Synchrotron micro-scale measurement of metal distributions in Phragmites australis and Typha latifolia root tissue from an urban brownfield site

Liberty State Park in New Jersey,USA,is a ＂brownfield＂ site containing various levels of *** investigate metal uptake and distributions in plants on the brownfield site,Phragmites australis and Typha latifolia were collected in Liberty State Park during the growing season（May–September）in 2011 at two sites with the high and low metal loads,*** objective of this study was to understand the metal（Fe,Mn,Cu,Pb and Zn）concentration and spatial distributions in *** and *** root systems with micro-meter scale resolution using synchrotron X-ray microfluorescence（μXRF）and synchrotron X-ray computed microtomography（μCMT）*** root structure measurement by synchrotron μCMT showed that high X-ray attenuation substance appeared in the *** μXRF measurement showed that metal concentrations and distributions in the root cross-section between epidermis and vascular tissue were statistically *** correlations were found between metals（Cu,Mn,Pb and Zn）and Fe in the epidermis,implying that metals were scavenged by Fe *** results from this study suggest that the expression of metal transport and accumulation within the root systems may be element *** information derived from this study can improve our current knowledge of the wetland plant ecological function in brownfield remediation.

Cardiac Remote Conditioning and Clinical Relevance:All Together Now!

Acute myocardial infarction （AMI） is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Timely reperfusion is the standard of care and results in decreased infarct size, improving patient survival and prognosis. However, 25% of patients proceed to develop heart failure （HF） after myocardial infarction （MI） and 50% of these will die within five years. Since the size of the infarct is the major predictor of the outcome, including the development of HF, therapies to improve myocardial salvage have great potential. Over the past three decades, a number of stimuli have been discovered that activate endogenous cardioprotective pathways. In ischemic preconditioning （IPC） and ischemic postconditioning, ischemia within the heart initiates the protection. Brief reversible episodes of ischemia in vascular beds remote from the heart can also trigger cardioprotection when applied before, during, or immediately after myocardial ischemia-- known as remote ischemic pre-, per-, and post-conditioning, respectively. Although the mechanism of remote ischemic preconditioning （RIPC） has not yet been fully elucidated, many mechanistic components are shared with IPC. The discovery of RIPC led to research into the use of remote non-ischemic stimuli including nerve stimulation （spinal and vagal）, and electroacupuncture （EA）. We discovered and, with others, have elucidated mechanistic aspects of a non- ischemic phenomenon we termed remote preconditioning of trauma （RPCT）. RPCT operates via neural stimulation of skin sensory nerves and has similarities and differences to nerve stimulation and EA conducted at acupoints. We show herein that RPCT can be mimicked using electrical stimulation of the abdominal midline （EA-like treatment） and that this modality of activating cardioprotection is powerful as both a preconditioning and a postconditioning stimulus （when applied at reperfusion）. Investigations of these cardioprotective phenomena have led to a more integrative understanding of mechanisms

＜正＞ The interpretation of magnetic field data at low magnetic latitudes is difficult because the vector nature of the magnetic field increases the complexity of anomalies from magnetic rocks. The most obvious approach to this problem is to reduce the data to the magnetic pole, where the presumably vertical magnetization vector will simplify observed anomalies. However, RTP requires special treatment of North-South features in data observed in low magnetic latitudes due to high amplitude corrections of these features. Furthermore, RTP requires the assumption of induced magnetization with the result that anomalies from remanently and anisotropically magnetized bodies can be severely *** amplitude of the 3-D analytic signal of the total magnetic field produces maxima over magnetic contacts regardless of the direction of magnetization. The absence of magnetization direction in the shape of analytic signal anomalies is a particularly attractive characteristic for the interpretation of magnetic field data near the magnetic equator. Although the amplitude of the analytic signal is dependent on magnetization strength and the direction of geologic strike with respect to the magnetization vector, this dependency is easier to deal with in the interpretation of analytic signal amplitude than in the original total field data or pole reduced magnetic field. It is also straight forward to determine the depth to sources from the distance between inflection points of analytic signal anomalies.

Two virtual joint centers for nitrogen agronomy were established between the UK and China to facilitate collaborative research aimed at improving nitrogen use efficiency(NUE)in agricultural production systems and reducing losses of reactive N to the *** focus areas were improving fertilizer NUE,use of livestock manures,soil health,and policy development and knowledge *** to fertilizer NUE included attention to application rate in the context of yield potential and economic considerations and the potential of improved practices including enhanced efficiency fertilizers,plastic film mulching and cropping *** utilization of livestock manures requires knowledge of the available nutrient content,appropriate manure processing technologies and integrated nutrient management *** carbon,acidification and biodiversity were considered as important aspects of soil *** centers identified a range of potential actions that could be taken to improve N management,and the research conducted has highlighted the importance of developing a systemslevel approach to assessing improvement in the overall efficiency of N management and avoiding unintended secondary effects from individual *** this context,the management of fertilizer emissions and livestock manure at the farm and regional scales appear to be particularly important targets for mitigation.

目的 AV-1451是;F标记的正电子核素显像剂,;F-AV-1451可与成对螺旋丝状的tau蛋白（PHF-tau）结合,而tau蛋白与阿尔茨海默病的病理机制有关。对650例认知正常的对象进行AV-1451显像的过程中,偶然发现1例脑膜瘤患者的病灶可显著摄取AV-1451。因此,对该650例研究对象进行回顾性分析,以总结其中的脑膜瘤患者病灶对AV-1451的摄取特点。方法经回顾性分析确诊,650例研究对象中有脑膜瘤患者12例,对其PET/CT显像和MRI图像重新读片,并对PET图像进行半定量分析。本底和肿瘤组织的标准摄取值（SUV）采用配对t检验进行统计分析,AV-1451的摄取与CT图像上钙化灶的出现的关系采用确切概率法进行分析。结果 12例脑膜瘤患者中,7例（58%）经视觉分析及计算肿瘤与正常皮质比值（T/N=1.90±0.83）均发现病灶对AV-1451的摄取高于本底。t检验提示本底和肿瘤组织的SUV差异无统计学意义,但在T/N大于1的患者中,其病灶对AV-1451的摄取增高差异有统计学意义（P=0.01）。AV-1451摄取增高与钙化灶的出现明显相关。结论使用AV-1451行PET显像时,应对PET和解剖影像学图像同时读片,以避免将脑膜瘤对AV-1451的摄取误读为PHF-tau蛋白的聚集。
