This present study was designed to evaluate B. dermatitidis antigens, prepared from two isolates (B5896, 597), when the yeast cells were allowed to lyse in distilled water for one day or seven days. The indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the ability of the lysate reagents to detect antibodies in 30 rabbit and 30 dog serum specimens. Mean absorbance values with B5896 lysate antigen ranged from 1.637 (day 1) to 1.461 (day 7) and absorbance values with 597 antigen ranged from 1.579(day 1) to 1.396 (day 7) with the serum specimens from immunized rabbits. Serum specimens from infected dogs yielded absorbance values ranging from 1.672 (day 1) to 1.763 (day 7) with the B5896 and values ranging from 1.909 (day 1) to 1.224 (day 7) with the 597. Optimal reactivity was obtained with the day 1 lysate using both lysate antigens against the rabbit sera and with the 597 antigen against the dog sera. Slightly greater reactivity was evidenced with the day 7 B5896 antigen when the dog sera was tested. Comparative studies are continuing in order to produce an optimal anti-genic preparation for antibody detection in blastomycosis.

Aim: To evaluate the long term effect of experimental cryptorchidism on germ cell apoptotic rate and testicular sperm content in adult rats. Methods: Bilateral cryptorchidism was created in 40 adult male Sprague-Dawley rats by surgically manipulating the testes into the abdominal cavity and closing the internal inguinal ring. The rats were sacrificed and the testes removed 6 hours and 2, 4, 7, 21, 28 and 56 days after cryptorchidism. Germ cell apoptosis was quantified by means of TUNEL assay and apoptosis was confirmed using transmission electron microscopy. Results: The rate of apoptosis peaked at 4 days of cryptorchidism and then progressively declined to a nadir at 14 days of cryptorchidism. At 56 days of cryptorchidism, the germinal epithelium was largely depleted by the apoptotic process and only a few mature sperm were seen within the testis. At this point, a few tubules were seen to be repopulating with primary spermatocytes and the level of germ cell apoptosis began to increase marginally. Testicular sperm count (TSC) began to decline rapidly at day 7 of cryptorchidism. Only a few mature sperm were found in the testes of rats following 56 days of cryptorchidism. Multinucleated giant cells (MGC) were most numerous within the seminiferous tubules at day 4. At day 7, 35 % of MGCs were TUNEL positive. At all subsequent time points, however, MGCs fail to stain positive for apoptosis. This resumption of increased apoptosis coincided with the appearance of a population of primary spermatocytes in some seminiferous tubules. Moreover, there was not a corresponding increase in the number of mature sperm after 56 days of cryptorchidism. Conclusion: The decline in germ cell apoptosis after 4 days of cryptorchidism can be attributed to be the result of an overall depletion of germ cells. Prostate cancer is the most common noncutaneous malignancy of American males and typically presents with genitourinary symptoms, however, head and neck extension is a rare finding. We present a case of a 53-year-old male initially presenting with a large supraclavicular mass as the only complaint. After an initial non-diagnostic FNA biopsy, PSA levels, histology and immunohistochemical findings were consistent with metastatic prostatic adenocarcinoma. The patient was started on anti-hormonal treatment after diagnosis. Due to the increasing reports of such cases, we suggest PSA levels and appropriate immunohistochemical staining should be obtained on all unknown neck masses.

Over the past decade extensive development of advanced high strength steel (AHSS) was driven by the demand from the automotive industry for stronger materials that can enable lightweighting to meet increasing fuel efficiency requirements. However, achievement of higher strength in many AHSS grades comes with reductions in ductility, leading to geometric constraints on formability and limiting their application. In this paper, a 3rd Generation AHSS with a compelling property combination of high tensile strength of ~1200 MPa and total elongation > 40% was used for laboratory and stamping studies. Various auto related laboratory tests were done including tensile testing, 180 degree bending, bulge testing, and cup drawing to estimate the steel’s formability under different applied conditions. Additionally, since laboratory testing provides only an estimation of the potential stamping response, the 3rd Generation AHSS sheet was stamped into B-pillars under industrial stamping conditions. Non-destructive and destructive analysis of the resulting stampings were done to evaluate the microstructural and property changes occurring during stamping. Significant strengthening of material in the stamped part is attributed to the structural changes through the complex Nanophase Refinement and Strengthening mechanism.

序 1980年,在南宁“中国古代铜鼓研究会”成立会上,碰见广东博物馆研究两粤铜鼓的专家何纪生先生(已故),从他手中得见香港秦维廉先生著《香港古石刻》一书,报导香港诸岛石刻的情况和看法,图文并茂,史画契合,看后非常喜悦。当时请他设法买下一册,后来他回信说,广博仅有一本,特复制一册寄上。几年后,香港中文大学人类学研究所乔健先生托友人带来原书惠赠,这次看到原书及书中精彩的照片和墨绘,从对于石刻的描述中看到著者对于岩刻的族属和时代等问题的推断,相当正确,读后深表敬佩。

汉福特场废物罐安全问题的产生在于安全分析不足，以及浓缩阶段放热化学反应（有机溶剂燃烧，有机络合物－硝酸盐反应，亚铁氰化物－硝酸盐反应）期间引起的放射性释放的高度不确定性。解决有机络合物、有机溶剂、亚铁氰化物的安全问题的方法，自１９９０年以来已有很大变更。以前采用罐芯取样及全面分析样品的方法，期望得到的数据能揭示危害的实质。这种方法费用大，而产生的大量数据对解决安全问题的作用很有限。新的方法将着力于认识危害景象，以便集中对那些确保废物安全储存起关键作用的物质进行取样和分析。
