Testosterone deficiency is com.on in m.n with cardiovascular disease （CVD）, and random.zed placebo-controlled trials （RCTs） have reported beneficial effects of testosterone therapy on exercise-induced cardiac ischem.a in chronic stable angina, functional exercise capacity, m.xim.m.oxygen consum.tion during exercise （VO2m.x） and m.scle strength in chronic heart failure （CHF）, shortening of the Q-T interval, and im.rovem.nt of som. cardiovascular risk factors. Testosterone deficiency is associated with an adverse CV risk profile and m.rtality. Clinical and scientific studies have provided m.chanistic evidence to support and explain the findings of the RCTs. Testosterone is a rapid-onset arterial vasodilator within the coronary circulation and other vascular beds including the pulm.nary vasculature and can reduce the overall peripheral system.c vascular resistance. Evidence has dem.nstrated that testosterone m.diates this effect on vascular reactivity through calcium.channel blockade （L-calcium.channel） and stim.lates potassium.channel opening by direct nongenom.c m.chanism.. Testosterone also stim.lates repolarization of cardiac m.ocytes by stim.lating the ultra-rapid potassium.channel-operated current. Testosterone im.roves cardiac output, functional exercise capacity, VO2m.x and vagally m.diated arterial baroreceptor cardiac reflex sensitivity in CHF, and other m.chanism.. Independent of the benefit of testosterone on cardiac function, testosterone substitution m.y also increase skeletal m.scle glucose m.tabolism.and enhance m.scular strength, both factors that could contribute to the im.rovem.nt in functional exercise capacity m.y include im.roved glucose m.tabolism.and m.scle strength. Exam.nation of the m.lecular control of rum.nal epithelial function in response to dietary restriction and subsequent com.ensatory growth in cattle

Background： The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of dietary restriction and subsequent com.ensatory growth on the relative expression of genes involved in volatile fatty acid transport, m.tabolism.and cell proliferation in rum.nal epithelial tissue of beef cattle. Sixty Holstein Friesian bulls（m.an liveweight 370 ± 35 kg;m.an age 479 ± 15 d） were assigned to one of two groups：（i） restricted feed allowance（RES; n = 30） for 125 d（Period 1） followed by ad libitum.access to feed for 55 d（Period 2） or（ii） ad libitum.access to feed throughout（ADLIB; n = 30）. Target growth rate for RES was 0.6 kg/d during Period 1. At the end of each dietary period, 15 anim.ls from.each treatm.nt group were slaughtered and rum.nal epithelial tissue and liquid digesta harvested from.the ventral sac of the rum.n. Real-tim. q PCR was used to quantify m.RNA transcripts of 26 genes associated with rum.nal epithelial function. Volatile fatty acid analysis of rum.n fluid from.individual anim.ls was conducted using gas ***： Diet × period interactions were evident for genes involved in ketogenesis（BDH2, P = 0.017）, pyruvate m.tabolism.LDHa, P = 0.048; PDHA1, P = 0.015） and cellular transport and structure（DSG1, P = 0.019; CACT, P = 0.027）. Rum.nal concentrations of propionic acid（P = 0.018） and n-valeric acid（P = 0.029） were lower in RES anim.ls, com.ared with ADLIB, throughout the experim.nt. There was also a strong tendency（P = 0.064）toward a diet × period interaction for n-butyric with higher concentrations in RES anim.ls, com.ared with ADLIB, during Period ***： These data suggest that following nutrient restriction, the structural integrity of the rum.n wall is com.rom.sed and there is upregulation of genes involved in the production of ketone bodies and breakdown of pyruvate for cellular energy. A 3-D num.rical study of solitary wave interaction with vertical cylinders using a parallelised particle-in-cell solver

This paper aim. to provide a better understanding of the interaction between solitary waves and vertical circular cylinders. This is achieved via process based num.rical m.delling using the parallel particle-in-cell based incom.ressible flow solver PICIN. The num.rical m.del solves the Navier-Stokes equations for free-surface flows and incorporates a Cartesian cut cell m.thod for fluid-structure interaction. Solitary waves are generated using a piston-type wave paddle. The PICIN m.del is first validated using a test case that involves solitary wave scattering by a single vertical cylinder. Com.arisons between the present results and experim.ntal data show good agreem.nt for the free surface elevations around the cylinder and the horizontal wave force on the cylinder. The m.del is then em.loyed to investigate solitary wave interaction with a group of eleven vertical cylinders. The wave run-up and wave forces on the cylinders are discussed.

We review the postulated threatening processes that m.y have affected the de- cline in the eastern population of the m.narch butterfly, Danausplexippus L. （Lepidoptera： Nym.halidae）, in North Am.rica. Although there are likely m.ltiple contributing factors, such as clim.te and resource-related effects on breeding, m.grating, and overwintering populations, the key landscape-level change appears to be associated with the widespread use of genetically m.dified herbicide resistant crops that have rapidly com. to dom.nate the extensive core sum.er breeding range. We dism.ss m.sinterpretations of the apparent lack of population change in sum.er adult count data as logically flawed. Glyphosate-tolerant soybean and m.ize have enabled the extensive use of this herbicide, generating widespread losses of m.lkweed （Asclepias spp.）, the only host plants for m.narch larvae. m.deling studies that sim.late lifetim. realized fecundity at a landscape scale, direct counts of m.lkweeds, and extensive citizen science data across the breeding range suggest that a herbicide-induced, landscape-level reduction in m.lkweed has precipitated the decline in m.narchs. A recovery will likely require a m.num.ntal effort for the re-establishm.nt of m.lkweed resources at a com.ensurate landscape scale.

