiac osteosarcoma from mitral valve. We report a surgical case of primary cardiac osteosarcoma arising from mitral valve. The patient was a 54-year-old woman with congestive heart failure caused by mitral regurgitation due to a tumor (30 × 20 mm) from the posterior leaflet. We performed complete resection of the tumor combined with the mitral valve and replaced it to a mechanical valve. Histopathological examination showed evidence of complete excision of cardiac osteosarcoma. Sixteen months after the initial surgery, the mechanical valve has a trouble with its opening of leaflets due to local recurrence in the mitral annulus, and 2nd mitral valve replacement following tumor excision was performed. Eighteen months after the 2nd surgery, the patient finally died by recurrence as well as invasion of osteosarcoma from mitral annulus to left ventricular myocardium. We discussed about the management and treatments of primary cardiac osteosarcoma in this case.

研究了由未端化支化聚酰胺、交联剂(MBHP)和光酸产生剂(PTMA)所组成的三元负型光敏聚合物体系.其中,不对称ABB′型单体4-(2,4-二氨基苯氧基)苯甲酸3在亚磷酸三苯酯(TPP)和吡啶(Py)的存在下,通过缩合聚合得到支化聚酰胺a,由其1H-NMR数据计算得支化度(DB)为0.36.接着用肉桂酰氯对支化聚酰胺进行末端化.采用IR,1H-NMR,GPC,TG/DTA对支化聚酰胺和末端化支化聚酰胺b的结构和性能进行了表征.由85wt%末端化支化聚酰胺b、10wt%交联剂(MBHP)和5wt%光酸产生剂(PTMA)所组成的光敏聚合物体系,在100℃预烘10min,采用436nm(g-line)紫外光曝光,随后在25℃于二甲基甲酰胺中显影10s,用水漂洗,110℃后烘3min后,得到负型图案,边界清晰且分辨率达40μm.
