Background:The extract of Newbouldia laevis has been demonstrated to show antioxidant,antimicrobial,sedative,anticonvulsant,analgesic,anti-inflammatory,antinociceptive,hepatoprotective,anticancer,antiulcer,antihypertensive and antidiarrhea ***,its reproprotective effect is not well *** present study was designed to investigate the ameliorative effect of Newbouldia laevis in cadmium-induced ovarian ***:Adult female Wistar rats were randomly allotted into groups;Vehicle(received distilled water),cadmium-treated(received 5 mg/kg b.w.),***-treated(received 200 mg/kg b.w.)and cadmium+***-treated *** sulphate was administered for 3 days(i.p.)followed by oral administration of *** for 28 *** body weight change was monitored using animal weighing balance(Olympia sCL66110 model,Kent scientific Corporation,Torrington,CT06790,UsA),biochemical assay and histology of ovaries were performed as previously ***:The results showed weight loss,severe disruption of ovarian follicles and significant reduction of gonadotropic hormones(FsH and LH)in cadmium-treated group compared with vehicle-treated *** alterations were not associated with inflammatory ***,concomitant administration of aqueous extract of *** and cadmium sulphate significantly ameliorated ovarian ***:The study demonstrates that administration of aqueous extract of *** during treatment with cadmium sulphate preserves ovarian function,suggesting that possibly daily intake of aqueous extract of *** prevents the onset of ovarian disorders.

Green hydrogen production from photovoltaic power station as a road map to climate change mitigation

The increasing recognition of hydrogen as a critical element in the global net-zero transition and its clear role in decarbonizing challenging sectors coincide with the growing urgency to address climate ***'s favourable renewable-energy capacity,ranging from 28%to 36%for solar,has been reported by the global solar irradiance ***,the majority of hydrogen production today relies on fossil fuels(96%),with only a small fraction(4%)being produced through water *** though there have been many studies on climate change mitigation with a focus on Africa,a green hydrogen production from a photovoltaic power station approach has not been ***,literature with a focus on Nigeria is *** study focuses on the African green hydrogen production industry,utilizing Nigeria as a case study to explore the feasibility of generating clean hydrogen vectors from a percentage of photovoltaic power output in various regions of the country through stand-alone solar grid electrification *** of the usage and effectiveness of the produced hydrogen fuel in each region are carried out,with the highest region having an annual output of 12247278 kg of green hydrogen and 8573094 kg of ammonia and the lowest region having an output of 511245 kg of green hydrogen and 357871 kg of ammonia,and the expected production from the proposed usage of 50%of the power generation output of the installed 1.6-MWp and 80-kWp solar power minigrids in the regions is *** analyses were repeated for the other considered regions in the *** results showcased the enormous advantages of the electrolytic production of hydrogen and how the greener economy project can play a major role in mitigating climate change effects and overreliance on fossil fuels as the driver of the economy in many African countries.

Climate Change Effects on Employment in the Nigeria's Agricultural sector

Climate change poses mounting risks to agricultural development and rural livelihoods in *** study investigates the impacts of climate change on agricultural sector employment in Nigeria. Agriculture provides income and sustenance for much of Nigeria’s rural ***, smallholder rain-fed farming predominates, with minimal resilience to climate *** data reveal rising temperatures and declining, erratic rainfall across Nigeria’s agroecological zones since the 1970s. Crop modeling predicts further climate changes will reduce yields of key staple crops. This threatens the viability of smallholder agriculture and risks widespread job losses. The study adopts a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag(NARDL)modeling approach to evaluate climate change effects on agricultural sector employment in Nigeria from 1990 to 2020. Findings reveal reduced rainfall initially raises employment, as farming requires more labor in dry conditions. However, protracted droughts significantly reduce agricultural jobs. Increased temperatures consistently lower farm employment through reduced yields and incomes. Based on these findings, the study recommends that adaptive strategies are urgently needed to build resilience, promote climate-smart agriculture, and safeguard rural livelihoods.

A Preliminary Feasibility study on Wind Resource and Assessment of a Novel Low speed Wind Turbine for Application in Africa

This paper posits that a low-speed wind turbine design is suitable for harnessing wind energy in *** wind turbines consisting of propeller designs are commonly used across the world.A major hurdle to utilizing wind energy in Africa is that conventional commercial wind turbines are designed to operate at wind speeds greater than those prevalent in most of the continent,especially in sub-sahara Africa(ssA).They are heavy and expensive to purchase,install,and *** a result,only a few countries in Africa have been able to include wind energy in their energy *** this paper,the feasibility of a novel low-speed wind turbine based on a Ferris wheel is demonstrated for low wind speed applications in *** performance of Ferris wheel wind turbines(FWT)with 61m(200 ft),73m(240 ft)and 104m(341 ft)diameter rims and an 800kW generator are evaluated for selected African *** research also compares the Weibull wind distribution of the African cities of interest.A comparison between the FWT and the conventional commercial wind turbines in terms of efficiency,rated wind speed,cost,performance,and power to weight is *** show that the FWT has the potential for economic power generation at rated wind speeds of 6.74m/s,which are lower than the average of 12 m/s for conventional wind turbines and have lower power to weight ratios of 5.2 kW/tonne as compared to 6.0-9.2 kW/tonne for conventional wind turbines.

