Overexpression of β3/γ2 chains of laminin-5 and MMP7 in biliary cancer

AIM： To clarify the clinicopathological significance of laminin-5 y2 （LNγ2） and 133 （LNI33） chains and MMP7 expression in biliary tract cancer. METHODS： We analyzed the association between immunohistochemically detected LNγ2, LNβ3, and MMP7 expression in biliary tract cancer and clinicopathological characteristics. Activity of MMP7 was analyzed by casein zymography. An in vitro invasion assay after treatment with MMP7-specific siRNA was performed. RESULTS： LNγ2 expression was predominantly observed in carcinoma cells at the invasive front. LNγ2 expression was seen in 57% of patients with biliary tract cancer, and was associated with depth of invasion, histologic type, and advanced stage. The expression pattern of LNβ3 was classified Into two types： invasive front dominant type （38%） and diffuse type （28%）.The invasive front dominant type was associated with histologic type and advanced stage. MMP7 positivity was correlated with LNγ2 or LNβ3 expression but not with clinicopathological characteristics. Active MMP7 detected by casein zymography was correlated with depth of invasion and advanced stage. Downregulation of MMP7 expression by siRNA resulted in a significant decrease in biliary tract cancer cell invasion in ***： Our results suggest that LNγ2 and LNβ3, in conjunction with MMP7, play a key role in the progression of biliary tract cancer.

AIM To determine the clinical characteristics of elderly patients of hemorrhagic gastroduodenal ulcer on low-dose aspirin(LDA)*** A total of 1105 patients with hemorrhagic gastroduodenal ulcer treated in our hospital between January 2000 and March 2016 were grouped by age and drugs used,and these groups were compared in several *** groups were compared in terms of length of hospital stay,presence/absence of hemoglobin(Hb)decrease,presence/absence of blood transfusion,Forrest Ⅰ,percentage of Helicobacter pylori infection,presence/absence of underlying disease,and percentage of severe *** The percentage of blood transfusion(62.6%vs 47.7%,P<0.001),Hb decrease(53.8% vs 40.8%,P<0.001),and the length of hospital stay(23.5 d vs 16.7 d,P<0.001)were significantly greater in those on drug *** percentage of blood transfusion(65.3%vs 47.8%,P<0.001),Hb decrease(54.2%vs 42.1%,P<0.001),and length of hospital stay(23.3 d vs 17.5 d,P<0.001)were significantly greater in the *** comparison with the LDA monotherapy group,the percentage of severe cases was significantly higher in the LDA combination therapy group when elderly patients were concerned(16.1%vs34.0%,P=0.030).Meanwhile,among those on LDA monotherapy,there was no significant difference between elderly and non-elderly(16.1%vs 16.0%,P=0.985).CONCLUSION A combination of LDA with antithrombotic drugs or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs)contributes to *** advanced age is not an aggravating factor when LDA monotherapy is used.

Mortality rate of gastric cancer in Japan had been the highest in the *** of early detection and effective treatment was the most important social *** the early detection,Japan developed 'double contrast X-ray','endoscopy and endoscopic biopsy',and 'mass screening system'.The Japanese nationwide registry collected data of 273,142 gastric cancer patients in the last 30 *** the efforts of early detection,proportion of Stage I cancer increased from 22.5% to 58.1% in the *** 5 year survival rate of resected cases was improved from 37.5%(1962) to 68.8%(1991).Improvement was remarkable for Stage-II;from 47.7% to 70.3%,and for Stage-III,from 26.4% to 45.0%.

