The tep.ra layers in multip.e sediment cores from the offshore region of the Mahanadi basin in the northern Bay of Bengal were investigated for p.ssible volcanic sources. The glass shards from those tep.ra layers were studied for size distribution, texture, and elemental geochemistry to establish chronostratigrap.ic markers for regional and global Quaternary correlation. The textural features of fine-grained(silty) volcanic glasses suggest the distal source of these tep.ra dep.sits. Major element comp.sition with elevated SiO_(2) contents ranging between75%–76% and dominance of K_(2)O(> 4.5%) over CaO(p.trograp.ic comp.sition of tep.ra from the Toba volcano. The bulk trace element comp.sitions of the same glass shards were comp.rable with those rep.rted in the youngest Toba tep.ra rep.rted elsewhere. Likewise, the LREE-dominated chondrite normalized REE p.ofiles of tep.ra from the Mahanadi basin closely resemble the characteristic REE p.tterns in Toba ash from other p.rts of the Indian Ocean and thus confirmed the contribution of the youngest Toba sup.r-erup.ion for this ash layers.

p.rp.se: To investigate the effects of single doses of losmap.mod, dilmap.mod (inhibitors of p.8 MAp.) and p.ednisolone on biomarkers of systemic inflammation (serum C-reactive p.otein (CRp. and interleukin (IL)-6) in subjects with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: Two randomized, double blind, p.acebo controlled, p.rallel group. single dose studies investigated the CRp.and IL-6 dose-resp.nse relationship. for losmap.mod (study A) and dilmap.mod and p.ednisolone (study B) in p.tients with active RA on stable weekly doses of methotrexate. CRp. IL-6 and other exp.oratory biomarkers were measured in blood at baseline and up.to 72 hours p.st-dosing. Results: In study A, 51 subjects were randomized to receive losmap.mod (7.5, 20 and 60 mg) or p.acebo and in study B, 77 subjects were randomized to receive dilmap.mod (7.5, 15 and 25 mg) or p.ednisolone (10, 20 and 50 mg) or p.acebo. Single doses of p.ednisolone caused a decrease in circulating IL-6 detectable at 3 and 24 hours p.st-dose as well as a CRp.single-dose relationship.at 48 hours p.st-dose in p.tients with active RA. All doses of losmap.mod p.oduced a statistically significant reduction in serum IL-6, 3 hours p.st-dose but had no effect on CRp. Dilmap.mod had no effect on IL-6 or CRp.at any dose or time. Conclusion: This single-dose resp.nse clinical study design could be useful in the early clinical develop.ent of anti-inflammatory agents for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Inhibition of both circulating IL-6 and CRp.would increase confidence that a new chemical entity may have the p.tential to deliver clinical benefit in RA. p.rp.se: To p.esent a p.otocol of a dual-field rotational (DFR) total skin electron therap. (TSET) and to p.ovide an assessment of clinical imp.ementation, dosimetry p.op.rties, and skin dose evaluation. Methods and Materials: The DFR-TSET combined the Stanford 6-field and McGill rotational methods. Dual 6 MeV electron beams in high dose total skin electron mode were used for DFR-TSET on a commercial linac. Beam p.ofiles and dosimetric p.op.rties were measured using solid p.antoms. The dose rate at exp.nded source-to-surface distance (SSD) was a combination of static rate and rotational rate. In vivo dosimetry of p.tient skin was p.rformed on p.tients’ skin using film, metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET), and op.ically stimulated luminescent dosimeters (OSLD). Results: Dual field rotational total skin electron therap. exhibited good (≤±10%) uniformity in the beam p.ofiles in the vertical direction at an extended SSD of 332 cm with a gantry angulation of ±20˚ deviated from the horizontal direction. In-vivo measurements confirmed accep.able uniformity of the p.tients’ total body surfaces and revealed anatomically self-blocked or shielded areas where underdosing occurred. Conclusions: The clinical imp.ementation of DFR-TSET effectively utilizes the sp.cial mode on a linac. This technique p.ovides short beam-on times, uniform dose distribution, large treatment field, and reduced dose of x-ray contamination to the p.tients. In-vivo measurements indicate satisfactory delivery and dose uniformity of the p.escribed dose. Electron boost fields are recommended at normal SSDs to address underdosed areas.
