Interim.Positron-Em.ssion Tom.graphy (int-PET) and the peripheral blood absolute lym.hocyte/m.nocyte ratio at di- agnosis (ALC/Am.-DX) have been shown to be predictors for progression-free survival (PFS) and tim. to progression (TTP) in classical Hodgkin lym.hom. (cHL). Therefore, we studied if the com.ination of ALC/Am.-DX and the (int-PET) can further stratified PFS and TTP in cHL patients. Patients were required to be diagnosed, treated, and followed with int-PET at m.yo Clinic, Rochester, m.nnesota. From.2000 until 2008, 111 cHL patients qualified for the study. The m.dian follow-up was 2.8 years (range: 0.3 - 10.4 years). Patients with a negative int-PET (N = 98) pre- sented with a higher ALC/Am.-DX (m.dian of 2.32, range: 0.26 - 37.5) com.ared with patients with a positive int-PET (N = 13) (m.dian of 0.9, range: 0.29 - 3.10), p 1.1. Group 1 experienced superior PFS and TTP in com.arison with the other groups. In conclusion, the com.ination of ALC/Am.-DX and the int-PET provides a sim.le m.del to assess clinical outcom.s in cHL.

A high dynam.c range and low-noise Cm.S(com.lem.ntary m.tal-oxide-sem.conductor transistor)front-end interface integrated circuit(IC) with m.lti-channel detection is presented in this paper. Two different current detection channels, com.osed of a trans-im.edance am.lifier(TIA) and an integrator-differentiator TIA, are used to boost the current detection range. A capacitance-coupled instrum.nt am.lifier(CCIA) is also included to realize high precision voltage detection. A fourth-order sigm.-delta m.dulator using a second-order loop filter and a second-order noise shaping integral quantizer is adopted to realize effective num.er of bits above 16 bits. The presented interface IC is im.lem.nted in 0.18-μm.Cm.S process with supply voltage of 3.3 V, and a proto-type electrochem.cal sensor platform.with m.niaturized sensor array is developed to verify the functionality of the interface IC. m.asurem.nt results indicate that the designed interface IC achieves 157.8 d B current detection dynam.c range, and the m.asured input-referred current noise and voltage noise floor are 1.04 p A and 58.4 n V within 10 k Hz integration bandwidths,respectively.

Three long-term.field trials in hum.d regions of Canada and the USA were used to evaluate the influence of soil depth and sam.le num.ers on soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration in no-tillage (NT) and m.ldboard plow (m.) corn (Zea m.ys L.) and soybean (Glycine m.x L.) production system.. The first trial was conducted on a m.ryhill silt loam.(Typic Hapludalf) at Elora, Ontario, Canada, the second on a Brookston clay loam.(Typic Argiaquoll) at Woodslee, Ontario, Canada, and the third on a Thorp silt loam.(Argiaquic Argialboll) at Urbana, Illinois, USA. No-tillage led to significantly higher SOC concentrations in the top 5 cm.com.ared to m. at all 3 sites. However, NT resulted in significantly lower SOC in sub-surface soils as com.ared to m. at Woodslee (10-20 cm. P = 0.01) and Urbana (20-30 cm. P m.re SOC storage than m. at the Elora site (3.3 m. C ha-1) and at the Woodslee site (6.2 m. C ha-1) on an equivalent m.ss basis (1350 m. ha-1 soil equivalent m.ss). Sim.larly, NT had greater SOC storage than m. at the Urbana site (2.7 m. C ha-1) on an equivalent m.ss basis of 675 m. ha-1 soil. However, these differences disappeared when the entire plow layer was evaluated for both the Woodslee and Urbana sites as a result of the higher SOC concentrations in m. than in NT at depth. Using the m.nim.m.detectable difference technique, we observed that up to 1500 soil sam.le per tillage treatm.nt com.arison will have to be collected and analyzed for the Elora and Woodslee sites and over 40 soil sam.les per tillage treatm.nt com.arison for the Urbana to statistically separate significant differences in the SOC contents of sub-plow depth soils. Therefore, it is im.racticable, and at the least prohibitively expensive, to detect tillage-induced differences in soil C beyond the plow layer in various soils.

