Intermetallic interphases in lithium metal and lithium ion batteries

A robust electrode-electrolyte interface is the cornerstone for every battery system,as demonstrated in the meandering history of the development of Li-ion batteries(LIBs).In the thrust to replace the graphite anode with more energetic ones in LIBs,the effectual strategy for stabilizing the original graphite-electrolyte interface becomes obsolete and a new anode-electrolyte interface needs reconfiguration.Unfortunately,this interface has become the Achilles'heel for those anodes,such as Li-metal anode(LMA)and Si-based anode owing to their excessive reductivity,enormous volume change,and so forth.Encouragingly,in the last decade,impressive progress has been made on taming these extremely unstable interfaces and on the solid-state batteries(SSBs)that are reported to be less susceptible to parasitic reactions.One of the distinguished strategies is the application of artificial Li-alloying intermetallic interphases onto the surface of LMA,via the direct introduction of foreign metals to the Li anode or indirect hetero-cations doping in the electrolyte,to regulate the Li deposition/stripping behavior,which has markedly improved the stability of the LMA-electrolyte interface.In parallel,the intermetallic interphases are also witnessed to profoundly enhance the anode-solid electrolyte contact and the corresponding charge transfer kinetics in various SSBs.This review will provide a panoramic overview of the application of the intermetallic interphases at the anode-electrolyte interfaces in the lithium metal batteries(LMBs),SSBs,and also derivative works in the conventional LIBs,which will focus on different concepts,methodologies,and understandings from the encircled studies.

Introduction:Hypersalivation has been associated with Rolandic epilepsy and other childhood epilepsy syndromes.However,pure salivatory seizures are a rare type of focal seizure in which ictal hypersalivation is the dominant feature throughout the seizures.Case presentation:We present a case of pure salivatory seizures originating from the right post-central operculum cortex,confirmed by the favorable surgical outcome.We attempt to analyze the symptom from behavioral and neural network perspectives and propose a possible mechanism to generate ictal hypersalivation and pure salivatory seizures.Conclusion:Based on previous reports in the literature and our case,we emphasize the importance of the operculum in patients with ictal hypersalivation,particularly in patients with pure salivatory seizures.

Fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles are currently being considered as ideal means to solve the energy crisis and global warming in today’s society.In this context,this paper proposes a method to solve the problem related to the dependence of the so-called optimal equivalent factor(determined in the framework of the equivalent consumption minimum strategy-ECMS)on the working conditions.The simulation results show that under typical conditions(some representative cities being considered),the proposed strategy can maintain the power balance;for different initial battery’s states of charge(SOC),after the SOC stabilizes,the fuel consumption is 5.25 L/100 km.

The grid load attributable to electric vehicles (EVs)is affected by the choice behaviors of EV users. To analyze theeffects of factors such as travel demand and electricity priceson user behavior, a logit discrete choice model is introducedto simulate the users decisions to charge/travel. Based on aquasi-steady-state traffic network, a model for cluster electricvehicles considering the user’s behavior is designed to obtain theprobability distribution of the user’s behavior and the chargeand discharge curves of cluster EVs under various scenarios. Thevalidity of the proposed model is verified using an IEEE 9-nodetraffic network case and an urban traffic network case. Furthermore,the impact of the electricity price, traffic conditions, andother factors on the load curves of urban EVs is analyzed.

A dedicated heat exchanger model is introduced for the optimization of heavy-duty diesel engines.The model is a prerequisite for the execution of CFD simulations,which are used to improve waste heat recovery in these systems.Several optimization methods coupled with different types of working fluids are compared in terms of exergy efficiency and heat exchanger complicity.The three considered optimization methods all lead to significant improvements in the R245fa and R1233zd systems with a comparatively low evaporation temperature.The optimal R245fa system has the highest efficiency increase(77.49%).The cyclopentane system displays the highest efficiency among the optimized ORC(Organic Rankine Cycle)systems,yet achieved by using a much heavier evaporator HEC(Heat Exchanging Core).In contrast,the 96.84%efficiency increase for the optimized R1233zd is achieved with only 68.96%evaporator weight.

EV Response Capability Assessment Considering User Travel Demand and Cyber System Reliability

With the increasing penetration rate of electric vehicles(EVs),EV demand response holds great significance for promoting the optimal and secure operation of the power system.This paper proposes an EV response capability assessment method that considers EV users’travel demands and the reliability of the cyber systems integrated into both the power grid and the transportation network.A novel framework for an integrated cyber-power-transportation system is proposed for the first time,and a reliability model for the cyber system is provided.A method is further proposed to calculate the state of an EV when it is plugged in,considering the reliability of traffic guidance information and the reliability of the release of such information.The degree of relaxation in the EV charging demand is proposed to reflect the user’s travel demand,based on which the EV response capability can be assessed.Extensive test results on a cyber-power-transportation system containing RBTS BUS6 and the Beijing transportation network are conducted to show the efficiency of the proposed method.The impact of cyber reliability on the EV trip and response capability is analyzed.

Seasonal variations of microbial community and antibiotic resistome in a suburb drinking water distribution system in a northern Chinese city

Antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)are an emerging issue for drinkingwater safety.However,the seasonal variation of ARGs in drinking water distribution systems(DWDS)is still unclear.This work revealed the tempo-spatial changes of microbial community,ARGs,mobile genetic elements(MGEs)co-occurring with ARGs,ARG hosts in DWDS bulk water by means of metagenome assembly.The microbial community and antibiotic resistome varied with sampling season and site.Temperature,ammonia,chlorite and total plate count(TPC)drove the variations of microbial community structure.Moreover,environmental parameters(total organic carbon(TOC),chlorite,TPC and hardness)shifted antibiotic resistome.ARGs and MGEs co-occurring with ARGs showed higher relative abundance in summer and autumn,which might be attributed to detached pipe biofilm.In particular,ARG-bacitracin and plasmid were the predominant ARG and MGE,respectively.ARG hosts changed with season and site and were more diverse in summer and autumn.In winter and spring,Limnohabitans and Mycobacterium were the major ARG hosts as well as the dominant genera in microbial community.In addition,in summer and autumn,high relative abundance of Achromobacter and Stenotrophomonas were the hosts harboring many kinds of ARGs and MGEs at site in a residential zone(0.4 km from the water treatment plant).Compared with MGEs,microbial community had a greater contribution to the variation of antibiotic resistome.This work gives new insights into the dynamics of ARGs in full-scale DWDS and the underlying factors.

To the Editor： Semicircular canal （SCC） malformation （dystrophy, coloboma, or enlargement） is a kind of inner ear anomaly. It is usually found in congenital syndromes along with the malformation（s） of other structure（s） of any of the parts of the ear including the inner ear. Isolated one SCC malformation is extremely rare and might thereby be easily missed. The present study reports a case of the left lateral SCC （LSCC） aplasia.

A class of fractional stochastic neutral functional differential equation is analyzed in this paper.With the utilization of the fractional calculations,semigroup theory,fixed point technique and stochastic analysis theory,a sufficient condition of the existence for p-mean almost periodic solution is obtained,which are supported by two examples.
