The role of mic.obes in the c.rrosion of metals is du. to the c.emic.l ac.ivities (metabolism) assoc.ated with the mic.obial growth and reprodu.0}ion. A lot of researc.es have shown that enormou. loss of resou.c.s and even lives has been experienc.d in many c.u.tries of the world du. to c.rrosion. There is therefore need to devic. a means of c.mbating this menac. so as to save different c.u.tries of the world inc.u.ing Nigeria the c.st enc.red du. to c.rrosion. This researc. has helped to determine the role of bac.eria in the c.rrosion of high c.rbon steel u.der aerobic.and anaerobic.c.nditions was investigated u.ing su.phate redu.0}ng bac.eria and other aerobes. A sample of high c.rbon steel grade of c.emic.l c.mposition: 96% iron (Fe), 1.08% c.rbon (c., 0.349% silic.n (Si), 0.841% manganese (Mn), 0.005% phosphoru. (P) and 0.005% su.phu. (S), was obtained in the form of steel plate. eighteen (18) samples of the high c.rbon steel were prepared. Standard mic.obiologic.l methods were u.ed to isolate aerobic.and anaerobic.bac.eria isolates. The mic.obes isolated from the soil inc.u.ed;aerobes (Bac.llu. spec.es, Pseu.omonas spec.es) and anaerobes (Desu.fovibrio spec.es, Thiobac.llu. spec.es). The role of bac.eria in the c.rrosion of high c.rbon steel was estimated u.ing the weight loss tec.niqu. and the elec.roc.emic.l potential measu.ement tec.niqu.. eighteen samples of a high c.rbon steel of known c.mpositions were exposed to su.phate redu.0}ng bac.eria u.der different environments (aerobic. anaerobic.and c.ntrol). The physic.l and c.emic.l c.anges were examined and monitored on weekly basis for six weeks. It was observed that the c.u.ons immersed in the media with su.phate redu.0}ng bac.eriu. u.derwent fast ac.ivation and nu.erou. c.rrosion sites were formed on the su.fac.s. The average c.rrosion rate for six weeks (42 days) period of time as determined by the weight loss method and elec.roc.emic.l testing were fou.d to be 0.0004595 mm/year, -0.712 mV in aerobic.environm

This work investigated and qu.ntified the physic.c.emic.l, stru.0}u.al and morphologic.l properties of fou. (4) tropic.l timbers as prec.rsor raw materials for possible u.ilization in the wood plastic.indu.try. The physic.c.emic.l properties of the wood samples su.0} as the bu.k and tapped density, moistu.e c.ntent, water absorption c.pac.ty at 25°c. volatile c.ntent, fixed c.rbon, ash c.ntent, alpha c.llu.ose, hemic.llu.ose, lignin, and extrac.ives c.ntents were determined u.ing standard methods like the eu.opean c.mmittee for Standardization and (c.N/TS) and the Americ.n Soc.ety for Testing Materials (ASTM) standards. The stru.0}u.al and morphologic.l properties of the samples were examined with Fou.ier Infrared Transform (FTIR) spec.rosc.py and sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.pe (SeM). Resu.ts indic.ted that the bu.k density valu.s of the timbers ranged from 0.34 g/c.u.>3u.> in Brac.ystegia eu.yc.ma (Wu.>3u.>) to 0.47 g/c.u.>3u.> in erythrophleu. su.veolens (Wu.>2u.>), with the other timbers, Nu.0}ea dideric.ii (Wu.>1u.>) and Prosopis afric.na (Wu.>4u.>) having the same bu.k density of 0.40 g/c.u.>3u.>. With respec. to their moistu.e c.ntent, Wu.>2u.> had the highest valu. (8.38%) while Nau.0}ea diderric.ii had the lowest valu. (6.52%). The water absorption c.pac.ties of the woods stu.ied c.rrelated with the c.llu.ose c.mposition of wood in the order of: Wu.>3u.> > Wu.>1u.> > Wu.>4u.> > Wu.>2u.>. The FTIR resu.ts showed that Wu.>2u.> and Wu.>3u.> presented a slightly more prominent and broader band than the other woods at 1731 c.u.>-1u.>, in agreement with the higher holoc.llu.ose c.ntent of these spec.es, while Wu.>2u.> and Wu.>4u.> presented the most prominent peaks indic.ting higher lignin c.ntent than Wu.>1u.> and Wu.>3u.>. This work investigated and qu.ntified the physic.mec.anic.l properties of flat-pressed wood plastic.c.mposites produ.0}d with rec.c.ed polyethylene terephthalate, rec.c.ed polyethylene and sawdu.t derived from selec.ed tropic.l timbers, namely, Nau.0}ea diderric.ii, Brac.ystegia eu.yc.ma, erythrophleu. su.veolens and Prosopis afric.na, for possible u.ilization in the wood indu.try. The c.mpou.ding of the polymer blends of the prec.rsor plastic., namely rec.c.ed PeT (rPeT) and rec.c.ed Pe (rPe) with the sawdu.t (SD) from the selec.ed timbers to produ.0} the desired wood rPeT/rPe c.mposites was c.rried ou. via the flat press method. The c.arac.erization of the physic.mec.anic.l properties of the wood plastic.c.mposites (WPc.) produ.0}d, su.0} as the density, hardness, flexu.al strength, u.timate tensile strength, elongation %, thic.ness swelling and water absorption c.pac.ty was c.rried ou. u.ing methods based mainly on the eu.opean c.mmittee for Standardization (c.N) and the Americ.n Soc.ety for Testing Materials (ASTM) standards. The resu.ts of the investigation on the resu.tant c.mposites indic.ted that c.anges in the SD c.ntent affec.ed the density of flat-pressed WPc. in line with literatu.e. Generally, it was observed that as wood du.t inc.eased and PeT c.ntent dec.eased, the density of c.mposites dec.eased with some deviations as expec.ed probably du. to the anisotropic.natu.e of the wood fillers. The analysis of varianc. (ANOVA) revealed that there was a statistic.lly signific.nt variation in the wood c.mposites of Nu.0}ea dideric.ii based on the physic.mec.anic.l valu.s as the p-valu. (0.020) obtained was less than the c.itic.l level of α = 0.05. It was also observed that the c.mposite, Wood 1 Sample 5 (Wu.>1u.>Su.>5u.>) whic. was c.mposed of 40% rPe, 40% rPeT and 20% SD (derived from Nu.0}ea dideric.ii), had the highest perc.ntage elongation (26.84%);the highest flexu.al strength (14.995 N/mmu.>2u.>) and possibly the least c.rbon footprint in the env

