A new look at anti-Helicobacter pylori therapy

With the rising prevalence of antimicrobial resistance,the treatment success of standard triple therapy has recently declined to unacceptable levels (i.e.,80% or less) in most ***,several treatment regimens have emerged to cure Helicobacter pylori (***) *** first-line *** therapies in 2011 include sequential therapy,concomitant quadruple therapy,hybrid (dual-concomitant) therapy and bismuth-containing quadruple *** the failure of standard triple therapy,a bismuth-containing quadruple therapy comprising a proton pump inhibitor (PPI),bismuth,tetracycline and metronidazole can be employed as rescue ***,triple therapy combining a PPI,levofloxacin and amoxicillin has been proposed as an alternative to the standard rescue *** salvage regimen can achieve a higher eradication rate than bismuth-containing quadruple therapy in some regions and has less adverse *** best second-line therapy for patients who fail to eradicate *** with first-line therapies containing clarithromycin,amoxicillin and metronidazole is ***,a levofloxacin-based triple therapy is an accepted rescue *** guidelines suggest that patients requiring third-line therapy should be referred to a medical center and treated according to the antibiotic susceptibility ***,an empirical therapy (such as levofloxacin-based or furazolidone-based therapies) can be employed to terminate *** infection if antimicrobial sensitivity data are unavailable.

Palmitic Acid-Lauric Acid/Expanded Graphite as Form-Stable Composite Phase Change Material for Low-Temperature Energy Storage Applications

Low thermal conductivity of binary fatty acid mixture of palmitic and lauric acids(PA-LA)within the value range of 0.15-0.17 W/(m·K)restricts its wide utilization as thermal energy storage material in the active regime of solar heating applications at low operating ***,this mixture as phase change material(PCM)has a suitable phase-change temperature and heat of 36℃and 176.3 J/g,***,the objective of this study is to formulate a novel form-stable composite PCM with the PA-LA mixture and expanded graphite(EG)as a thermal ***-LA eutectic mixture with varied concentrations of EG was prepared and *** thermal conductivity of PA-LA/EG increased gradually with the mass of *** thermal properties were observed in PA-LA/(5%EG)composite,where its melting(T_(m)),freezing temperature(T_(t)),latent melting heat and thermal conductivity was 35.53℃,34.84℃,174 J/g,and 1.19 W/(m·K),***,the composite PCM is characterized by good chemical-thermal stability and thermal reliability for long-term *** conclusion,it can be utilized as a prospective form-stable PCM for thermal energy storage in solar heating systems,overheat treatment systems,and other thermal storage applications at low operating temperatures.

Previously we have designed and implemented new image browsing facilities to support effective offiine image contents on mobile devices with limited capabilities： low bandwidth, small display, and slow processing. In this letter, we fulfill the automatic production of cartoon contents fitting small-screen display, and introduce a clustering method useful for various types of cartoon images as a prerequisite stage for preserving semantic meaning. The usage of neural networks is to properly cut the various forms of pages. Texture information that is useful for grayscale image segmentation gives us a good clue for page layout analysis using the multilayer perceptron （MLP） based x-y recursive algorithm. We also automatically frame the segment MLP using agglomerative segmentation. Our experimental results show that the combined approaches yield good results of segmentation for several cartoons.

Real-world comparison of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants and warfarin in Asian octogenarian patients with atrial fibrillation

Background The efficacy and safety of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants （NOACs） and warfarin in Asian octogenarian atrial fibrillation （AF） patients have not been established in a real-world setting. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of NOACs and warfarin in Korean octogenarian patients. Methods A total of 293 consecutive patients aged 〉 80 years with non-valvular AF who had taken either NOACs 048 cases, 50.5%） or warfarin （145 cases, 49.5%） were retrospectively reviewed. The efficacy outcome was the com- posite of stroke or systemic embolism. The safety outcome was major bleeding. Results The follow-up duration was 375 patient-years （ 172 patient-years with NOACs and 203 patient-years with warfarin）. Patients on NOACs were slightly older （P = 0.006） and had slightly higher HAS-BLED scores （P = 0.034）. The efficacy of both anticoagulants was high （1.16% for NOACs vs. 2.98% for warfarin per 100 pa- tient-years, P = 0.46）. The safety outcome was relatively high in both NOACs and warfarin groups （8.96% vs. 12.46%, P = 0.29）. The effi- cacy and safety outcomes tended to decrease non-significantly in low dose NOACs than in common dose NOACs or warfarin （0.85% vs. 1.84% vs. 2.98% in efficacy outcome, P = 0.69; and 6.97% vs. 13.29% vs. 12.46% in safety outcome, P = 0.34）. Conclusions NOACs were highly effective for prevention of stroke or systemic embolism in Asian octogenarian AF patients. However, major bleeding occurred excessively high in both anticoagulant groups. Further study is required on the optimal anticoagulant regimen in octogenarian population.

