A Study on Relationship among Blade Camber Direction and Pitch Angle and Performance of a Small Straight-Blade Darrieus Wind Turbine by Using Scale Test Model and Gurney Flap

Straight-blade Darrieus vertical axis wind turbines are used as medium and small size wind turbine because of higher power output in vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT). In our previous study, the relationship between the performance and Reynolds number based on airfoil chord length had been investigated by using small-scale test models of lift-type VAWT, and the results showed that the performance of tested wind turbine models with small diameter was clearly lower than that of the large-scale field test machine, and its performance also varies significantly with the blade pitch angle. In this study, we focused on the performance of a small-scale straight-blade Darrieus VAWT, the relationship among the blade airfoil camber direction and the pitch angle, and the performance of the small-scale VAWT was examined experimentally by using a small-scale VAWT test model with Gurney flap which was a small flat plate. Gurney flaps with its height h, as a ratio to the blade chord length c, h/c = 0.036 to 0.055, were attached to the blades of the VAWT test model, in addition, the attaching direction of the Gurney flap on the blade was examined for both inward and outward of the rotor, and the pitch angle was also examined for a range of −5 to 10 degrees. These results are discussed comparing with the result of the VAWT without Gurney flap and considering the numerical results for the single blade with/without the Gurney flap. The results showed that the performance of the tested VAWT was reversed between the inward and outward Gurney flaps around a pitch angle of 10 degrees. That is, the inward Gurney flap was superior at a pitch angle of less than 10 degrees, while the outward Gurney flap was effective at a pitch angle of more than 10 degrees. Impact of postoperative sexual function on health-related quality of life after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy

Background:We investigated potential disparities in health-related quality of life,particularly concerning urinary function,between patients with preserved and those with impaired sexual function after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy(RARP).Materials and methods:BetweenDecember 2012 and April 2020,704men underwent RARP in our *** study included 155 patients with a preoperative 5-item International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5)of≥12 points and an assessable IIEF-5 at 12 months ***-related quality of life was assessed using the 8-item Short-Form Health Survey and Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite(EPIC)preoperatively and at 3,6,and 12months postoperatively.A logistic regression analysis andWilcoxon rank sum tests were ***:Patients were grouped according to the median IIEF-5 score 12 months after surgery:those with preserved sexual function(n=71)and those with impaired sexual function(n=84).The mental component summary of the 8-item Short-Form Health Survey was better in the group with preserved sexual function at 6 months postoperatively than in the group with impaired sexual function(p<0.01).In the EPIC,the group with preserved sexual function performed better not only in the sexual domain but also in the urinary domain at all time points comparedwith the groupwith impaired sexual function(p<0.01).In the comparison of the urinary subdomains of the EPIC,there were no significant differences in urinary function or incontinence,but there were significant differences in urinary distress and irritative/obstructive scores(p<0.01).Conclusions:Patients with preserved postoperative sexual function after RARP showed better urinary function than those with impaired sexual ***,preserved sexual function is closely associated with urinary function.

Retroperitoneal disorders associated with Ig G4-related autoimmune pancreatitis

Ig G4-related autoimmune pancreatitis is frequently accompanied by relevant lesions in the genitourinary tract and retroperitoneal organs, which cause various clinical problems, ranging from non-specific back pain or bladder outlet obstruction to renal failure. The diagnosis of Ig G4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis requires a multidisciplinary approach, including serological tests, histological examination, imaging analysis, and susceptibility to steroid therapy. Radiological examinations are helpful to diagnose this condition, but surgical resection is occasionally unavoidable to exclude malignancy, particularly for patients with isolated retroperitoneal involvement. Steroid therapy is the treatment of choice for this condition, the same as for other manifestationsof Ig G4-related *** patients with severe ureteral obstruction,additional ureteral stenting needs to be considered prior to steroid therapy to preserve the renal *** papers have suggested that Ig G4-related disease can affect male reproductive organs including the prostate and *** G4-related prostatitis usually causes lower urinary tract symptoms,such as dysuria and *** sometimes state that corticosteroids given for Ig G4-related disease at other sites relieve their lower urinary tract symptoms,which leads us to suspect prostatic involvement in this *** of the limited number of publications available,further studies are warranted to better characterize Ig G4-related disease in male reproductive organs.

Dear Editor,Most of the plant hormones found in flowering plants contribute to growth regulation in the moss Physcomitrella patens. This moss does not produce gibberellin （GA）（Figure 1A）. An ent-kaurene synthase （PpCPS/KS） and an ent-kaurene oxidase （PpKO） have been identified in P. patens, but in contrast to flowering plants, P. patens has no ent-kaurenoic acid oxidase （KAO） homologs （Hayashi et al., 2010; Miyazaki et al., 2011, Fiqure 1A）.

Mineral sulphide-lime reactions and effect of CaO/C mole ratio during carbothermic reduction of complex mineral sulphides

Mineral sulphide （MS）-lime （CaO） ion exchange reactions （MS ＋ CaO = MO ＋ CaS） and the effect of CaO/C mole ratio during carbothermic reduction （MS ＋ CaO ＋ C = M ＋ CaS ＋ CO（g）） were investigated for complex froth flotation mineral sulphide concentrates. Phases in the partially and fully reacted samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction （XRD） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The primary phases during mineral sulphide-lime ion exchange reactions are Fe304, CaSO4 Cu2S, and CaS. A complex liquid phase of Ca2CuFeO3S forms during mineral sulphide-lime exchange reactions above 1173 K. The formation mechanisms of Ca2CuFeO3S liquid phase are determined by characterising the partially reacted samples. The reduction rate and extent of mineral sulphides in the presence of CaO and C increase with the increase in CaO/C ratio. The metallic phases are surrounded by the CaS rich phase at CaO/C 〉 1, but the metallic phases and CaS are found as separate phases at CaO/C 〈 1. Experimental results show that the stoichiometric ratio of carbon should be slightly higher than that of CaO. The reactions between CaO and gangue minerals （SiO2 and A1203） are only observed at CaO/C 〉 1 and the reacted samples are excessively sintered.

Unsteady Behavior of Leading-edge Vortex and Diffuser Stall in a Centrifugal Compressor with Vaned Diffuser

The characteristics of a rotating stall of an impeller and diffuser and the evolution of a vortex generated at the diffuser leading-edge(i.e., the leading-edge vortex(LEV)) in a centrifugal compressor were investigated by experiments and numerical analysis. The results of the experiments revealed that both the impeller and diffuser rotating stalls occurred at 55 and 25 Hz during off-design flow operation. For both, stall cells existed only on the shroud side of the flow passages, which is very close to the source location of the LEV. According to the CFD results, the LEV is made up of multiple vortices. The LEV is a combination of a separated vortex near the leading-edge and a longitudinal vortex generated by the extended tip-leakage flow from the impeller. Therefore, the LEV is generated by the accumulation of vorticity caused by the velocity gradient of the impeller discharge flow. In partial-flow operation, the spanwise extent and the position of the LEV origin are temporarily transmuted. The LEV develops with a drop in the velocity in the diffuser passage and forms a significant blockage within the diffuser passage. Therefore, the LEV may be regarded as being one of the causes of a diffuser stall in a centrifugal compressor.
