Anthropometric measurements, e.g., body weight （BW）, body mass index （BMI）, as well as serum prostate-specific antigen （PSA） and percent-free PSA （%fPSA） have been shown to have positive correlations with total prostate volume （TPV）. We developed an equation and nomogram for estimating TPV, incorporating these predictors in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH）. A total of 1852 men, including 1113 at Tokyo Medical and Dental University （TMDU） Hospital as a training set and 739 at Cancer Institute Hospital （CIH） as a validation set, with PSA levels of up to 20 ng m1-1, who underwent extended prostate biopsy and were proved to have BPH, were enrolled in this study. We developed an equation for continuously coded TPV and a logistic regression-based nomogram for estimating a TPV grater than 40 mh Predictive accuracy and performance characteristics were assessed using an area under the receiver operating characteristics curve （AUC） and calibration plots. The final linear regression model indicated age, PSA, %fPSA and BW as independent predictors of continuously coded TPV. For predictions in the training set, the multiple correlation coefficient was increased from 0.38 for PSA alone to 0.60 in the final model. We developed a novel nomogram incorporating age, PSA, %fPSA and BW for estimating TPV greater than 40 mh External validation confirmed its predictive accuracy, with AUC value of 0.764. Calibration plots showed good agreement between predicted probability and observed proportion. In conclusion, TPV can be easily estimated using these four independent predictors.

Background: The world of cancer care is an emotional place, given the severity of the disease being treated, the heavy workload, the suffering of patients, and the high number of deaths. The nursing staff who work there may be exposed to constant stress from these factors. This study aimed to explore the psychological experience of the nursing staff of the Medical Oncology Department of the Yaoundé General Hospital. Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional study, in June 2017, involving the nursing staff of the Medical Oncology Department of the Yaoundé General Hospital. Results: Sixteen out of 18 nurses were interviewed. All had worked in at least one other department prior to Oncology. The number of years of experience in Oncology ranged from less than one year to 13 years. The choice of the Oncology department was involuntary for 100% of the staff;of these, 62% had intentions of changing departments. Twenty-five percent had applied for a change of department, which was unsuccessful. Stress was expressed by 94% of the staff;93% thought that there was a solution to the stress experienced on a daily basis in the Oncology department. The main solutions proposed to manage this stress were: support for the staff, provision of work materials, and staff training. Conclusion: The nursing staff of the Medical Oncology Department of the Yaoundé General Hospital experiences a high level of stress and are in need of solutions.

Background: Radiotherapy is one of the main therapeutic strategies used in cervical cancer. The first radiotherapy services in Cameroon have existed since 1987 and still treat by conventional radiation techniques. With the evolution of radiation techniques, acute, subacute, and late complications are minimized. Our study aimed to describe the profile of side effects in patients with uterine cervix cancer treated by conventional radiotherapy, still used in our services. Methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study of the records of patients treated in the radiotherapy department of the Douala General Hospital from January 2015 to December 2019. Data concerning radiation-induced toxicities were collected using the CTCAE Version 4.0 classification. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 20.0. Results: A total of 270 records were selected. The median age was 54 years. The mean total radiation dose was 55.9 ± 11.8 Gy and 71.1% of patients were treated for less than 8 weeks. We found a frequency of 66.7% of radio-induced lesions with 99% being acute. The main acute lesions encountered were radio dermatitis (40%), radiation cystitis (17.7%), and radiation proctitis (17.1%). As late lesions, we found one case of vaginal fibrosis (0.4%). Exclusive radiotherapy, classical fractionation, and total doses lower than 45 Gy seemed to decrease the toxicity linked to conventional radiotherapy. Conclusion: The frequency of side effects of radiotherapy for cervical cancer at the Douala General Hospital remains high. Early lesions are the most encountered but strategies should be put in place to better evaluate late lesions.

Two de novo DNA methyltransferases, Dnmt3a and Dnmt3b, have been identified in humans and mice to contribute to the methylation of unmodified DNA. We recently showed a transition of de novo DNA methyltransferase expression from Dnmt3b to Dnmt3a during mouse embryogenesis and in tissue-specific stem cells, suggesting distinct functions of Dnmt3a and Dnmt3b during these processes. In this study, to characterize the functions of Dnmt3a and Dnmt3b in pluripotent stem cells, we exogenously transfected ES cells with Dnmt3a and Dnmt3b cDNAs linked to an internal ribosome entry site-green fluorescent protein gene, and then analyzed the effects of expression of these de novo DNA methyltransferases on ES cell growth and differentiation. ES cells expressing Dnmt3b showed specific downregulation of pluripotency marker genes such as Nanog and Oct 3/4. In addition, Dnmt3a-transfected ES cells showed a specific increase in mitotic index, while Dnmt3b-transfected ES cells showed a decrease in mitotic index. These results suggest that Dnmt3b has important physiological roles in the initial process of stem cell differentiation and that Dnmt3a has a function in stem cell proliferation.