A new method for estimating the longevity and degradation of hotovoltaic systems considering weather states

The power output of solar photovoltaic （PV） systems is affected by solar radiation and ambient temperature. The commonly used evaluation techniques usually overlook the four weather states which are clear, cloudy, foggy, and rainy. In this paper, an ovel analytical model of the four weather conditions based on the Markov chain is proposed. The Markov method is well suited to estimate the reliability and availability of systems based on a continuous stochastic process. The proposed method is generic enough to be applied to reliability evaluation of PV systems and even other applications. Further aspects investigated include the new degradation model for reliability predication of PV modules. The results indicate that the PV module degradation over years, failures, and solar radiation must be considered in choosing an efficient PV system with an optimal design to achieve the maximum benefit of the PV system. For each aspect, a method is proposed, and the complete focusing methodology is expounded and validated using simulated point targets. The results also demonstrate the feasibility and applic- ability of the proposed method for effective modeling of the chronological aspects and stochastic characteristics of solar cells as well as the optimal configuration and sizing of large PV plants in terms of cost and reliability.

Application of support vector machine algorithm for early differential diagnosis of prostate cancer

Prostate cancer(PCa)symptoms are commonly confused with benign prostate hyperplasia(BPH),particularly in the early stages due to similarities between symptoms,and in some instances,*** methods have been utilized to diagnose PCa;however,at the full-blown stage,clinical methods usually present high risks of complicated side ***,we proposed the use of support vector machine for early differential diagnosis of PCa(sVM-PCa-EDD).sVM was used to classify persons with and without *** used the PCa dataset from the Kaggle Healthcare repository to develop and validate sVM model for *** PCa dataset consisted of 250 features and one class of *** considered in this study were age,body mass index(BMI),race,family history,obesity,trouble urinating,urine stream force,blood in semen,bone pain,and erectile *** sVM-PCa-EDD was used for preprocessing the PCa dataset,specifically dealing with class imbalance,and for dimensionality *** eliminating class imbalance,the area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve(AUC)of the logistic regression(LR)model trained with the downsampled dataset was 58.4%,whereas that of the AUC-ROC of LR trained with the class imbalance dataset was 54.3%.The sVM-PCa-EDD achieved 90%accuracy,80%sensitivity,and 80%*** validation of sVM-PCa-EDD using random forest and LR showed that sVM-PCa-EDD performed better in early differential diagnosis of *** proposed model can assist medical experts in early diagnosis of PCa,particularly in resource-constrained healthcare settings and making further recommendations for PCa testing and treatment.

size hierarchy is a distinct feature of nanogold-catalysts as it can strongly affect their performance in various reactions. We developed a simple method to generate Au n s m nanoclusters of different sizes by thermal treatment of an Au144(PET)60 (PET: phenylethanethiol) parent cluster. These clusters, deposited on activated carbon, exhibit excellent catalytic performance in the hydrochlorination of acetylene. In-situ ultraviolet laser dissociation high-resolution mass spectrometry of the parent cluster in the presence of acetylene revealed a remarkable cluster size-dependence of acetylene adsorption, which is a crucial step in the hydrochlorination. systematic density functional theory calculations of the reaction pathways on the differently-sized clusters provide deeper insight into the cluster size dependence of the adsorption energies of the reactants and afforded a scaling relationship between the adsorption energy of acetylene and the co-adsorption energies of the reactants (C_(2)H_(2) and HCl), which could enable a qualitative prediction of the optimal Au n s m cluster for the hydrochlorination of acetylene.

Antimalarial potential of kolaviron,a biflavonoid from Garcinia kola seeds,against Plasmodium berghei infection in swiss albino mice

Objective:To investigate the antimalarial potential of kolaviron(KV),a biflavonoid fraction from Garcinia kola seeds,against Plasmodium berghei(***)infection in swiss albino ***:The study consists of seven groups of ten mice *** I,II and III were normal mice that received com ***1 and chloroquine(CQ),*** IV,V,ⅥandⅦwere infected mice that received corn ***,KYI and ***1 and KV2were given at 10-,100-and 200-mg/kg daily,respectively for three consecutive ***:Administration of KV1 and KV2 significantly(Psuppressed ***-infection in the mice by 85%and 90%.respectively,while CQ produced 87%suppression relative to untreated infected group after the fifth day of ***,KV2 significantly(Psed the mean survival time of the infected mice by 175%.The biflavonoid prevented a drastic reduction in HCV from day4 of treatment,indicating its efficacy in ameliorating ***(Pstress assessed by the elevation of serum and hepatic malondialdehydewere observed in unlrealed ***-infected ***,senum and hepatic malondialdehyde levels increased by93%and 78%,resjiectively in the unlrealed infecled ***,antioxidant indices,viz;superoxide ***,*** peroxidase and reduced gluathione decreased significantly(Pssues of untreated ***-infected *** significantly(Pse in antioxidant status of the infected ***:This study shows that kolaviron,especially at 200 mg/kg,has high antimalarial activities in ***-infected mice,in addition to its known antioxidant properties.
