The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel as a rescue regimen in the treatment of patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 20 patients with stage IV non-small-cell lung cancer. The patients had progressive disease after standard antitumor therapy and subsequently received intravenous albumin-bound paclitaxel at the dose of 100 mg/m2 in weekly schedule. Cumulative findings showed that the overall response rate was 30.0%, the disease control rate amounted to 40%, and the 1 year survival rate was 30%. In addition, the median time to progression and the median survival time reached 5 and 10 months, respectively. Meanwhile, no severe hypersensitivity reactions and grade 4 adverse effects were reported. In summary, weekly-administered albumin-bound paclitaxel seems to be an effective and safe regimen for elderly patients with stage IV non-small-cell lung cancer who were refractory to conventional therapy.

Bone metastasis of gastric cancer is relatively uncommon in clinical practice.Moreover,it is all the more unusual for the primary presentation of gastric malignancy to be bone metastasis.Here,we describe a male patient who complained of pain and edema in his right lower extremity.Further assessment by computed tomography and positron emission tomography revealed an abnormally thickened gastric cardia and a giant neoplasm in the right pelvis with bone damage.Consequently,the finding of adenocarcinoma cells in pelvic and cardia biopsy specimens contributed to the diagnosis of pelvic metastasis from gastric cancer.This case report illustrates that stomach cancer has the potential,although far less than breast,prostate and lung cancers,to metastasize to bone.In addition,it highlights the peculiarity of this bone metastasis which is pelvic,solitary and huge.

Gallbladder cancer is the most common malignant tumor of the biliary tract and the fifth most common malignancy of the gastrointestinal tract, In general, metastases of gallbladder carcinoma tends to occur in the regional lymph nodes and liver, while extra-abdominal and blood-borne metastases are relatively infrequent. Here we present an unusual case presenting with scalp metastasis from gallbladder cancer. To the best of our knowledge, only two similar cases have been documented in published literatures.

Objective：To identify and isolate CD133 positive cancer stem-like cells （CD133^＋ cells） from the highly invasive human hepatocellular carcinoma cell Iine（MHCC97H）, and examine their potential for clonogenicity and tumorigenicity. Methods： CD133^＋ and CD133^- cells were isolated from MHCC97H cell line by magnetic bead cell sorting（MACS）, and the potentials of CD133^＋ cells for colony formation and tumorigenicity were evaluated by soft agar cloning and tumor formation following nude mice inoculation. Results：CD133^＋ cells represent a minority（0.5-2.0%） of the tumor cell population with a greater colony-forming efficiency and greater tumor production ability. The colony-forming efficiency of CD133^＋ cells in soft agar was significantly higher than CD133^- cells（36.8 ± 1.4 vs 12.9 ± 0.8, P 〈 0.05）. After 6 weeks, 3/5 mice inoculated with 1 × 10^3 CD133^＋ cells, 4/5 with 1 × 10^4 CD133^＋ cells and 5/5 with 1× 10^5 CD133^＋ cells developed detectable tumors at the injection site, while only one tumor was found in mice treated with same numbers of CD133 cells. Conclusion： CD133 may be a hallmark of liver cancer stem cells （CSC） in human hepatocellular carcinoma（HCC）, because the CD133^＋ cells identified and isolated with anti-CD133 labeled magnetic beads from MHCC97H cell line exhibit high potentials for clonogenicity and tumorigenicity. These CD 133^＋ cells might contribute to hepatocarcinogenesis, as well as the growth and recurrence of human HCC, and therefore may be a useful target for anti-cancer therapy.

Objective： To investigate the antiproliferative and apoptogenic activities of polysaccharides extracted from Dioscorea bulbifera L （DBP） and Chinese Angelica （CAP） and a 3：2 mixture of these compounds （DCCP） on two esophageal carcinoma cell lines, EC9706 and Ecal09. Methods： A MTT assay was used to detect the effects of DBP （10 μg/ml and 100 μg/ml）, DCCP（17 μg/ml and 170 μg/ ml） and CAP （10 μg/ml and 100 μg/ml） on the proliferation of EC9706 and Eca109 cells. DNA content analysis by flow cytometry was used to determine the cell cycle distribution, and Annexin V-FITC/PI stained fluorescence-activated cell sorter （FACS） was used to detect the apotosis rate of treated cells. Western blots were used to examine protein levels. Results： DBP and DCCP strongly inhibited the proliferation and viability of both the EC9706 and Eca109 cells. CAP enhanced the effects of DBP. DCCP primarily arrested the EC9706 and Eca109 cells at the G1 phase of the cell cycle. DCCP induced apoptosis in both esophageal carcinoma cell lines, and reduced the expression of plKBa and Bcl-2 proteins. Conclusion： DCCP triggered apoptosis in esophageal carcinoma cells by inhibiting the NF-KB signaling pathway.

