Background:Physiological and biochemical processes across tissues of the body are regulated in response to the high demands of intense physical activity in several occupations,such as firefighting,law enforcement,military,and sports.A better understanding of such processes can ultimately help improve human performance and prevent illnesses in the work ***:To study regulatory processes in intense physical activity simulating real-life conditions,we performed a multi-omics analysis of 3 biofluids(blood plasma,urine,and saliva)collected from 11 wildland firefighters before and after a 45 min,intense exercise *** profiles ***-exercise were compared by Student’s t-test followed by pathway analysis and comparison between the different omics ***:Our multi-omics analysis identified and quantified 3835 proteins,730 lipids and 182 metabolites combining the 3 different types of *** blood plasma analysis revealed signatures of tissue damage and acute repair response accompanied by enhanced carbon metabolism to meet energy *** urine analysis showed a strong,concomitant regulation of 6 out of 8 identified proteins from the renin-angiotensin system supporting increased excretion of catabolites,reabsorption of nutrients and maintenance of fluid *** saliva,we observed a decrease in 3 pro-inflammatory cytokines and an increase in 8 antimicrobial peptides.A systematic literature review identified 6 papers that support an altered susceptibility to respiratory ***:This study shows simultaneous regulatory signatures in biofluids indicative of homeostatic maintenance during intense physical activity with possible effects on increased infection susceptibility,suggesting that caution against respiratory diseases could benefit workers on highly physical demanding jobs.

Isolative Synthesis and Characterization of Cellulose and Cellulose Nanocrystals from Typha angustifolia

The application potential of cellulosic materials in natural composites and other fields needs to be explored to develop innovative, sustainable, lightweight, functional biomass materials that are also environmentally friendly. This study investigated Typha angustifolia (Typha sp.) as a potential new raw material for extracting cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) for application in wastewater treatment composites. Alkaline treatments and bleaching were used to remove cellulose from the stem fibres. The CNCs were then isolated from the recovered cellulose using acid hydrolysis. The study showed a few distinct functional groups (O-H, -C-H, =C-H and C-O, and C-O-C) in the Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra. A scanning electron microscope (SEm) revealed the smooth surface of CPC and CNCs, which resulted from removing lignin and hemicellulose from powdered Typha angustifolia. Based on the crystalline index, the powdered Typha angustifolia, CPC, and CNCs were 42.86%, 66.94% and 77.41%. The loss of the amorphous section of the Typha sp. fibre resulted in a decrease in particle size. It may be inferred from the features of a Typha sp. CNC that CNCs may be employed as reinforcement in composites for wastewater treatment.

Since the 1970s,electronic fetal monitoring(EFm)also known as cardiotocography(CTG)has been used extensively in labor around the world,despite its known failure to help prevent many babies from developing neonatal encephalopathy and cerebral *** of EFm’s poor performance with respect to these outcomes arises from a fundamental misunderstanding of the differences between screening and diagnostic tests,subjective classifications of fetal heart rate(FHR)patterns that lead to large inter-observer variability in its interpretation,failure to appreciate early stages of fetal compromise,and poor statistical modeling for its use as a screening *** have developed a new approach to the practice and interpretation of EFm called the fetal reserve index(FRI)which does the following:(1)breaking FHR components down into 4 components,(heart rate,variability,accelerations,and decelerations);(2)contextualizing the metrics by adding increased uterine activity;(3)adding specific maternal,fetal,and obstetric risk *** result is an eight-point scoring metric that,when directly compared with current American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists EFm categories,even in version 1.0 with equal weighting of variables,shows that the FRI has performed much better for identifying cases at risk before damage had occurred,reducing the need for emergency deliveries,and lowering overall Cesarean delivery *** increased data,we expect further refinements in the specifics of scoring that will allow even earlier detection of compromise in labor.