Effect of metal catalyst on the mechanism of hydrogen spillover in three-dimensional covalent-organic frameworks

Hydrogen spillover mechanism of metal-supported covalent-organic frameworks COF-105 is investigated by means of the density functional theory, and the effects of metal catalysts M_4（Pt_4, Pd_4, and Ni_4） on the whole spillover process are systematically analyzed. These three metal catalysts exhibit several similar phenomena：（i） they prefer to deposit on the tetra（_4-dihydroxyborylphenyl） silane（TBPS） cluster with surface-contacted configuration;（ii） only the H atoms at the bridge site can migrate to 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxy triphenylene（HHTP） and TBPS surfaces, and the migration process is an endothermic reaction and not stable;（iii） the introduction of M_4 catalyst can greatly reduce the diffusion energy barrier of H atoms, which makes it easier for the H atoms to diffuse on the substrate surface. Differently, all of the H2 molecules spontaneously dissociate into H atoms onto Pt_4 and Pd_4clusters. However, the adsorbed H2 molecules on Ni_4 cluster show two types of adsorption states： one activated state with stretched H–H bond length of 0.88 ？A via the Kubas interaction and five dissociated states with separated hydrogen atoms. Among all the M_4 catalysts, the orders of the binding energy of M_4 deposited on the substrate and average chemisorption energy per H2 molecule are Pt_4〉Ni_4〉Pd_4. On the contrary, the orders of the migration and diffusion barriers of H atoms are Pt_4

Cultivation of microalgae for biodiesel production:A review on upstream and downstream processing

Fluctuating market price of fossil fuel and overwhelming emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere have resulted in climate change and have been a global concern in this decade. Hence, biodiesel has become an alternative option to fossil diesel as it is renewable and environmentally friendly. Nevertheless, this alternative fuel that is usually derived from terrestrial oil crops will cause shortage in food supply and deforestation if mass production is realized. In recent years, cultivation of aquatic microorganism(particularly microalgae) to produce biodiesel is considered as a practical solution due to their high growth rate and ability to synthesize large quantity of lipid within their cell. However, the development of energy and cost-efficiency of microalgae cultivation system are the main issues in producing renewable microalgae biodiesel. Of late, wastewater or organic compost has been used as the cultivation medium as it can provide sufficient nutrients to sustain microalgae *** cultivation method and system are vitally important as these factors undoubtedly affect the final microalgae biomass and lipid yield. In this review, the cultivation system of microalgae, nutrients demanded for microalgae production, cell harvesting and drying, microalgae oil extraction, and utilization of microalgae biomass for biodiesel production are introduced and discussed. It is anticipated to convey clearer perspectives in upstream and downstream processes in microalgae-derived biodiesel production.

Synthesized flavanoid-derived ligand reduced dengue virus type-2 replication in vitro

Objective: To investigate the antiviral property of a lead ligand, YK51 that was synthesized based on the flavanoid of a natural product toward dengue virus type-2(DENV2)***: c RNA was isolated from HepG2 cells inoculated with 1 000 median tissue culture infective dose of DENV2 and treated with different doses of the ligand followed by RT-PCR to quantify the virus gene copies. Confocal microscopy of actin and tubulin redistribution was also ***: The quantitative RT-PCR result showed reduction of the DENV2 gene copies as the ligand concentration was increased. The confocal microscopy result showed increase in the tubulin intensity(79.6%) of infected BHK21 cells treated with the ligand,compared with the non-treated cells(54.8%). The 1.5-fold increase in the intensity of tubulin suggested that the ligand inhibitory effect stabilized the cellular microtubule ***: The synthesized ligand YK51 reduced DENV2 viral load by inhibiting virus replication thus is highly potential to be developed as antiviral agent.

Commercialization of Zn-metal anodes with low cost and high theoretical capacity is hindered by the poor reversibility caused by dendrites growth,side reactions,and the slow Zn^(2+)-transport and reaction ***,a reversible heterogeneous electrode of Zn-nanocrystallites/polyvinylphosphonic acrylamide(Zn/PPAm)with fast electrochemical kinetics is designed for the first time:phosphonic acid groups with strong polarity and chelation effect ensure structural reversibility and stability of the threedimensional Zn-storage-host PPAm network and the Zn/PPAm hybrid;hydrophobic carbon chains suppress side reactions such as hydrogen evolution and corrosion;weak electron-donating amide groups constitute Zn^(2+)-transport channels and promote“desolvation”and“solvation”effects of Zn^(2+)by dragging the PPAm network on the Zn-metal surface to compress/stretch during Zn plating/stripping,respectively;and the heterostructure and Zn nanocrystallites suppress dendrite growth and enhance electrochemical reactivity,***,the Zn/PPAm electrode shows cycle reversibility of over 6000 h with a hysteresis voltage as low as 31 mV in symmetrical cells and excellent durability and flexibility in fiber-shaped batteries.
