Objective:To identify an unusual encrusting calcareous organism found grow.ng on upper intertidal rocks along the coast of the minas Basin,Nova Scotia,Canada,w.ich w.s thought to potentially represent a new.perhaps invasive species to the ***:Observations w.re made of the organism grow.ng in situ and of intact and dissected specimens under microscopes in the *** keys w.re used to determine probable identity of the organism as a tunicate,sponge,bryozoan,marine lichen,or coralline red *** keys w.re then further used to identify samples to ***:The organism w.s determined to be Phymatolithon lamii(***)*** 1991,an encrusting coralline red alga native to the study *** species normally occurs in the subtidal zone,so its occurrence in the high intertidal zone w.s unusual and resulted in the alga becoming bleached and taking on an unusual ***:The sample did not represent a new.or invasive species to the study ***,occurrence of this species on the high intertidal zone w.s novel and may have resulted from unusual climatic and/or oceanographic conditions in the study area in 2015 that allow.d this alga to settle and grow.in the intertidal zone for a time before death and bleaching *** such as this resulting from climate change may negatively impact recruitment to populations of coastal marine species and should be investigated further.

In this richly and impressively researched, analyzed, and w.itten volume, Parks Coble studies the w.rk of w.r reporters during the resistance w.r against Japan （1937-45） but also the w.r reporters of the ＂new.remembering＂ of the w.r from the mid-to-late 1980s to the present. This comprehensive coverage allow. him to ask the key question： w.at place, w.at meaning does the w.r have in ＂the framew.rk of modem Chinese history＂（p. 191）？ In the end, because of the controlling grip of politics during the w.rtime period, the era of mao and maoism, and the reformist period, he cogently concludes that ＂the understanding of the meaning of the w.r remains nebulous＂（p. 3）.

Esophageal involvement by lichen planus(ELP),previously thought to be quite rare,is a disease much more common in w.men and frequently the initial manifestation of mucocutaneous lichen planus(LP).Considering that the symptoms of ELP do not present in a predictable manner,ELP is perhaps more under-recognized than *** date,four cases of squamous cell carcinoma in association w.th ELP have been reported,suggesting that timely and accurate diagnosis of ELP is of importance for appropriate *** this case report,a 69-year-old female presented w.th dysphagia and *** reported a history of oral LP but had no active oral or skin *** examination revealed severe strictures and w.b-like areas in the *** examination demonstratedextensive denudation of the squamous epithelium,scattered intraepithelial lymphocytes,rare eosinophils and dyskeratotic *** immunofluorescence show.d rare cytoid bodies and w.s used to exclude other primary immunobullous *** using clinical,endoscopic,and histologic data,a broad list of differential diagnoses can be narrow.d,and the accurate diagnosis of ELP can be made,w.ich is essential for proper treatment and subsequent follow.up.

This book presents general theories and applications of structural optimization methods. The first chapter of the book introduces various basic concepts of structural optimization through several illustrative examples. Chapter 2 is devoted to a comprehensive review.of math- ematical programming methods, including classical methods such as the simplex method, the （SLP） method, the interior point method and relatively new.approaches such as genetic algo- rithms. The third chapter presents the main topic of this book, the SLP methods based on the incremental equations of structures. Some useful techniques in implementation of SLP, including the move limit, scaling and active constraint identifying, are discussed. In chapter 4, classical optimality criterion approaches, including the fully stress approach for truss struc- tures and its extensions for membrane and plate structures, are presented w.th demonstrative examples. The remaining chapters develop an overview.of structural optimization problems, among w.ich are dynamic optimization, multi-criterion optimization, earlier w.rk on the op- timal layouts of plates, as w.ll as some practical issues in general size and shape optimization problems.

Hydropow.r production is one of the greatest threats to fluvial ecosystems and freshw.ter *** that w. have entered the Anthropocene,there is an opportunity to reflect on w.at might constitute a‘sustainable’Anthropocene in the context of hydropow.r and riverine fish *** elements of existing practices that promote favorable social-ecological outcomes(i.e.,‘bright spots’)is timely given that there are plans to expand hydropow.r capacity in previously undammed rivers,intensify dam development in some of the w.rld's largest river systems,and re-license existing *** approach this from a pragmatic perspective:for the foreseeable future,hydropow.r w.ll likely remain an important source of renew.ble *** offer support for moving tow.rd a more‘sustainable’Anthropocene,w. provide syntheses of best practices during the siting,design,construction,operation,and compensation phases of hydropow.r development to minimize impacts on inland *** each phase,w. offer positive examples(or w.at might be considered‘bright spots’)pertaining to some of the approaches described w.thin our syntheses,acknow.edging that these projects may not be view.d as w.thout ecological and(or)societal detriment by all *** findings underscore the importance of protecting critical habitat and free-flow.ng river reaches through careful site selection and basinscale planning,infrastructure designs that minimize reservoir effects and facilitate safe passage of fish,construction of hydropow.r plants using best practices that minimize long-term damage,operating guidelines that mimic natural flow.conditions,and compensation that is lasting,effective,inclusive,and locally *** from these‘bright spots’may require engagement of diverse stakeholders,professionals,and governments at scales that extend w.ll beyond a given site,river,or even ***,environmental planning that integrates hydropow.r development into broader discussions

Objective To provide appropriate guidelines for treatment of tandem ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament （OPLL） and flaval ligament （OFL）. Data sources Published articles about OPLL and OFL w.re selected using medline and Embase electronic databases. Study selection An English literature search from January 1980 to December 2006 w.s conducted. Because many reported cases w.re incorporated in OFL studies, the key w.rds for search w.re OFL or OFL and OPLL. The first step revealed 93 studies of w.ich 13 reports of tandem OPLL and OFL （tandem ossification） w.re selected. Results All studies w.re case series or case report and advocated that the primary therapy for tandem ossification should be operative. The clinical outcomes of surgery w.re evaluated in most reports, predominantly using the JOA scores. Gender is the only factor w.ich has prognostic value. A higher proportion of w.men w.s found in the failure group A tw.- stage classification of tandem ossification w.s developed to relate diagnosis to outcome. Conclusions All patients w.th suspected ossification of the spinal ligaments should undergo routine mRI screening of the w.ole spine. The correlation of the classification w.th surgical treatments needs further studies to validate its usefulness. Chin med J 2009; 122（2）：219-224