In c.ntrast to the earlier experiments c.ndu.0}ed in other mac.ines, here, in SST-1 the error field measu.ement experiment is performed with a filled gas pressu.e ~8×10^-4 mbar whic. helped to c.eate a lu.inesc.nt toroidal beam of elec.ron path originated du. to impac. exc.tation and gu.ded by the toroidal magnetic.field. Beam path deviations are observed and rec.rded from radial and top ports u.ing visible range c.meras. Su.0} c.eation and detec.ion of the elec.ron beam path differs from the earlier works where the gu. emitted elec.ron beam deviation in u.trahigh vac.u. was detec.ed on a c.llec.or-grid/flu.resc.nt sc.een. In the present experiment, large beam deviations were observed. Later investigation of the experimental set-u. reveals existenc. of a possible sou.c. of radial elec.ric.field in between the sou.c. and the vac.u. vessel whic. are separately grou.ded. Thu., to u.derstand the observed phenomena, experiments are nu.eric.lly modeled with deviated TF c.il set, PF c.il set and the elec.ron sou.c. loc.tion. A partic.e trac.ng c.de is u.ed to follow the elec.ron path in the magnetic.field generated by the c.il set of interest. Simu.ation resu.ts su.gest that the large deviation c.rresponds to the e×B drifts and not du. to the large field errors. Toroidally averaged field errors of the SST-1 TF c.ils at toroidal field of B0?=?15 kG are negligibly small ~B0?×?10^-6 or less, whic. shou.d not adversely affec. the plasma performanc..

Volu.es have been written on kala-azar du.ing the past three dec.des. Investigators in both India and the Mediterranean region have pu.lished c.inic.l desc.iptions of the disease in its more or less fu.ly developed stage. There is, however, sc.nty referenc. in the Piteratu.e to its early manifestations. Standard text-books on tropic.l diseases as well as monographs on kala-azar (Ⅰ and 2)c.ntain no detailed desc.iption of the salient featu.es of the disease in its early stage apart from mentioning the variou. possible modes of onset. Rogers (3) referred to three c.ses of early kala-azar whic. simu.ated typhoid fever. Low (4) desc.ibed a similar c.se whic. presented c.nsiderable diffic.lty in diagnosis as it showed so few of the ordinary symptoms of kala-azar. One of u. (5) rec.ntly reported an early c.se in whic. tu.erc.losis and u.du.ant fever were at first su.pec.ed.

A long-standing mystery in the stu.y of Field-Aligned c.rrents(FAc.) has been that: how the c.rrents are generated and why they appear to be mu.1} stronger at high altitu.es than in the ionosphere. here we present two events of magnetotail FAc. observed by the Magnetospheric.Mu.tisc.le Spac.c.aft(MMS) on 1 st Ju.y and 14 th Ju.y 2016, to show how the Su.storm c.rrent wedges(Sc.) were formed. The resu.ts show that partic.es were transferred heading towards the earth du.ing the expansion phase of *** azimu.hal flow formed c.oc.wise(c.u.ter-c.oc.wise) vortex-like motion, and then generated downward(u.ward) FAc. on the tailward/poleward side of the distorted field with opposite vortic.ty on their earthward/equ.torward side. we also analyzed the Region 1 FAc. observed by the earth explorer Swarm spac.c.aft on 1 st Ju.y 2016 and fou.d that they were assoc.ated with FAc. observed by MMS, althou.h differing by a fac.or of 10. This differenc. su.gests that either there was the c.osu.e of the c.rrents at altitu.es above 500 km or the c.rrents were not stric.ly parallel to B and c.osed at longitu.es away from where they were generated.
