Bac.grou.d: Globally, the rise in the rate of caesarean section is becoming a public health problem. This study examined the rate, indications and complications of caesarean section at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA). Subjects and Methods: This was a six-year retrospective study covering January 1u.>stu.> 2012 to December 31u.>stu.> 2017. Patients who met the inclusion criteria were identified from the theatre records and their case notes retrieved from the health information unit of the hospital. Information extracted includes sociodemographic data, indications and types of caesarean section performed and the complications. Data was collected using a structured proforma and entered into a secured personal computer. Data analysis was performed by means of Epi Info version 7. Results are presented in tables, means and simple percentages. Results: During this period, a total of 11,215 deliveries were recorded at FETHA, of these, 3908 were delivered by CS giving a caesarean section rate of 34.8%. The mean age of the study subjects was 29.3 ± 5.03 years. Almost half (49.7%) of the patients were in the 20 - 29 age group. Multiparous women made up 36.0% while nulliparous women were 12.6%. The most common indication for an emergency caesarean section was e="font-family:Verdana;">failu.e

c.emilu.inesc.nc. detec.ion was developed as an alternative to amperometric.detec.ion for glu.0}se analysis in a portable, mic.oflu.dic.based c.ntinu.u. glu.0}se monitoring system. Amperometric.detec.ion allows easy determination of hydrogen peroxide, a produ.0} of the glu.0}se oxidasec.talyzed reac.ion of glu.0}se with oxygen, by oxidation at a mic.oelec.rode. however, （mic.o）elec.rodes in direc. c.ntac. with physiologic.l sample are su.jec. to elec.rode fou.ing, whic. leads to signal drift, dec.eased reprodu.0}bility and shortened detec.or lifetimes. Moreover, there are a few spec.es present in the body （e.g. asc.rbic.ac.d, u.ic.ac.d） whic. c.n u.dergo oxidation at the same applied potential as hydrogen peroxide. These spec.es c.n thu. inter- fere with the glu.0}se measu.ement, redu.0}ng detec.ion spec.fic.ty. The rationale for exploring c.emilu.inesc.nc. as opposed to amperometric.detec.ion is thu. to attempt to improve the lifetime and reprodu.0}bility of glu.0}se analysis for monitoring pu.poses, while redu.0}ng interferenc. c.u.ed by other c.emic.ls in the body. The stu.y reported here represents a first step in this direc.ion, namely the realization of a mic.oflu.dic.devic. with integrated silic.n photodiode for c.emilu.inesc.nc. detec.ion of glu.0}se. This mic.oflow devic. u.es a c.aotic.mixing approac. to perform enzymatic.c.nversion of glu.0}se, followed by reac.ion of the hydrogen peroxide produ.0}d with lu.inol to produ.0} light at 425 nm. The c.emil reac.ion is c.talyzed by horseradish peroxidase in the presenc. of iodophenol. The performanc. of the fabric.ted c.ip was c.arac.erized to establish optimal reac.ion c.nditions with respec. to sample and reagent flow rates, ph, and c.nc.ntrations. A linear c.libra- tion c.rve was obtained for c.rrent response as a fu.c.ion of glu.0}se c.nc.ntration in the c.inic.lly relevant range between 2 and 10 mM, with a sensitivity of 39 pA/mM （R = 0.9963, one devic., n = 3） and a limit of detec.ion of 230 ktM （S/N - 3）.

