Transesterification of castor oil:neuro‑fuzzy modelling,uncertainty quantification and optimization study

This study conducted experiments used for the development of both the regression model with uncertainty analysis and the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS)model for the prediction of the yield of biodiesel(YB)produced from castor oil in the presence of calcium oxide derived from the *** Behnken design(BBD)was used to develop the experimental condition for five different variables while YB was the *** analysis was determined from Monte Carlo simulation(MCS).The model was optimized and validated before the generated data was applied in the three ANFIS modelling *** mean square error(RMSE),coefficient of correlation(R^(2))and average percentage error(APE)were used to determine the accuracy of the models *** result of this modelling shows that the optimum YB(94.29%)was achieved at a methanol to oil ratio of 11.48,catalyst loading of 3.38 wt%,reaction time of 1.84 h,the temperature of 60.2℃,and agitation of 343.5 *** prediction from BBD,ANFIS and MCS agreed that the methanol to oil ratio was the most important parameter for *** considered ANFIS model technique(subtractive clustering)for the modelling of YB outperformed BBD *** novelty of this study are the determination of the optimum condition for the transesterification of castor oil in the presence of thermally treated anthill,the establishment of the use of ANFIS in modelling YB,the prediction of the influence of variables on YB using both statistical and,AI techniques and validation of the predictions from the two methods using MCS.

Institutional Capacity and the Roles of Key Actors in Fire Disaster Risk Reduction: The Case of Ibadan, Nigeria

Inefficient and ineffective fire management practices are common to most urban areas of developing *** cities are typical examples of high vulnerability and low preparedness level for fire *** study examined the institutional framework for fire disaster risk reduction(FDRR) and explored the roles of key actors in fire disaster preparedness in Ibadan,a large traditional city in *** study was anchored on the concept of urban governance.A case study research design was adopted using primary and secondary *** data were obtained through field observation aided by a structured checklist and key informant *** were conducted on key officials of the major organs for FDRR-Oyo State Fire Service(OSFS) and Oyo State Emergency Management Agency(OYSEMA).The study identified a disjointed and fragmented approach to fire *** relating to fire risk reduction and disaster recovery were domiciled under the OYSEMA,while emergency response to fire disasters was the prerogative of the *** results show that only five out of 11 local government areas had public fire stations;only three fire stations had an on-site water supply;three fire stations lacked firefighting vehicles;and distribution of fire stations and facilities was *** fire stations responded to 80% of all fire cases in 12 *** study concluded that the institutional structure and resources for fire risk reduction was more empowered to respond to fire disaster,rather than facilitating preparedness capacity to reduce disaster risk.

Durability characteristics of cement-bonded particleboards manufactured from maize stalk residue

Cement-bonded particleboards of 6 mm in thickness were manufactured using maize stalk （Zea mays） particles of uniform sizes at three levels of board density and additive concentrations respectively. The bending strength and dimensional properties were assessed. Increase in board density and additive concentration caused increase in Modulus of rupture （MOR）, Modulus of elasticity （MOE）, and decrease in Thickness swelling （TS） and Water absorption （WA）. The MOR, MOE and TS of the boards were significantly affected by board density except for WA, but additive concentration affected all the boards＇ properties examined at p ≥ 0.05. Strong and dimensional stable cement-bonded boards could be manufactured from maize stalk particles with Portland cement as the binder after hot water treatment. Although the dimensional stability and mechanical strength properties of the boards were affected by the board density and additive concentration, the study revealed that cement-bonded particleboards could be manufactured from maize stalk （Zea mays） particles. However, the increase in board density and additive concentration could cause the increase in MOR and MOE, and cause the decrease in TS and WA of boards.

Residential and commercial buildings are undergoing a dramatic change,and the Internet of Things(IoT)tech-nologies are shaping the future of these *** have recently utilized IoT in a variety of applica-tions and settings to transfer conventional buildings into smart,efficient,and secure *** functional IoT approaches have been developed,there is still a need for improvement in IoT applications and operations to understand the full potential of this *** improvement can properly be done by bridging the gaps of the current literature to provide a building block for future *** objective of this paper is to present a comprehensive review of research work on the existing technologies and applications of IoT in residential and commercial *** residential buildings,studies are divided to three major categories of home automa-tion,intelligent energy management systems,and healthcare *** commercial buildings,the current literature is divided to four categories of office buildings,healthcare facilities,educational buildings,and restau-rants and retail *** on the review of each category,the trends,current benefits and risks,and future challenges of the IoT implementation in the built environments are identified and *** particular,in-tegration of various IoT technologies with different capabilities,data storage and processing,and privacy and security risks are identified as the main challenges for IoT *** addition,our results show that the commercial building sector has received more attention compared to the residential building *** providing the directions for future research opportunities,this paper benefits IoT developers and researchers to properly identify their work boundaries and define their contributions.

