By using our computational fluid dynamic models, a new type of single engine capable of operating over a wide range of Mach numbers from subsonic to hypersonic regimes is proposed for airplanes, whereas traditional piston engines, turbojet engines, and scram engines work only under a narrower range of operating conditions. the new engine has no compressors or turbines such as those used in conventional turbojet engines. An important point is its system of super multijets that collide to compress gas for the transonic regime. Computational fluid dynamics is applied to clarify the potential of this engine. the peak pressure at the combustion center is over 2.5 MPa, while that just before ignition is over 1.0 MPa. the maximum power of this engine will be sufficient for actual use. Under the conditions of higher Mach numbers, the main intake passage located in front of the super multijet nozzles, takes in air more. that results in a ram or scramjet engine for supersonic and hypersonic conditions.

We demonstrate a bottom-up approach to fabricating a visible light-driven titania photocatalyst device bearing an embeddedtwo-dimensional (2D) array of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as a near-field light-generating layer. the device is a layered structureprepared by depositing a 2D array of AuNPs on a transparent conductive substrate (10 nm indium tin oxide (ItO) layer on quartz),coating the 2D array of AuNPs with a monolayer of trimethoxyoctylsilane (tMOS), and depositing titania nanocrystals on the anchoringmolecule (tMOS) layer. the visible light activity of the device was tested using photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) byilluminating the device with visible light (700 nm light) and ultraviolet (UV) light (250–380 nm). the localized surface plasmonresonance peak of the 36 nm AuNP 2D array is around 700 nm with a full-width at half-maximum of 350 nm. In comparison with othercontrol samples, the device showed the highest photocatalytic activity with visible irradiation, which was 1.7 times higher than that oftitania with UV irradiation. the origin of the visible light activity was confirmed by both quadratic incident light power dependency andaction spectrum to be plasmon-induced (near-field enhancement by AuNPs) two-photon absorption.

this article describes comparison of the anchoring effect on electronic properties of the helicene-like bibenzothiophene between o-carborane and 5,6-dicarba-nido-decaborane. the o-carborane and nido-decaborane-fused bibenzothiophenes were simultaneously obtained in the same reaction and successfully isolated. Initially, the X-ray single crystal analysis revealed that the helicene-like distorted structure was realized in the nido-decaborane-fused bibenzothiophene. From optical measurements in the solution state, distinct different characteristics depending on the type of anchors were observed. It was summarized that the absorption and luminescent properties originated from weak π-conjugation at the bibenzothiophene moiety in the o-carboranefused compound were obtained, whereas robust π-conjugation and significant emission from the intramolecular charge transfer state were detected from the nido-decaborane-fused compound. these data can be explained by the theoretical results that π-conjugation was restrictedly developed within the bibenzothiophene moiety in frontier orbitals of the o-carborane-fused compound. In contrast, π-conjugation can be constructed even through the distorted bibenzothiophene because of the nido-decaborane unit. Moreover, the intramolecular charge transfer state should be realized because of electronic interaction involving the nido-decaborane unit in the excited state. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the nido-decaborane-fused compound possessed solid-state emission and mechanochromic luminescent properties. the π-conjugation on the distorted structure supported by the nido-decaborane anchor should play a significant role in suppressing aggregation-caused quenching followed by presenting solid-state emission with stimuli responsiveness.

Background:Mizoribine(MZR)is a selective inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase,a key enzyme in the pathway responsible for de novo synthesis of guanine *** an immunosuppressant,MZR has been used successfully without any serious adverse effects in the treatment of renal diseases in children as well as *** its immunosuppressive effect,MZR has been reported to ameliorate tubulointerstitial fibrosis in rats via suppression of macrophage *** Sources:In this review,we summarize reported possible benefits of MZR in the treatment of pediatric-onset glomerular ***:We recently observed that MZR itself selectively attenuates the expression of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 at both the mRNA and protein levels in human mesangial *** MZR binds specifically to 14-3-3 proteins and heat shock protein 60,both of which are reportedly expressed in inflamed glomeruli,MZR may bind directly to inflamed glomerular cells,thereby possibly preventing progressive damage from glomerulonephritis through a suppressive effect on activated macrophages and intrinsic renal ***,it has recently been reported that MZR directly prevents podocyte injury through correction of the intracellular energy balance and nephrin biogenesis in cultured podocyte and rat models,suggesting a direct anti-proteinuric effect of ***:these beneficial mechanisms of action of MZR as well as its immunosuppressive effect would warrant its use in the treatment of pediatric-onset glomerular *** further studies remain to be done,we believe that MZR may be an attractive treatment of choice for children with glomerular diseases from a histologic as well as clinical standpoint.

