A NEW HIGH ORDER SCHEME FOR CONVECTION EQUATION AND ITS APPLICATION

With the undetermined coefficient method, a new high order scheme for convection equation named as HAUC was worke d out. The accuracy of the new scheme was analyzed by comparing the computed res ults with the exact solutions of 1-D pure convection equation and nonlinear con vection equation. The effectiveness of the HAUC was also examined by comparing w ith the results obtained by other schemes. Finally, it was applied to simulate 1 -D dam break flow with differenct ratios of initial upstream water depth to do wnstream one. The results show that the scheme has the ability to simulate both undular bores and moving hydraulic jumps.

Sorption Characteristics of CO2on Rocks and Minerals in Storing CO2Processes

As CO2 is injected into pore spaces of water-filled reservoir rocks, it displaces much of the pore fluids. In short terms (several to tens of years), the greater part of the injected CO2 is predicted to stay as free CO2 , i.e. in a CO2 rich dense phase that may contain some water. This paper investigates the sorption characteristics for rocks (quartzose arenite, greywacke, shale, granite and serpentine) and minerals (quartz and albite) in the CO2 rich dense phase. The measurements were conducted at 50°C and 100°C, and pressures up to 20 MPa. Our results demonstrated that significant quantities of CO2 were sorbed with all the samples. Particularly, at 50°C and 100°C, quartzose arenite showed largest sorption capacity among the other samples in higher pressures (>10 MPa). Furthermore, comparison with model prediction based on the pore filling model, which assumed that CO2 acts as filling pore spaces of the rocks and minerals, suggested the importance of the sorption mechanism in the CO2 geological storage in addition to the pore-filling mechanism. The present results should be pointed out that the sorption characteristics may have significant and meaningful effect on the assessment of CO2 storage capacity in geological media.

Determining factors for carotid mean/max intima-media thickness and brachial flow-mediated dilation in healthy young women

Background: Many factors can contribute to atherosclerotic-type vascular changes in older individuals or men. Thus, confining the investigation to young women with no clinical evidence of the condition could enhance understanding of the early stages of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to determine whether carotid mean/max intima-media thickness (IMT) and brachial flow-mediated dilation (FMD) values, which are well-known event-related indices, are associated with laboratory data and the other vascular indices of atherosclerosis in healthy young women. Methods: Carotid mean/max IMT and brachial FMD were measured in young women with no clinical evidence of atherosclerosis (n = 110;mean age, 39 years) who were instructed not to eat, drink or smoke after 9 PM the evening before testing. All participants also underwent laboratory assessment, including simultaneous measurements of arterial stiffness such as augmentation index (AI), cardioankle vascular index (CAVI) and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV). Results: Mean IMT was signifi-cantly and positively associated with age (p = 0.002), CAVI (p = 0.044), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C, p = 0.047) and high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP, p = 0.002) values but was not related to FMD, AI, baPWV or triglycerides (TG) in the multivariate regression analysis. Similarly, max IMT was positively associated with age (p p = 0.003) and hs-CRP (p = 0.005) values but was not related to FMD, AI, CAVI, baPWV, TG or blood pressure level in the multivariate regression analysis. The association between LDL-C and max IMT was much stronger than that between LDL-C and mean IMT. Brachial FMD was positively associated only with heart rate in the multivariate regression analysis. Conclusions: These results suggest that mean IMT more closely represents the sclerotic aspect of vascular change, whereas max IMT represents the atherotic aspect in healthy young women. Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition of Nb and F Co-Doped TiO2Layer

Nb and F co-doped anatase TiO2 layers were deposited by low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) at pressure of 3 mtorr using titanium-tetra-iso-propoxide (TTIP), O2 and NbF5 as precursor, oxidant and dopant respectively. Resistivity beyond 100 Ωcm for undoped layer was decreased with increasing supply of the dopant and dependent on the supply ratio of O2 to TTIP and decreased to 0.2 Ωcm by the optimization. X-ray fluorescent spectroscopy showed Nb-content in the layer was decreased with the O2-supply ratio. X-ray photo-spectroscopy indicated that F substituted O-site in TiO2 by O2-supply but carbon-contamination and F missing substitution in the O-site were significantly increased by excess O2-supply. Further, it was suggested that the substituted F played an important role to reduce resistivity without significant contribution of O-vacancies. XRD spectra showed F missing substitution in the O-site degraded the crystallinity.