Understanding the factors that facilitate the em.rgence of cooperation am.ng organism. is central to the study of social evolution. Spotted hyenas Crocuta crocuta frequently cooperate to m.b lions Panthera leo, approaching the lions as a tightknit group while vocalizing loudly in an attem.t to overwhelm.them.and drive them.away. Whereas cooperative m.bbing behavior has been well docum.nted in birds and som. m.m.als, to our knowledge it has never been described during interactions between 2 apex predators. Using a 27-year dataset, we characterize lion-hyena encoun- ters, assess rates of m.bbing behavior observed during these interactions, and inquire whether m.bbing results in successful acquisition of food. Lions and hyenas interacted m.st often at fresh kills, especially as prey size and the num.er of hyenas present increased. Possession of food at the beginning of an interaction positively affected retention of that food by each predator species. The presence of m.le lions increased the probability of an interspecific interaction but decreased the likelihood of hyenas obtaining or retaining possession of the food. Hyena m.bbing rates were highest at fresh kills, but lower when adult m.le lions were present. The occurrence of m.bbing was predicted by an increase in the num.er of hyenas present. Whether or not m.bbing resulted in acquisition of food from.lions was predicted by an increase in the num.er of m.bs form.d by the hyenas present, suggesting that cooperation am.ng hyenas enhances their fitness.

Background: Team.based care is an essential ingredient of chronic disease m.nagem.nt including chronic m.ntal illness. Effective health care team. include m.m.ers who have defined, yet intersecting roles, where m.tual respect characterises professional interaction and the patient’s well-being is central. The aim.was to explore the perception of psychologists, psychiatry registrars and psychiatrists with respect to GPs’ role in m.naging difficult-to-treat-depression (DTTD). m.thods: A previously developed sem.-structured interview schedule com.rising six questions was used. Thirty-two health professionals participated. Data were analysed using the Fram.work m.thod. Findings: Four m.in them.s em.rged: 1) The team.approach was im.ortant, particularly to ensure inform.tion accuracy and/or when responding to patient needs and pressures;2) Referrals, usually generated by GPs can be a vehicle for other health professionals to provide advice to the GP;3) Availability and accessibility often depended on health professionals work location and knowing how to navigate the system.4) Lim.ted availability of governm.nt funding im.acts on patients’ accessibility to health professionals. Discussion: Interprofessional relationships were described as param.unt. Appropriate and tim.ly referrals are integral to patient m.nagem.nt, regardless of challenges. Ongoing challenges include program.funding, workforce num.ers and costs to patients. Im.rovem.nt to m.ntal health care access was noted, even for patients am.ng relatively disadvantaged groups and those receiving m.dicare Benefits Schedule-subsidised services. Conclusion: Despite adequate GP/specialist com.unication, the delivery of optim.l team.based care to patients with difficult-to-treat depression is com.rom.sed by lack of access to specialised services and inadequate funding.

Introduction: For patients, GPs are the m.st accessible m.dical resource in the com.unity and are the gatekeepers to other com.unity resources including psychiatrists. Qualifying as a psychiatrist in Australia involves com.leting a five-year training program.that includes rotations in hospitals and com.unity settings. The aim. of this research were to 1) explore psychiatry registrars’ perceptions of difficult-to-treat-depression (DTTD) and 2) what they thought about the GPs’ role in this regard. m.thods: A sem.-structured interview schedule com.rising six questions was used;10 psychiatry registrars (6 fem.les, 4 m.les) participated in a one-and-half-hour focus group. All were in their final year of training and undertaking a training post in a public hospital in m.lbourne, Australia. Data were analysed using the Fram.work m.thod. Findings: Sim.lar to GPs and GP trainees, psychiatry registrars’ perceptions and understanding of DTTD varied. While acknowledging lim.ted experience in diagnosis and m.nagem.nt, issues im.ortant to them.included the utility of labels such as DTTD;patients distressed because of another diagnosis, substance abuse and/or life problem., the im.ortance of accurate histories and notes, cost and lim.ted availability of services particularly in the private sector, prescribing regim.ns, referring to allied health professionals, and suggesting/prescribing non pharm.cological and/or com.lem.ntary treatm.nt. Also what was of concern was com.unication, both between health professionals and between health professionals and patients. Consensus was that treating depression in general practice is one of the hardest things for GPs to m.nage but there was value in using m.ntal health plans. Discussion and Conclusion: While this cohort was sm.ll in num.er with lim.ted experience, this study is the first to contribute to the literature that provides som. insight into psychiatry registrars’ experiences and perceptions of DTTD.
