Insecticidal toxicity of two bruchid-resistant cowpea cultivar powders as cowpea seed protectants against Callosobruchus maculatus(Fab.)(Coleoptera:Chrysomelidae)

Toxicity of bruchid-resistant cultivars MIT04K-399-1 and MIT07K-299-92 powders as cowpea protectants against Callosobruchus maculatus(Fab.)was investigated at an ambient temperature of 28±2°C and a relative humidity of 75±5%.Their efficacy was tested at dosage,0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0,2.5,and 3.0 g/20 g of cowpea seeds on adult mortality,oviposition,adult emergence,progeny development,seed damage,weight loss,and Beetle Perforation Index(BPI)by cowpea *** result showed that toxicity of the bruchid-resistant cowpea cultivar powders on adult bruchid is dosage-and *** a dosage of 3.0 g/20 g,cultivars MIT04K-399-1 and MIT07K-299-92 powders achieved 70%and 72.5%lethal effect on adult *** after 4 days of treatment,*** and percentage adult emergence of *** decrease with an increase in powder ***,reduction in progeny development of *** increases with an increase in powder *** mean number of adult emergence decreased at 2 g/20 g,2.5 g/20 g and 3 g/20 *** MIT04K-399-1 and MIT07K-299-92 powders significantly affected egg *** MIT07K-299-92 powder was more effective against oviposition and adult emergence at higher concentrations than MIT04K-399-1 powder,an effect that was not significantly different(P>0.05)from each *** BPI of 9.1 and 6.2 was recorded on cowpea seeds treated with MIT04K-399-1 and MIT07K-299-92 powders at a dosage of 3 g/20 g,*** fear of residual toxicity on nontargeted organisms is not associated with the use of resistant cowpea cultivars as seed *** farmers are familiar with the technology involved in the preparation and application of powders as *** of bruchid-resistant cowpea cultivars MIT04K-399-1 and MIT07K-299-92 powders into the management of coleopteran pests will ensure availability of viable seeds for future farming in developing nations such as Nigeria.

Alstonia boonei de Wild oil extract in the management of mosquito(Anopheles gambiae),a vector of malaria disease

Objective:To evaluate the insecticidal potential of Alstonia boonei(***)oils and derivatives against different life stages of a malaria vector,Anopheles ***:The leaf,stem bark and root bark of *** were collected from an open field and air dried before being blended to fine *** from this plant were extracted by cold extraction and were prepared at different *** toxicity of *** was tested against the larvae and pupae of the insect while smoke toxicity of the plant materials in form of mosquito coil was tested against the adult ***:Alstodine recorded the highest insect mortality rate and the order of susceptibility of the life stages of the insect to the plant was pupaedultded the highest repellant activity(100%)after 4-5 h of ***,all the treatments achieved high repellency(above 70%)after 6-7 h of application compared with the *** formulated mosquito coil(smoke)of *** oil extracts and derivatives showed high rate of protectability as they achieved above 55%***,alstodine(83.22%)showed the greatest smoke toxicity effect on the insect as it recorded almost the same percentage protection as the positive control(Raid synthetic insecticide)which recorded 83.56%***:This present study has proven *** oil extracts and derivatives as a potential botanical insecticide which could serve as a new thoroughfare of mosquito ***,the order of effectiveness of the plant can be arranged thus:alstodine>alstonine>stem bark extract>leaf extract>root bark extract.

Although many causes of Alzheimer’s disease(Ad)may exist,both the original amyloid cascade and tau hypotheses posit that abnormal misfolding and accumulation of amyloid-β(Aβ)and tau protein is the central event causing the ***,that conclusion could be only partly true,and there is conflicting evidence about the role of both proteins in Ad,being able to precede and influence one *** researchers argue that these proteins are mere executors rather than primary causes of ***,there have been continuing refinements of both hypotheses,with alternative explanations proposed.Aβand tau proteins may be independently involved in specific neurotoxic pathways;yet there may be other crucial processes going on in early ***,accumulating evidence suggests that Aβand tau act synergistically,rather than additively in disease onset(Jeremic et al.,2021,2023a).

Functional recovery from central nervous system(CNS)trauma depends not only on axon regeneration or compensatory sprouting of uninjured fibers but also on the ability of newly grown axons to establish functional synapses with appropriate *** several studies have successfully promoted long-distance axonal regeneration in distinct CNS injury models,none of them have resulted in a viable therapeutic approach for patient recovery.A possible reason may be the lack of new synaptogenesis for reestablishing the circuitry lost after ***,we discuss how our understanding of the mechanisms that instruct synapse formation in the injured nervous system may contribute to the design of new strategies to promote functional restoration in traumatic CNS disorders.