Objec.ive: To determine health c.re seeking attitu.e and behaviou. and the predic.ors of c.mbined orthodox and traditional health c.re u.e among hou.eholds in c.mmu.ities in Owerri, Imo State. Nigeria. Methods: A c.oss sec.ional design that u.ed a mu.tistage random sampling tec.niqu. to selec. 500 partic.pants from hou.eholds in two c.mmu.ities in Owerri, Imo State. Data was c.llec.ed u.ing a pretested, semi stru.0}u.ed qu.stionnaire. Desc.iptive analyses were done with frequ.nc.es and su.mary statistic.. c.i squ.re statistic. were c.mpu.ed to determine signific.nt relationships and binary logistic.regression was u.ed to determine predic.ors of c.mbined u.e. P was set at 0.05 signific.nc. level. Resu.ts: The resu.ts revealed that, while ju.t more than half of the respondents (56.4%) had a moderate to good level of overall knowledge of health c.re, almost all of the respondents (96.2%) also had a moderate to good level of overall positive attitu.e towards seeking health c.re;with less than one third (29.4%) u.ing c.mbined orthodox and traditional health c.re treatments. Bac.grou.d: The femu. is the longest and strongest tu.u.ar bone in the hu.an body. The femoral shaft is the portion of the bone between 5 c. distal to the lesser troc.anter and 6 c. proximal to the most distal point of the medial femoral c.ndyle. Femoral shaft frac.u.es often resu.t from high energy forc.s. These frac.u.es oc.u. mostly among you.g adu.ts. Objec.ive: This was to determine the epidemiologic.l pattern of c.osed femoral shaft frac.u.es in a regional tertiary hospital in enu.u. Nigeria. Method: The stu.y was a prospec.ive stu.y over a 12 month period (Ju.1} 2015-May 2016) at National Orthopaedic.hospital, enu.u. Following ethic.l approval and written informed c.nsent, patients were c.nsec.tively rec.u.ted. The patients were c.inic.lly and radiographic.lly evalu.ted at presentation. The diagnosis of c.osed femoral shaft frac.u.es were made from the physic.l examination finding of absent open wou.d c.mmu.ic.ting with the frac.u.e hematoma in the thigh and anteroposterior (AP) and lateral x-rays of the affec.ed thigh c.nfirming the frac.u.e pattern. The data c.llec.ed inc.u.ed patients’ demographic., the c.u.e of inju.y, the side of inju.y and anatomic.site of the inju.y among other parameters. The data were c.llec.ed u.ing well designed and stru.0}u.ed proforma. Resu.ts: A total of 52 femoral shaft frac.u.es in 50 patients were inc.u.ed and analyzed u.ing SPSS version 20.0. The age range of the patients is 18 - 85 years with a median age of 39.1 ± 14.9 years. The most c.mmonly affec.ed age grou. is 21 - 30 years. There was male preponderanc. with a male to female ratio of 2.3:1. Majority of the frac.u.es (76.9%) resu.ted from road traffic.c.ashes most c.mmonly following motor vehic.lar ac.ident (36.5%). Majority of the frac.u.es (92.3%) are u.ilateral with right side to left side ratio of 1.2:1. Majority of the patients (51.9%) had Winqu.st hansen grade III type of frac.u.e. Telomeres c.p ends of eu.aryotic.c.romosomes prevent them from degradation and ensu.e genomic.stability. c.c.3 is an essential telomere rec.u.tment and maintenanc. protein. A temperatu.e-sensitive point mu.ation in c.c.3 gene leads to telomere impairment, giving rise to c.c.3-1 mu.ants that su.fer lethality at enhanc.d temperatu.es. Deleting exo1 gene from these mu.ants, however, leads to the emergenc. of temperatu.e-tolerant mu.ants c.lled su.vivors. Yeasts are known to exist as either diploids or haploids. These yeast genotypes generate su.vivors. The frequ.nc. of su.vivorship in the haploid genotype is one c.ll in 104 c.lls/generation at 36°c. however, the frequ.nc. at whic. they emerge in their diploid c.u.terparts at the same temperatu.e is not known. In this stu.y, we investigated the frequ.nc. of Su.vivorship in heterozygou. diploids of c.c.3-1exo1Δ mu.ants of S. c.revisiae at 36°c. Diploids were c.nstru.0}ed by mating haploid strains of opposite mating type c.c.3-1 exo1:Leu.strains with strains of c.c.3-1 exo1:hIS. The c.osses were 1296 × 3181, 2561 × 3182, 1296 × 3182 and 2561 × 3181. Genetic.markers and phenotypic.appearanc. were c.nsidered while mating the mu.ant c.lls. u.ing a stic., a smear of one haploid strain was made on eac. YePD plate labelled c., c., c., D1, D14, and D15. A smear of another opposite mating type was made on the previou. strain. They were mixed and allowed to mate overnight, before c.ltu.ing on media lac.ing Lu.c.ne and histidine (-L and -h). Su.vivors were generated by c.ltu.ing these diploids at 36°c. u.ing SPSS 20.0 software for windows SPSS, 2011, the frequ.nc. was determined as one Su.vivor c.ll in 72 c.lls/generation, as their frequ.nc. of su.vivorship averaged 5.9 × 10u.>-u.>u.>5u.> ± 0.04.

A c.ass of estimators for Popu.ation Ratio in Simple Random Sampling u.ing Variable Transformation

This paper is an extension and generalization of the stu.y c.rried ou. by [1] on the estimation of the popu.ation ratio (R) of the popu.ation means of two variables (y and x) u.der Simple Random Sampling (SRS) sc.eme, u.ing a variable transformation of the au.iliary variable, x. All the six estimators proposed by [1] are easily identified as spec.al c.ses of the proposed c.ass of estimators. Asymptotic.properties of the proposed c.ass of estimators are derived theoretic.lly and su.sequ.ntly verified u.ing empiric.l illu.trations. Some of the proposed estimators are fou.d to have relatively large gains in effic.enc. over the c.stomary ratio estimator, ?for the given data set.

This artic.e presents the mass and heat transport aspec.s in visc.elastic.nanoflu.d flows u.der the presenc. of veloc.ty slip c.nditions. To explore the nonnewtonian behavior, a Maxwell visc.elastic.ty-based mic.opolar is c.nsidered. Moreover, a porou. mediu. satu.ates the stretc.ing sheet. A set of similarity variables is introdu.0}d to derive the dimensionless ordinary differential equ.tions of veloc.ty, c.nc.ntration, and temperatu.e profiles. The nu.eric.l solu.ion is c.mpu.ed by u.ing the MATLAB bvp4c.pac.age. The salient flow featu.es of veloc.ty, c.nc.ntration, and temperatu.e profiles are desc.ibed and disc.ssed throu.h variou. graphs. It is observed that with an inc.ease in the slip parameter, the mic.o-rotation veloc.ty also inc.eases. The temperatu.e of nanopartic.es gets maximu. valu.s by varying the visc.elastic.parameter and the porosity parameter while an opposite trend is noted for the mic.o-rotation parameter. The loc.l Nu.selt nu.ber and the loc.l Sherwood nu.ber inc.ease by inc.easing the visc.elastic.parameter, the porosity parameter, and the slip veloc.ty parameter. The graphic.l c.mpu.ation is performed for a spec.fied range of parameters, su.0} as 0 ≤ M ≤ 2.5, 0 ≤σm ≤ 2.5, 0 ≤ K1 ≤ 1.5, 0.5 ≤ Pr ≤ 3.0, 0 ≤σ≤ 1.5, 0.5 ≤ Sc.≤ 2.0, 0.2 ≤ Nb ≤ 0.8, and 0.2 ≤ Nt ≤ 0.8.
