Diarrhea is a prevalent gastrointestinal problem associated with fatal *** is a huge public health concern that requires better alternatives to current *** study investigated the mechanisms involved in the antidiarrheal activity of Anacardium occidentale(Ao) stem bark extract,a plant commonly used in the management of diarrhea in *** stem bark extract of the plant was partitioned into three fractions:hexane fraction,ethyl acetate fraction(Ao EF) and methanol *** vitro studies on the effect of these fractions on guinea pig ileum(GPI) strips,as well as the modulatory effect of Ao EF on standard agonists-and antagonists-induced GPI contraction and relaxation,revealed Ao EF as the most active *** vivo studies to assess the effect of Ao EF on the dopaminergic,muscarinic,and serotonergic pathways were carried out using gastric emptying(GE) and gastrointestinal transit(GT) as experimental end *** EF was subjected to GC-mS analysis,while the identified compounds were docked with the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor m3(CHRm3) using Autodock *** indicated that Ao EF inhibited GE and GT via inhibition of *** addition,GC-mS analysis revealed the presence of 24 compounds in Ao EF,while docking indicated that octadecanoic acid 2-(2-hydroxylethoxy)ethyl ester exhibited the highest binding affinity to *** study indicated that the antidiarrheal activity of Ao is through its antimotility effect via the inhibition of the muscarinic *** since none of the identified compounds exhibited higher binding affinity to CHRm3 relative to loperamide,the antimotility activity of these phytoconstituents may be via synergism.

Polluted populations of Euphorbia heterophylla, Chromolaena odorata, Commelina diffusa and Kyllinga pumila were collected fresh from 0.1 m to 0.25 m radii of the exhausted-pipe of power generators used for domestic purposes, whereas, their non-polluted counterparts were collected from distances of 100-110 m away. The length and width of 10 leaves, each of both polluted and non-polluted populations, were measured. Their average leaf areas （LA） were 2.60 ± 0.1 cm2, 14.16 ±0.4 cm2, 5.19 ± 0.8 cm2 and 1.80 ±0.8 cm2 for the polluted populations of each of the species, respectively. Whereas, the LA of their non-polluted counterparts were 4.18±0.7 cm2, 34.39 ±0.2 cm2, 7.51± 0.1 cm2 and 10.76 ± 0.3 cm2, respectively. Damages such as plugged stomatal pores, epidermal cell aberrations and erosion, ruptured stomatal ledges, occasional leaf perforations, irregularly fused cell boundaries and glued leaf surfaces were noticeable in the leaves of the polluted populations. Such were not observed in the non-polluted populations. It was suggested that foliar morphology of these group of plants could serve as phytometer to gauge the threats of power generators used in homes to terrestrial ecosystem.

Introduction: men without sperm (azoospermic) make up about 15% of all infertile men in reproductive age of fatherhood. male infertility is a health and social problem in many communities. Subjects and methods: This retrospective study was carried from 2010 to 2015. Initially, 907 men were included in the study among whom 109 (12.02%), 346 (38.15%) and 452 (49.83%) were azoospermic, oligospermic and normospermic, respectively. This study only investigated the association between age, BmI, semen volume, liquefaction time and pus cells among normospermic and azoospermic men. Standard semen analysis was performed and subjects were categorized by age into Results: The 562 subjects of the study had means (±sd) age of 42.6 (±7.10) years and BmI of 27.0 (4.1) kg/m2 respectively. In all, 109 (19.4%) were azoospermic. Overweight and obese men were, respectively, more than 1? and about 2? times more likely to be azoospermic compared to normal weight men. Azoospermic men were significantly heavier than men with normal sperm count (t = -0.34;P-value = 0.003). Among those with normal weight, liquefaction time was significantly shorter (t = 5.49, P-value = 0.000001) in azoospermic (28.70 min.) than in men with normal sperm count (31.82 min.). Obese azoospermic men were about 4 times as likely to have high pus cells in semen than normal weight azoospermic men (OR = 3.82;95% CI: 0.39, 37.01). multivariate regression analysis shows a strong but negative coefficient correlation between sperm concentration and BmI (coef. = -0.48, Std Err. = 0.25, P-value = 0.05, 95% CI: -0.96, 0.10). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that high BmI is associated with azoospermia. Azoospermia also did not seem to negatively impact liquefaction time.

molybdenum oxodithiocarbamate was prepared as thin films which were deposited on sodalime glass a single solid source precursor for molybdenum oxysulphide substrates using metal organic chemical vapour deposition （mOCVD） technique at a temperature of 420~C. Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy （RBS） was used to determine the elemental composition of the film which showed that the films contained large amounts of oxygen. The large amount of oxygen was attributed to the large abundance of oxygen in the starting material. A direct optical energy gap of 3.31 eV was obtained from the analysis of the absorption spectrum. The scanning electron microscopy （SEm） micrographs of the films showed that the films were continuous and porous. An estimated average size of the grains was below 5 #m. X-ray diffraction （XRD） showed that the deposited films were crystalline in nature.

Soil degradation is a growing problem worldwide because it reduces the fertile top layer of the soil available for food production and one such degradative action is soil erosion due to the harvesting of *** loss due to crop harvesting with particular reference to yam tubers has not been quantified globally despite the fact that yam is a major staple food consumed worldwide and it is prevalent in many parts of *** yams in our environment is usually done with the soil attached to the yams due to the fact that farmers do not want additional work of removing soil attached to the *** study investigates the soil physical properties that influence soil loss due to yam harvesting in Abeokuta,South-Western Nigeria and to assess the quantity of soil loss due to yam *** on representative sampling area per location,yam tubers were harvested manually within the entire yam farmland from October to December *** weight,net weight and the amount of soil adhering to the yams were *** of soil physical properties such as soil moisture content,heap bulk density,inter-heap bulk density and soil texture were investigated with respect to soil *** results showed that moisture content ranged from 4%to 15%,heap bulk density ranged from 0.93 to 1.29 g cm^(-3) and inter-heap bulk density ranged from 1.03 to 1.50 g cm^(-3).They all had a positive correlation with soil *** particle size analysis for Federal University of Agricultural,Abeokuta(FUNAAB)and Alabata revealed that sand content was(86.78%and 88.32%),clay content(10.69%and 7.6%)and silt content,(2.53%and 4.08%)*** also revealed that clay content of the soil positively influenced the total soil loss during the yam *** mean soil losses in Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta(FUNAAB)and Alabata village yam farms were 4303 and 2125 kg/ha/harvest *** study also revealed that soil moisture content at harvesting time and clay

The brain's extracellular matrix(ECm),which is comprised of protein and glycosaminoglycan(GAG)scaffolds,constitutes 20%-40% of the human brain and is considered one of the largest influencers on brain cell functioning(Soles et al.,2023).Synthesized by neural and glial cells,the brain's ECm regulates a myriad of homeostatic cellular processes,including neuronal plasticity and firing(miyata et al.,2012),cation buffering(moraws ki et al.,2015),and glia-neuron interactions(Anderson et al.,2016).Considering the diversity of functions,dynamic remodeling of the brain's ECm indicates that this understudied medium is an active participant in both normal physiology and neurological diseases.