Parquetina nigrescens leaves： chemical profile and influence on the physical and biochemical indices of sexual activity of male Wistar rats

OBJECTIVE： The leaves of Parquetina nigrescens have been claimed in folk medicine to be useful for managing sexual dysfunction, but there is inadequate scientific evidence for this claim. This investigation was conducted to assess the effects of aqueous leaf extract of Parquetina nigrescens （AEPN） in rats induced with sexual dysfunction. METHOdS： Male rats were allocated into various groups after being induced into sexual dysfunction with paroxetine hydrochloride. The groups were treated with distilled water, PowMaxM （reference drug）, and the AEPN at 20, 40 and 80 mg/kg body weight （BW） respectively for 7 d. Frequencies of mount （MF）, intromission （IF）, ejaculation （EF）, as well as latencies of mount （ML）, intromission （IL） and post - ejaculatory interval （PEI） were progressively monitored with receptive female rats on days 1, 3 and 7. The precentage of mounted, intromitted, and ejaculated rats, intromission ratio （IR）, copulatory efficiency （CE） and intercopulatory interval （ICI） were also computed. Standard methods were employed to determine the levels of serum luteinizing and follicle stimulating hormones （LH and FSH）, testosterone, nitric oxide （NO） and the activity of phosphodiesterase V （PdE5）. RESULTS： The plant contained alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, steroids, tannins, phlobatannins, cardenolides, phenolics, anthraquinones and triterpenes with alkaloids （2.32 mg/g） occurring in greatest quantity while flavonoids, anthraquinones and cardenolides （0.01 mg/g, each） were the least. All the 20 standard amino acids were detected in the plant leaf, with the lowest concentration being 0.30 mg/g for methionine and the highest being 2.12 mg/g for cysteine. Furthermore, P. nigrescens leaves contained Na, K, Fe, Mg, Zn, Ca, Cu, Mn, P, Pb, Cd, Ni, Cr, and Co, with Fe present in the highest and Co the lowest concentrations. Antioxidant defense system induced by cysteinestabilized peptide fraction of aqueous extract of Morinda lucida leaf in selected tissues of Plasmodium berghei-infected mice

OBJECTIVE： This study evaluated the responses of some antioxidant parameters in selected tissues of Plasmodium berghei-infected mice treated with cysteine-stabilized peptide fraction（CSPF） of aqueous extract of Morinda lucida ***：Fifty-six mice were randomly divided into seven *** A（normal control）was uninfected and received 5%dimethyl sulfoxide（dMSO）.Mice in Groups B（negative control）,C,d,E and F were inoculated with *** NK65 and were administered with 5%dMSO and 15.63,31.25,61.5 and 125 mg/kg body weight of CSPF *** G animals,were also inoculated with *** NK65,and received 20 mg/kg body weight of *** administration lasted for three days,after which malondialdehyde（MdA）concentration and various antioxidant parameters in selected tissues of mice were determined on days 4 and 8 ***：The results revealed that MdA concentration was significantly increased（P〈0.05）in the tissues of the negative control and chloroquine-treated *** increased MdA concentration was reduced by CSPF in a dose-dependent manner,which was significant（P〈0.05）at higher *** activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase,glutathione peroxidase,glutathione reductase and glutathioneS-transferase and the concentration of reduced glutathione were significantly reduced（P〈0.05）in the tissues of the negative control animals compared to the normal *** observed reduction in the negative control animals was reverted in a dose-dependent manner in infected animals given CSPF,even to the range of the normal controls at highest dose,as did ***：The results suggest that CSPF of *** leaf extract may induce the antioxidant defense system in vivo against Plasmodium species infection.

Mechanically durable transparent electrodes are essential for achieving long-term stability in flexible optoelectronic ***,they are crucial for applications in the fields of energy,display,healthcare,and soft *** meshes represent a promising alternative to traditional,brittle,metal oxide conductors due to their high electrical conductivity,optical transparency,and enhanced mechanical *** this paper,we present a simple method for fabricating an ultra-transparent conducting metal oxide mesh electrode using selfcracking-assisted *** this method,we produced an electrode with ultra-transparency(97.39%),high conductance(Rs=21.24Ωsq^(−1)),elevated work function(5.16 eV),and good mechanical *** also evaluated the effectiveness of the fabricated electrodes by integrating them into organic photovoltaics,organic light-emitting diodes,and flexible transparent memristor devices for neuromorphic computing,resulting in exceptional device *** addition,the unique porous structure of the vanadium-doped indium zinc oxide mesh electrodes provided excellent flexibility,rendering them a promising option for application in flexible optoelectronics.