AIM To assess the clinical characteristics of patients with complicated erosive esophagitis(EE) and their associated *** This prospective, cross-sectional study included patients diagnosed with EE by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy between October 2014 and March 2015 at 106 Japanese hospitals. Data on medical history, general condition, gastrointestinal symptoms, lifestyle habits, comorbidities, and endoscopic findings were collected using a standard form to create a dedicated database. Logistic regression analysis was used to calculate adjusted odds ratios(aO R) and 95%CI for the association with complicated *** During the study period, 1749 patients diagnosed with EE, 38.3% of whom were prescribed proton pump inhibitors(PPIs) were included. Of them, 143(8.2%) had EE complications. Esophageal bleeding occurred in 84(4.8%) patients, esophageal strictures in 45(2.6%) patients, and 14(0.8%) patients experienced both. Multivariate analysis showed that increased age(a OR: 1.05; 95%CI: 1.03-1.08), concomitant use of psychotropic agents(a OR: 6.51; 95%CI: 3.01-13.61), and Los Angeles grades B(a OR: 2.69; 95%CI: 1.48-4.96), C(aO R: 15.38; 95%CI: 8.62-28.37), and D(aO R: 71.49; 95%CI: 37.47-142.01) were significantly associated with complications, whereas alcohol consumption 2-4 d/wk was negatively associated(a OR: 0.23; 95%CI: 0.06-0.61). Three pairs of novel 2-aryl-3,4,5-trihydroxypiperidines （6-8 and their enantiomers）, the piperidine analogues of the pyrrolidine alkaloids radicamine A and radicamine B, were prepared from six- membered cyclic nitrones through a concise two-step procedure, i.e., Grignard reagent addition and deprotection. These novel polyhydroxylated piperidine iminosugars were assayed against 10 types of enzymes. Only compound 8 exhibited weak inhibition （IC50 1080 μmol/L） against β-galactosidase from rat intestinal lactases.

Improvement in symptoms after H_2-receptor antagonist-based therapy for eradication of H pylori infection

AIM: To investigate the therapeutic effects of triple therapy combining lafutidine with clarithromycin and amoxicillin on H pylori infection and the resolution of gastroesophageal symptoms after eradication. METHODS: We conducted a randomized, multicenter, open-label controlled trial to compare the effective-ness of a triple therapy of lafutidine, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin (lafutidine group) with that of a triple therapy of lansoprazole, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin (lansopra- zole group) in patients with H pylori infection. The study group comprised 22 patients with gastric ulcers and 18 patients with duodenal ulcers who had H pylori infection. RESULTS: H pylori eradication rates were similar in the lafutidine group (14/20, 70%) and the lansoprazole group (14/20, 70%). Gastroesophageal reflux and ab-dominal symptoms improved after eradication therapy in both groups, whereas abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, and constipation were unchanged. H pylori status had no apparent effect on improvement of gastroesophageal reflux or abdominal symptoms after treatment. Adverse events were similar in both groups. CONCLUSION: The triple therapy including lafutidine is equivalent to triple therapy including lansoprazole in terms of H pylori eradication rates and improvement in gastroesophageal reflux and abdominal *** results are attributed to the fact that lafutidine has strong, continuous antisecretory activity, unaffected by CYP2C19 polymorphisms.

Acute pancreatitis successfully diagnosed by diffusion-weighted imaging: A case report

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is an established diagnostic method of acute stroke. The latest advances in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology have greatly expanded the utility of DWI in the examination of various organs. Recent studies have revealed the usefulness of DWI for imaging of the liver, kidney, ovary, and breast. We report a patient with acute pancreatitis detected by DWI and discussed the efficacy of DWI in diagnosing acute pancreatitis. A 50-year old man presented with a primary complaint of abdominal pain. We performed both DWI and computed tomography (CT) for this patient. The signal intensity in a series of DWI was measured and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values were calculated to differentiate inflammation from normal tissue. Two experienced radiologists evaluated the grade of acute pancreatitis by comparing the CT findings. Initially, the pancreas and multiple ascites around the pancreas produced a bright signal and ADC values were reduced on DWI. As the inflammation decreased, the bright signal faded to an iso-signal and the ADC values returned to their normal level. There was no difference in the abilities of DWI and CT images to detect acute pancreatitis. However, our case indicates that DWI can evaluate the manifestations of acute pancreatitis using no enhancement material andhas the potential to replace CT as a primary diagnostic strategy for acute pancreatitis.