Several recent studies have reported the involvement of bladder dysfunction in the delayed recovery of urinary continence following radical prostatectomy （RP）. the objective of this study was to investigate the significance of detrusor overactivity （DO） as a predictor of the early continence status following robot-assisted RP （RARP）. this study included 84 consecutive patients with prostate cancer undergoing RARP. Urodynamic studies, including filling cystometry, pressure flow study, electromyogram of the external urethral sphincter and urethral pressure profile, were performed in these patients before surgery. Urinary continence was defined as the use of either no or one pad per day as a precaution only. DO was preoperatively observed in 30 patients （35.7%）, and 55 （65.5%） and 34 （40.5%） were judged to be incontinent 1 and 3 months after RARP, respectively. At both 1 and 3 months after RARP, the incidences of incontinence in patients with DO were significantly higher than in those without DO. Of several demographic and urodynamic parameters, univariate analyses identified DO and maximal urethral closure pressure （MUCP） as significant predictors of the continence status at both 1 and 3 months after RARP. Furthermore, DO and MUCP appeared to be independently associated with the continence at both I and 3 months after RARP on multivariate analysis. these findings suggest that preoperatively observed DO could be a significant predictor of urinary incontinence early after RARP; therefore, it is recommended to perform urodynamic studies for patients who are scheduled to undergo RARP in order to comprehensively evaluate their preoperative vesicourethral functions.

In recent years,various information and communication technology(ICt)devices measuring three-dimensional(3D)point cloud data have been developed and widely used for the application of pavement surface ***,ICt devices have generally been developed not only for measuring road surface profiles but for various geo-reference point *** this background,the validation of surface profiles acquired with ICt devices fulfils an important role in proving the reliability of measurement result composed by point *** study proposes a wavelet transform agreement(WtA)which involves a normalization factor of profile amplitude for further improvement in the wavelet-based coherence *** WtA analysis allows evaluating similarity/dissimilarity of two profiles considering both the location and wavelength *** this purpose,a terrestrial laser scanner(tLS),a mobile mapping system(MMS),and an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)are employed to prove the advantage of WtA in practical *** a result,the advantages of WtA analysis are clearly recognized in the optimization for the measurement interval of tLS,the multi-line measurement of MMS for ride quality improvement of a pavement,and the efficient operation of UAV in terms of the flight *** paper also shows the identification of aging development for surface roughness over time in terms of locations and *** findings help not only to guarantee the accuracy of profile measurements but to realize the sophisticated way of using 3D point clouds acquired with ICt *** outcomes of this study contribute to the increase of productivity for pavement works with improving the quality of surface profile measurement.

Embryonic stem(ES) cells are isolated from theinner cell mass of a blastocyst, and are used for the generation of gene-modified animals. In mice, the transplantation of gene-modified ES cells into recipient blastocysts leads to the creation of gene-targeted mice such as knock-in and knock-out mice; these gene-targeted mice contribute greatly to scientific development. Although the rat is considered a useful laboratory animal alongside the mouse, fewer genemodified rats have been produced due to the lack of robust establishment methods for rat ES cells. A new method for establishing rat ES cells using signaling inhibitors was reported in 2008. By considering the characteristics of rat ES cells, recent research has made progress in improving conditions for the stable culture of rat ES cells in order to generate gene-modified rats efficiently. In this review, we summarize several advanced methods to maintain rat ES cells and generate gene-targeted rats.

Recently,the demand for comprehension of mixed traffic in developing countries,particularly at roundabouts,which are highly interactive road junctions,has ***,we analyzed mixed traffic at roundabouts,considering Vietnam as a case *** two main objectives of this study were to characterize the mixed traffic in Vietnam and to determine the microscopic characteristics of motorcycles at ***,efforts were made to clarify the two constitutions of mixed traffic(the performance rule and the presence of small-sized vehicles),and the term“motorcycle-oriented mixed traffic”was *** when satisfying the two fundamental constitutions,this traffic state has unique features,e.g.,only one type of non-lane-based vehicle(the motorcycle)and the predominance of motorcycles in the traffic composition(91.7%).Second,four microscopic characteristics of motorcycles were obtained from a large dataset:the motorcycles’continuous changes in speed,the relationship between the turning angle rate and the speed,the critical gap,and the following *** relationship between the turning angle rate and the speed was first formulated as a power *** critical gap of motorcycles was estimated as a small value(1.25 s)in the case *** following spaces varied with respect to the speed and had an oval *** smallest lateral and longitudinal dimensions were 1.5 and 1.74 m,*** all the findings are meaningful,they are restricted to the case study(Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam).

this paper introduced a network centrality-based method to estimate the volume of trip attraction in traffic analysis zones. Usually trip attraction volumes are estimated based on land use characteristics. However, executing of land use-based trip attraction models are severely constrained by the lack of updated land use data in developing countries. the proposed method used network centrality-based explanatory variables as ＂connectivity＂, ＂local integration＂ and ＂global integration＂. Space syntax tools were used to compute the centrality of road segments. GIS-based kernel density estimation method was used to transform computed road segrnent-based centrality values into traffic analysis zone. trip attraction values exhibited significant high correlation with connectivity, global and local integration values. the study developed and validated model to estimate trip attraction by using connectivity, local integration and global integration values as endogenous variables with an accepted level of accuracy （R2 〉 0.75）. the proposed approach required minimal data, and it was easily executed using a geographic information system. the study rec- ommended the proposed method as a practical tool for transport planners and engineers, especially who work in developing countries and where updated land use data is unavailable.
