Chromium is a heavy metal used for various applications such as in the manufacture of stainless steels, in chemicals for wood treatment, in tanneries, and in the refractory industry. The main problem associated with the use of chromium in these activities is the considerable volume of contaminated effluent that requires treatment, mainly due to its high mobility and toxicity in its hexavalent form. Immobilization methods arise as an efficient solution for the treatment of these wastes through converting them into inert and stable materials. The present paper aims to investigate Portland cement II’s paste properties with potassium dichromate addition in order to verify the chromium immobilization process. Analyses of moisture content, water absorption, axial compressive strength, and solubilization were done in samples at 7 and 28 days with 0%;0.5%;1.05;1.5%;2.0% and 2.5% potassium dichromate addition. The results showed the influence of this salt in cement hydration reactions, damaging the mechanical behavior and the water absorption capability of the material produced. In the solubilization test, all compositions had >99% efficiency of chromium immobilization in both ages of hydration, thus demonstrating the capability of a cementitious matrix to stabilize this metal.

Different combinations of essential oils from cinnamon, cloves, oregano, and thyme were evaluated in vitro for their bactericidal activity against enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC). The solutions containing cinnamon (0.03%), oregano (0.16%), and thyme (0.08%) (P1);and clove (0.08%), oregano (0.33%), and thyme (0.04%) (P2), exhibited high bactericidal activity, and were selected for use as preservatives in ground beef inoculated with ETEC and refrigerated. The two preservative solutions (P1 and P2) exhibited significant bactericidal action (p dation was not observed in the samples treated with preservatives. Essential oil mixtures thus concocted are therefore potential preservative candidates in ground beef, as they are capable of controlling ETEC contamination while preserving the products’ coloration.

Copper, in turn, is the most useful material in the field of electricity, especially in electrical contacts. Already, the zinc is the most useful metal in atmospheric exposure conditions which is used in sheet form as castings, but whose most important application is as a coating for corrosion protection of steel structures. Salvador, it has disadvantages as an environment conducive to corrosion, by setting up a wet surface time t4, high corrosive environment （C4）. This work was proposed to study the performance of these metals compared to the effects of air pollution of an industrial site. For both atmospheric corrosion sites （ACS） were implanted natural weathering standard in order to assess the aggressiveness of atmospheric contaminants on the performance of metal specimens （galvanized steel and copper）. In determining their corrosion rates which were analyzed for sulfate and chloride ions, atmospheric, given the proximity of this ACS to the seafront, due to these propitiate the acceleration of corrosion. The results allowed observation that the average local concentration of the sulfate was higher than the chloride, because of the proximity of the pollutant source, and that the corrosion rate of galvanized steel was more significant than 61.5% of copper.

Synthesis, Characterization, and Evaluation of Antitumor Potential in MCF-7 Cells of Ruthenium-Derived Compounds

To synthesize, characterize and evaluate the antitumor potential derived from ruthenium compounds was generated in this study, from the precursor K[RuCl4(bipy)] a route in a simple and reproducible synthesis for a novel compound of coordinating Ru+3 with bipy and L-trip. The spectroscopic characterization in the middle infrared region (FTIR) shows the interactions between Ru-(L-trip), evidenced by the displacement of the carboxylate ion band for higher energies, and also by the displacements of aliphatic amine bands, suggesting that bidentate coordination of the L-trip ligand occurred. Analysis of the results obtained with thermoanalytical techniques showed that the minimum formula of the compound, [RuCl2(bipy)(L-trip)]1/2H2O. Evaluation of the antitumor potential of precursor K[RuCl4(bipy)] showed the toxic effects on MCF-7 cell line, but did not show selectivity and not reached PBMC cells to the same extent. The evaluation of the antitumor potential of the newly synthesized compound, [RuCl2dana;">(bipy)(L-trip)], demonstrated that the insertion of an L-tryptophan molecule into the precursor coordination sphere made it selective when compared to PBMC cells, for MCF-7 type tumor cells.

Objective:As decreasing the duration of untreated psychosis has been highlighted as key indicator in relation to improved prognosis,this study aims to identify the access barriers to beginning early treatment of young people in first-episode psychosis(FEP),based on family reports on the experience of perceiving illness and ***:A qualitative research was carried out with 12 relatives of 12 young people passing through their first psychiatric hospital admission as a result of their *** interviews were used for data collection and thematic content method for data ***:Barriers to beginning treatment were lack of knowledge and difficulty in recognizing mental illness,lack of knowledge on where to seek specialized treatment,and stigma and resistance to psychiatric ***:It was demonstrated that the family members are protagonists in the search for treatment of young people in their FPE,given that the initiative for seeking treatment came from them.