For the supply of fish and shellfish to consumers in fresh condition, clean handling after catch from the sea is es-sential. According to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), it is important to meet such requirement bykeeping fish and shellfish under a certain low temperature and clean conditions after catching. The deep ocean water(DOW) characterized by low temperature and cleanliness has been chosen for fish and shellfish handlings, particularly forsalmon, cod, and sea urchin in Town ’Rausu’ in Hokkaido, Japan. DOW below 2.9°C of an amount of nearly 5 000m3 isplanned to be pumped up every day from a depth of about 350 m, and temporarily stored in a large simulated tank on *** is then supplied to fish boats through hydrants distributed throughout the harbor and used for keeping salmon in cleanand cold conditions. Ice made from DOW is also used for lowering temperature if necessary. DOW and ice made from DOWare also used during the transportation of fish and shellfish. The entire system is scheduled to be completed by the summer of2005.

To the Editor： A 36-year-old man with intermittent migraine-like headache with aura for 20 years underwent cerebrovascular computed tomography angiography （CTA） revealing very small calibers of bilateral internal carotid arteries （ICAs） in other hospital. He was admitted to our hospital for further examination several days later. He had no vascular risk factors, and no family history of atherosclerotic or cerebrovascular diseases. On admission, general physical and neurological examinations were normal and vascular systolic murmur was not detected in the neck. Blood tests, including items relevant to diabetes, dyslipidemia, and vasculitis, were unremarkable.

BACKGROUND With sentinel node metastasis in breast cancer(BC)patients,axillary lymph node(ALN)dissection is often omitted from cases with breast-conserving *** of lymph node dissection reduces the invasiveness of surgery to the patient,but it also obscures the number of metastases to non-sentinel *** possibility of finding≥4 lymph nodes(pN2a/pN3a)preoperatively is important given the ramifications for postoperative *** To search for clinicopathological factors that predicts upstaging from N0 to pN2a/*** Patients who were sentinel lymph node(SLN)-positive and underwent ALN dissection between September 2007 and August 2018 were selected by retrospective chart *** patients had BC diagnosed preoperatively as N0 with axillary evaluation by fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography and ultrasound (US)examination. When suspicious FDG accumulation was found in ALN, the presence of metastasiswas reevaluated by second US. We examined predictors of upstaging from N0 to pN2a/*** 135 patients, we identified 1-3 ALNs (pN1) in 113 patients and ³4 ALNs (pN2a/pN3a) in22 patients. Multivariate analysis identified the total number of SLN metastasis, the maximaldiameter of metastasis in the SLN (SLNDmax), and FDG accumulation of ALN as predictors ofupstaging to pN2a/*** identified factors involved in upstaging from N0 to pN2a/pN3a. The SLNDmax and numberof SLN metastasis are predictors of ≥ 4 ALNs (pN2a/pN3a) and predictors of metastasis to nonsentinelnodes, which have been reported in the past. Attention should be given to axillaryaccumulations of FDG, even when faint.

Contact analysis can be either static or dynamic. In static contact analysis, the position on the contact surface is constant. In dynamic contact analysis, the position on the contact surface changes at every time step. In static contact analysis, the computing results (stress, strain, etc.) of contact states have been verified through the Hertz contact problem in literature. On the other hand, there has been insufficient research into dynamic contact analysis. The contact algorithm is insufficiently constructed in finite element model (FEM) discretization. The gap between two objects cannot be calculated accurately. A contact method is demanded for artificial parameters. Inappropriate setting of artificial parameters causes artificial numerical oscillations on the contact surface between objects. To develop a high-reliability satellite, we started the development of FEM contact-friction modeling techniques in this study. A dynamic contact method was realized by using the appropriate parameters required in the contact analysis. We verified the reproducibility of the physical behavior of the contact friction via numerical simulation techniques by using a computational model of the hinge joints.

Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is a major cause of chronic gastritis and gastric ulcers and considerable evidence supports the notion that infection with this bacterium is also associated with gastric malignancy in addition to various other conditions including pulmonary, vascular and autoimmune disorders. Gastric juice infected with H. pylori might play an important role in upper respiratory tract infection. Although direct and/or indirect mechanisms might be involved in the association between H. pylori and upper respiratory tract diseases, the etiological role of H. pylori in upper respiratory tract disorders has not yet been fully elucidated. Although various studies over the past two decades have suggested a relationship between H. pylori and upper respiratory tract diseases, the findings are inconsistent. The present overview describes the outcomes of recent investigations into the impact of H. pylori on upper respiratory tract and adjacent lesions.