On ultrahigh temperature crustal metamorphism:Phase equilibria,trace element thermometry,bulk composition,heat sources,timescales and tectonic settings

Ultrahigh temperature （UHT） metamorphism is the most thermally extreme form of regional crustal metamorphism, with temperatures exceeding 900 ℃. UHT crustal metamorphism is recognised in more than 50 localities globally in the metamorphic rock record and is accepted as ＇normal＇ in the spectrum of regional crustal processes. UHT metamorphism is Wpically identified on the basis of diagnostic mineral assemblages such as sapphirine ＋ quartz, orthopyroxene ＋ sillimanite ＋ quartz and osumilite in mg-Al- rich rock compositions, now usually coupled with pseudosection-based thermobarometry using internally-consistent thermodynamic data sets and/or Al-in-Orthopyroxene and ternary feldspar thermobarometry. Significant progress in the understanding of regional UHT metamorphism in recent years includes：（1） development of a ferric iron activity-composition thermodynamic model for sapphirine, allowing phase diagram calculations for oxidised rock compositions; （2） quantification of UHT conditions via trace element thermometry, with Zr-in-rutile more commonly recording higher temperatures than Ti-in-zircon. Rutile is likely to be stable at peak UHT conditions whereas zircon may only grow as UHT rocks are cooling. In addition, the extent to which Zr diffuses out of rutile is controlled by chemical communication with zircon; （3） more fully recognising and utilising temperature-dependent thermal properties of the crust, and the possible range of heat sources causing metamorphism in geodynamic modelling studies; （4） recognising that crust partially melted either in a previous event or earlier in a long-duration event has greater capacity than fertile, unmelted crust to achieve UHT conditions due to the heat energy consumed by partial melting reactions; （5） more strongly linking U-Pb geochronological data from zircon and monazite to P-T points or path segments through using Y ＋ REE partitioning between accessory and major phases, as well as phase diagrams incorporating Zr and REE; and （

Fire blight QTL analysis in a multi-family apple population identifies a reduced-susceptibility allele in ‘Honeycrisp’

Breeding apple cultivars with resistance offers a potential solution to fire blight,a damaging bacterial disease caused by Erwinia *** resistance alleles at quantitative trait loci(QTLs)were previously characterized in diverse malus germplasm with poor fruit quality,which reduces breeding *** study utilized a pedigree-based QTL analysis approach to elucidate the genetic basis of resistance/susceptibility to fire blight from multiple genetic sources in germplasm relevant to *** breeding ***-seven important breeding parents(IBPs)were represented by 314 offspring from 32 full-sib families,with‘Honeycrisp’being the most highly represented *** resistance/susceptibility data from a two-year replicated field inoculation study and previously curated genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism data,QTLs were consistently mapped on chromosomes(Chrs.)6,7,and *** QTLs together explained~28% of phenotypic *** Chr.6 and Chr.15 QTLs colocalized with previously reported QTLs,while the Chr.7 QTL is possibly novel.‘Honeycrisp’inherited a rare reduced-susceptibility allele at the Chr.6 QTL from its grandparent‘Frostbite’.The highly resistant IBP‘Enterprise’had at least one putative reduced-susceptibility allele at all three *** general,lower susceptibility was observed for individuals with higher numbers of reduced-susceptibility alleles across *** study highlighted QTL mapping and allele characterization of resistance/susceptibility to fire blight in complex pedigree-connected apple breeding *** gained will enable more informed parental selection and development of trait-predictive DNA tests for pyramiding favorable alleles and selection of superior apple cultivars with resistance to fire blight.

Unexpected cancellation on a catatonic patient’s electroconvulsive therapy due to the coronavirus pandemic

We report a case of a 39-year-old woman with a psychiatric history of schizoaffective disorder with catatonia,dependent personality disorder and substance use disorder whose symptoms have been very difficult to *** her most recent inpatient admission,she w as treated with electroconvulsive therapy(ECT)for *** treatment team was hopeful that ECT was making a difference for this ***,she w as only able to receive two sessions of treatment due to new hospital protocols related to the coronavirus *** the patient was not suspected to have the coronavirus,she could no longer undergo ventilation with a bag and mask during the ***-m ask ventilation is known to aerosolise the coronavirus and other diseases and potentially put healthcare workers at *** orotracheal intubation also aerosolises the coronavirus,this was the only means of airway management still allowed by anaesthesia providers at this *** psychiatry team estimated that the risks of intubation outweighed the benefits of treatment,and ECT was *** additional ECT treatments,the patient again decompensated for several weeks before being stabilised on clozapine,haloperidol and *** she eventually had a positive treatment outcome,her hospital course w as likely prolonged due to unforeseen events related to the novel *** feel that the current medical climate is unprecedented and is interfering with necessary psychiatric treatment In an unanticipated *** will need to be flexible while working with psychiatrists and identify safe ways to provide this necessary psychiatric treatment for patients.