To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a procedure comprising a combination of Percoll continuous density gradient and modified swim-up techniques for the removal of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 （HIV-1） from the semen of HIV-1 infected males, a total of 129 couples with an HIV-1 positive male partner and an HIV-1 negative female partner （serodiscordant couples） who were treated at Keio University Hospital between January 2002 and April 2012 were examined. A total of 183 ejaculates from 129 HIV-1 infected males were processed. After swim-up, we successfully collected motile sperms at a recovery rate as high as 100.0% in cases of normozoospermia （126/126 ejaculates）, oligozoospermia （6/6）, and asthenozoospermia （36/36）. The recovery rate of oligoasthenozoospermia was 86.7% （13/15）. In processed semen only four ejaculates （4/181：2.2%） showed viral nucleotide sequences consistent with those in the blood of the infected males. After using these sperms, no horizontal infections of the female patients and no vertical infections of the newborns were observed. Furthermore, no obvious adverse effects were observed in the offspring. This protocol allowed us to collect HIV-1 negative motile sperms at a high rate, even in male factor cases. We concluded that our protocol is clinically effective both for decreasing HIV-1 infections and for yielding a healthy child.

In recent years, PV （photovoltaic） systems have been installed rapidly around the world. However, there is often a delay in the practical application of fault detection in PV systems. In this study, the temperature of BD （bypass diodes） mounted on PV modules was measured for simple and practical fault detection. The temperature of the BD of Module 31 was higher than other modules and a large current passed through one of the BDs. Measuring BD temperatures is easier than other conventional methods of fault detection. From the results of the rise in BD temperature under dark conditions, the increase in temperature increased linearly with increasing current flow. There is a proportional relationship between heat generated and the increasing temperature of the terminal box. The experimental results about surface temperature of the junction box in actual system operation suggested that the electric current through a BD in a terminal box can be known by measuring the surface temperature of the terminal box for PV module fault detection without a system shutdown. Moreover, we tried to evaluate temperature distribution of a terminal box using heat conduction equations. The evaluated results agreed well with the measured results.

Although it is well known that cloud cavitation shows unsteady behavior with the growing motion of an attached cavity, the shedding motion of a cloud, the collapsing motion of the cloud shed downstream and a reentrant motion in flow fields such as on a 2-D hydrofoil and in a convergent- divergent channel with a rectangular cross-section, observations for the periodic behavior of cloud cavitation in a cylindrical nozzle with a convergent-divergent part, which is mainly used in an industrial field, have hardly been conducted. From engineering viewpoints, it is important to elucidate the mechanism of periodic cavitation behavior in a cylindrical nozzle. In this study, a high-speed observation technique with an image analysis technique was applied to the cloud cavitation behavior in the nozzle to make clear the mechanism of unsteady behavior. As a result, it was observed in the nozzle that the periodic behavior occurs in the cloud cavitation and pressure waves form at the collapse of clouds shed downstream. Also, it was found through the image analysis based on the present technique that the pressure wave plays a role as a trigger mechanism to cause a reentrant motion at the downstream end of an attached cavity.

We reported previously the idea to improve reflection-ability of a magnetic mirror by installing a cyclotron resonance space in the front part of the mirror. However, since the previous analysis was insufficient from the examination after that, we complement the following two things in this work: 1) A simpler procedure of design to make a supplemental magnetic mirror with the simplest magnetic configuration, compared with the procedure reported previously. 2) A peculiar characteristic arising only in reflection of a nonrelativistic charged particle (a deuteron ion).

A Method for the Detection of Decrease in Power in PV Systems Using Satellite Data

In this paper, a method to detect a decrease in the output power of photovoltaic systems is proposed. This method is based on using satellite irradiance data. In addition, fault detection is carried out with only one day’s data in this method. Thus, the time elapses since the decrease in output is shorter than with the other methods. In order to mitigate the error in satellite data and improve the accuracy of fault detection, data extraction is carried out, which consists of two steps. In the first step, effective data are extracted by setting a lower irradiance limit. In the second step, “Calculation day” is determined depending on the number of effective data in one day. Fault detection, which is only conducted on the Calculation day, is conducted by comparing the expected power and the measured power. The parameters used in this study were optimized by testing 45 systems that appear normal. Subsequently, 340 systems were analyzed with the proposed method, using optimized parameters. The results showed the effectiveness of our method from the viewpoints of both accuracy and time required. In addition, three data extraction methods were considered to distinguish between the permanent decrease caused by failure, and the temporary decrease caused by partial shade. Fuzzy cluster analysis showed the best result among the three methods used.