Climate Change Effects on Employment in the Nigeria's Agricultural Sector

Climate change poses mounting risks to agricultural development and rural livelihoods in *** study investigates the impacts of climate change on agricultural sector employment in Nigeria. Agriculture provides income and sustenance for much of Nigeria's rural ***, smallholder rain-fed farming predominates, with minimal resilience to climate *** data reveal rising temperatures and declining, erratic rainfall across Nigeria's agroecological zones since the 1970s. Crop modeling predicts further climate changes will reduce yields of key staple crops. This threatens the viability of smallholder agriculture and risks widespread job losses. The study adopts a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag(NARDL)modeling approach to evaluate climate change effects on agricultural sector employment in Nigeria from 1990 to 2020. Findings reveal reduced rainfall initially raises employment, as farming requires more labor in dry conditions. However, protracted droughts significantly reduce agricultural jobs. Increased temperatures consistently lower farm employment through reduced yields and incomes. Based on these findings, the study recommends that adaptive strategies are urgently needed to build resilience, promote climate-smart agriculture, and safeguard rural livelihoods.

Discontinuities effect on drilling condition and performance of selected rocks in Nigeria

The study examined joint discontinuity spacing effect on drilling condition and performance in selected rocks in llorin and Ibese areas, Nigeria. Five samples for each rock type （gneiss and limestone） were tested in the laboratory for chemical, physical and mechanical properties. Dip direction and joint spacing were measured using compass clinometers. The chemical composition was determined using X-ray Fluores- cence （XRF） spectrometer. The results show that gneiss has SiO2 of 61.88g and limestone has CaO content of 52.3g. The average dry density of gneiss and limestone are 2.6 and 2.39 g/cm^3, respectively. The uniaxial compressive strength of gneiss and limestone are 195 and 93.83 MPa, respectively. These rocks are classified as strong and moderately strong rock. Gneiss and limestone have mean joint discontinuity spacing of 0.79 and 0.25 m, which classified them as moderate and wide joint spacing respectively. Joint spacing was correlated with specific energy, bit wear and uniaxial compressive using Statistical Package for Social Science （SPSS）. The regression model has multiple coefficient of correlation of R^2 = 0.791 and R^2 =0.995 for gneiss and limestone, respectively. The variation in joint spacing could be attributed to spe- cific energy, bit wear and uniaxial compressive strength which affect drilling condition and performance. Ultimately, as joint spacing gets closer, the drilling velocity increases, drill string will be stable.

In the Peninsular Malaysia and Northern Borneo island of Malaysia, various rich indigenous leafy vegetables and fruits grow and contribute to the nutritional and dietary values of the population. They have high water contents, thus, naturally vulnerable to rapid food spoilage. Food preservation and processing play a vital role in the inhibition of food pathogens in fruits and vegetables that are prevalent in Malaysia. Lactic acid fermentation is generally a local-based bioprocess, among the oldest form and well-known for food-processing techniques among indigenous people there. The long shelf life of fermented vegetables and fruits improves their nutritional values and antioxidant potentials. Fermented leaves and vegetables can be utilized as a potential source of probiotics as they are host for several lactic acid bacteria such as Lactobacillus confusus, Weissella paramesenteroides, Enterococcus faecalis, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus buchneri, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus pentosus, Pediococcus acidilactici, Pediococcus pentosaceus and Leuconostoc mesenteroides. These strains may be more viable in metabolic systems whereby they can contribute to a substantial increase in essential biologically active element than industrial starter cultures. This review is aimed to address some essential fermented fruits and vegetables in Malaysia and their remarkable reputations as a potential sources of natural probiotics.

Relativistic symmetries with the trigonometric Pschl-Teller potential plus Coulomb-like tensor interaction

The Dirac equation is solved to obtain its approximate bound states for a spin-1/2 particle in the presence of trigonometric Poeschl-Teller （tPT） potential including a Coulomb-like tensor interaction with arbitrary spin-orbit quantum number κ using an approximation scheme to substitute the centrifugal terms κ（κ± i 1）r^-2. In view of spin and pseudo-spin （p-spin） symmetries, the relativistic energy eigenvalues and the corresponding two-component wave functions of a particle moving in the field of attractive and repulsive tPT potentials are obtained using the asymptotic iteration method （AIM）. We present numerical results in the absence and presence of tensor coupling A and for various values of spin and p-spin constants and quantum numbers n and κ. The non-relativistic limit is also obtained.