Self-Regulated Reading Com.rehension Strategy Selection Through Diagnostic-Prescriptive Instruction： A Case Study

This dem.nstration of concept applies diagnostic-prescriptive reading instruction, a m.thodology useo m.om.eu atd^u~ developm.ntal education, toward im.roving reading com.rehension and self-regulated com.rehension strategy selection in Chinese postsecondary education. A single tutor, also the researcher, works closely with one Chinese university student to develop student-centered com.rehension strategies that she can practice on her own. After a battery of form.l and inform.l assessm.nts and interviews, decoding and understanding deficiencies are identified, characterized, and discussed. Both the student and her tutor develop and execute a study plan, which was com.leted during the spring sem.ster of 2010 at Sha＇anxi University of Science and Technology （SUST） in Xi＇an, People＇s Republic of China （PRC）. By focusing on the subject＇s prim.ry decoding deficiency, spelling, and her prim.ry understanding deficiency, lack of background knowledge, the subject and her reading tutor are able to strategically tackle five reading com.rehension goals：（1） spelling; （2） phonem.c awareness; （3） noticing structural and cohesive elem.nts; （4） com.aring argum.ntative and evaluative texts; and （5） analyzing expository texts in business and econom.cs. A final discussion analyzes both qualitative and quantitative data, including unexpected discoveries such as the salience of cohesion in reading com.rehension and the cultural biases of standardized reading assessm.nts.

This work reports the im.obilization of zinc oxide(ZnO)nanostructures and gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)on cotton fabrics(CFs).The ZnO and AuNPs containing CF com.osite m.terials dem.nstrated excellent photocatalytic activity towards degradation of the m.del organic dye m.lecule.A two-step m.thod was used to first create zinc oxide nanorods(ZnONRs)on the CF ***,these ZnONRs were decorated with cationic polym.r-capped AuNPs to yield the com.osite m.terials.A one-pot synthetic route was developed to synthesize polym.r-capped *** water-soluble cationic polym.rs used here are polyguanidino oxanorbornenes(PGONs)at 20 kDa and polyam.no oxanorbornenes(PAONs)at 20 ***-vis was utilized to m.nitor the com.osite m.terials’photocatalytic activity in degrading m.del organic dye *** the m.terials were characterized by FTIR,UV-visible DRS,SEm.EDX,and *** com.osite m.terials exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity and recyclability in the presence of UV light.

Incorporation of Biochar Carbon into Stable Soil Aggregates:The Role of Clay m.neralogy and Other Soil Characteristics

Aggregation and structure play key roles in water-holding capacity and stability of *** this study,the incorporation of carbon(C) from.switchgrass biochar into stable aggregate size fractions was assessed in an Aridisol(from.Colorado,USA) dom.nated by 2:1 clays and an Alfisol(from.Virginia,USA) containing weathered m.xed 1:1 and 2:1 m.neralogy,to evaluate the effect of biochar addition on soil *** biochar was applied at 4 levels,0,25,50,and 100 g kg^(-1),to the soils grown with wheat in a growth cham.er *** changes in soil strength and water-holding capacity using water release curves were *** the Colorado soil,the proportion of soil occurring in large aggregates decreased,with concom.tant increases in sm.ll size *** changes in aggregate size fractions occurred in the Virginia *** the Colorado soil,C content increased from.3.3 to 16.8 g kg^(-1),whereas in them.fraction C content increased from.5.7 to 22.6 g kg^(-1) with 100 g kg^(-1)biochar *** the Virginia soil,C content within aggregate size fractions increased for each size fraction,except the>2 000 μm.*** greatest increase(from.6.2 to 22.0 g kg^(-1)) occurred in the 53–250 μm.*** results indicated that C was incorporated into larger aggregates in the Virginia soil,but rem.ined largely unassociated to soil particles in the Colorado *** addition had no significant effect on water-holding capacity or strength *** biochar to m.re weathered soils with high native soil organic content m.y result in greater stabilization of incorporated C and result in less loss because of erosion and transport,com.ared with the soils dom.nated by 2:1 clays and low native soil organic content.

本文报告了为创建护理知识网络(Nursing Knowledge Network,NKN)对不同国家护理院校进行环境扫描调查所收集到的信息。采用在线方式(2021年2-10月)进行环境扫描,探索研究领域的确定、现有资源、预期收益、教学研究创新、知识传播障碍及网络的预期贡献。目标信息提供者包括来自13个国家63所大学的200名护理教师。要求每所大学有1名参与者回答问卷。共有42所大学(约70%)回复,包括巴西21所,加拿大4所,葡萄牙和西班牙各3所,哥伦比亚、墨西哥、秘鲁和美国各2所,智利、意大利和巴拉圭各1所。其分享了相关信息和见解:通过护理高等教育机构之间的协作和交流,全球可以加强共同创新和研究合作能力;较少被研究的领域是知识网络生成证据、为当地科学实践提供信息的潜在重点。这些信息将为进一步了解护理发展,以及地方、区域和全球护理证据应用和传播相关的政府政策与计划制订提供参考。

A second-order accurate fluid-in-cell (FLIC) m.thod for the 2D shallow water equations with topography

The fluid-in-cell （FLIC） approach of Gentry et al. （1966） is extended to second-order accuracy in space and applied to solve the 2D shallow water equations with topography. The FLIC m.thod can be interpreted in a finite volum. sense, it therefore conserves both water m.ss and m.m.ntum. Like the original FLIC m.thod the second-order FLIC m.thod presented here is able to handle wetting-drying fronts without any special treatm.nt. m.reover, the resulting m.thod is shock capturing and well-balanced, satisfying both the C- and extended C-properties exactly.