Geochronology and Geochemistry of Metallogenetic Porphyry Bodies from the Nongping Au-Cu Deposit in the Eastern Yanbian Area, NE China: Implications for Metallogenic Environment

The metallogenetic porphyry bodies in the Nongping Au-Cu deposit, in the eastern Yanbian area, mainly include porphyritic granodiorite and biotite granodiorite porphyry. They are featured with high silicon and enrichment in sodium, and classified into sodic rocks of low-K tholeiitic basalt series. Except slightly low Sr content, the rock basically has the geochemical characteristics of the adakite： relatively high A12O3 content, relatively low MgO content, depletion in Y and Yb; relative enrichment in large ion lithophile elements （LILEs） and light rare-earth elements （LREEs）, relatively low content of high field strength elements （HFSEs）; positive Eu anomaly or weak negative Eu anomaly. In situ zircon dating technology LA-MC-ICP-MS was used to conduct single-grain zircon dating of biotite granodiorite porphyry, and the results show that the age of metallogenetic porphyry body is 100.04±0.88 Ma, indicating that the porphyry bodies were emplaced in the late Cretaceous period. According to the regional tectonic setting and the comparison with the same kind of deposits, we think that the metallogenetic porphyry bodies in the Nongping Au-Cu deposit have a close genetic connection with the subduction of the Pacific plate in the late Yanshanian period. The adakitic magma generated from partial melting of the subducting plate has high formation temperature, high oxygen fugacity, and volatile constituents＇ enrichment, so it is helpful for enrichment of metallogenetic elements and plays an important role in the formation of porphyry Au-Cu deposits in this region.

Clinicopathologic significance of CXCR4 and Nrf2 in colorectal cancer

The CXCR4 and Nrf2 signaling pathways are abnormally activated in response to cellular stress in various types of human cancers. In this study, we examined the expression of CXCR4 and Nrf2 in colorectal cancer （CRC） tissue specimens and investigated their correlation with patient clinicopathologic characteristics. We determined CXCR4 and Nrf2 expression in 76 CRC tissue specimens and paired normal tissue specimens by immunohistochemistry and real-time PCR. We found that the protein and mRNA transcript levels of CXCR4 were significantly higher in CRC tissue specimens than in paired normal tissues, while the expressions of Nrf2 protein and mRNA were increased in CRC tissues compared to distant non-cancerous tissues. High expression level of CXCR4 was positively correlated with poorly differentiated （P=0.031）, more advanced tumor-node-metastasis （TNM） stage （P=0.019）, lymph node metastasis （P=0.007） and distant metastasis （P=0.018）. However, the expression of Nrf2 protein was positively correlated with larger tumor size （P=0.049）, more advanced TNM stage （P=0.013）, lymph node metastasis （P=0.016） and distant metastasis （P=0.023）. Moreover, there was a strong relationship between CXCR4 and Nrf2 expression in CRC tissues, indicating that high Nrf2 expression may contribute to CXCR4 overexpression. In addition, combined expression of CXCR4 and Nrf2 strongly correlated with lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis （P=0.003）. Furthermore, we found that combined high expression of CXCR4 and Nrf2 had stronger correlation with lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis than any single molecule did. This study indicated that the abnormal expression of CXCR4 and Nrf2 contributed to the progression of CRC.

This article provides the readers with vivid examples and detailed analysis of how "decadent"aesthetics find expressions in fiction written by Eileen Chang and Qian Zhongshu in occupied Shanghai during the War of Resistance against Japan(1937-1945).The main purpose of this article is to dig into the works of fiction by these two writers to examine the representations and variations of the aesthetics of"decadence".Through detailed textual and intertextual analysis,the aesthetical characteristic of"decadence"can be found in fiction written during the War of Resistance against Japan,which proves that the style of"decadence"was not just confined to the European continent,but was also an international literary movement that had already been spread to China's Mainland.Shrouded in the sinister shadow of the war,which annihilated thousands of lives and resulted in the collapse of the existing social values of that time,fiction writing demonstrated a style of "decadence",effusing ennui and desperation,in which the depiction of the mundane urban life was tinged with an annoying atmosphere of the doomsday.Meanwhile,fiction writing had become a means of escape for writers to assuage the anxieties of living and to dispel the melancholies deep down in their hearts.The deficiency of material life as well as spiritual life together constituted a grotesque atmosphere in which the style of"decadence"could thrive through literary works.Eileen Chang and Qian Zhongshu in occupied Shanghai during the War of Resistance against Japan embraced the advocacy of"art for art's sake"proclaimed by the decadent aesthetes,attaching more subtleties and complexities to their works of fiction with a belief that the literature could correlate to the social atmosphere to which they belonged.Modernism and Realism were miraculously combined together;idealism had been questioned and even discarded,while nihilism and hedonism reared up their ugly heads.

Introduction Accelerator mass spectrometry(AMS)has been used for the analysis of a lot nuclides in many scientific fields and is one of the most optimal methods to determine very low concentrations of long-lived nuclides.The XCAMS system is an extension of the Compact ^(14)C Accelerator Mass Spectrometer for ^(10)Be and ^(26)Al.A description of the first Chinese XCAMS system and initial performance of three nuclides of ^(14)C,^(10)Be,and ^(26)Al,respectively,will be reported.Experimental procedures Solid sample material(graphite,Al_(2)O_(3),and BeO)is loaded into cathode holders for AMS analysis.The negatively charged ions(C−,Al−,and BeO−)are extracted and accelerated to the terminal,broken-up,and some orbital electrons stripped off to form positively charged atomic ions,and accelerated further.In the post-acceleration region,the magnetic and electrostatic devices act on momentum and energy analysis,respectively.A multi-anode detector is used for the identification and detection of relevant isotopes and isobars.System performance The test criteria of three rare isotopes each were set for beam current intensity,measurement precision,and machine background.The corresponding material and cathode holder were,respectively,used for ^(14)C,^(10)Be,and ^(26)Al test.Several batches of real sample have already been analyzed by the new AMS system based on the acceptance test results.In addition,several secondary standards were measured to check the stability of the system.Conclusion The new XCAMS facility has been installed successfully,and the latest performance also showed that the machine is reliable enough,in general.Both the hardware components and software system were in good condition for accurate and precise data analysis in the near future.
