studies on Toxicity,Anti-stress and Hepato-protective Properties of Kombucha Tea

Objective\ The objective of the study was to evaluate toxicity, anti_stress activity and hepato_protective properties of Kombucha tea. Method\ Kombucha tea was fed orally for 15 days using three different doses i.e. normal dose, five and ten times the dose. Rats were then sacrificed and various biochemical, and histological parameters were estimated. Anti_stress activity was evaluated either by 1) by exposing animals to cold and hypoxia and estimating the levels of malondialdehyde and reduced glutathione in plasma/ blood or 2) by subjecting the animals to restraint stress and recording faecal output. Hepato_toxicity was induced by challenging the animals to an acute dose of paracetamol (1 gm/kg) orally and determining the plasma levels of sGPT, sGOT and MDA. Results\ The effect of oral administration of different doses of K_tea to albino rats was examined and the results indicate that K_tea has no significant toxicity as revealed by various biochemical and histopathological parameters. K_tea has been found to prevent lipid peroxidation and fall in reduced glutathione level when rats were exposed to cold and hypoxia in simulated chamber. Further, K_tea has also been found to decrease the Wrap_restraint faecal pellet output in rats. K_tea has also been found to decrease paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity significantly. Conclusion\ The study shows that K_tea has anti_stress and hepato_protective activities.

Floral extract of Tecoma stans:A potent inhibitor of gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in vivo

Objective:To highlight the nephroprotective activity of ethyl acetate extract of dried flowers of Tecomu stans for its protective effects on genlamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in albino rats. Methods:For studying acute toxicity study,single oral dose of 5（KM） mg ethyl acetate floral extract/kg hodv weight was administered to albino rats（five females,five males）.Nephrotoxicity was induced in albino rats by intraperitoneal administration of gentamicin 80 mg/kg/day for eight *** of concurrent administration of ethyl acetate floral extract of Tecoma stans at a dose of 100.200 and 300 mg/kg/day given by oral mute was determined using serum creatinine,serum uric acid,blood urea nitrogen and serum urea as indicators of kidney *** study groups contained six rats in each *** nephrotoxicity of gentamicin is known to involve induction of oxidative stress,in vitro antioxidant aclivity and free radical-scavenging activity of this extract was also ***:For acute toxicity testing both female and male rats administered with the extract at a dose of 5 000 mg/*** results showed no toxicity in terms of general behavior change,mortality,or change in gross appearance of internal organs(LDsub>50sub>>5 000 mg/kg). It was observed that the ethyl acetate floral extract of Tecoma stans significantly protected rat kidneys from gentamicin-induced histopathological ***-induced glomerular congestion,peritubular and blood vessel congestion,epithelial desquamation,accumulation ol inflamnialoiy cells and necrosis of the kidney cells were found to be reduced in the groups receiving the ethyl acetate floral extract of Tecoma starts along with gentamicin in a dose dependent *** floral extract also reduced the gentamicin-induced increase in serum creatinine,serum uric acid,blood urea nitrogen and serum urea levels（P>0.01）.Conclusions: The present study indicates a verv important role of reactive oxygen species（BOs） and the relation to re

Mechanical and wear behaviour of Mg-siC-Gr hybrid composites

The present research deals with development and characterisation of magnesium–siC–Gr hybrid composites through powder metallurgy *** analysis of the magnesium and reinforcement powder particles has been carried out using particle size analyser(PsA)and X-ray diffraction(XRD),and then the mixed powders were analysed through scanning electron microscope(sEM).The developed composite exhibit increased hardness when compared to base material,which could be attributed to the presence of hard ***,a slight decrease in hardness is observed for the hybrid composite when compared to Mg–siC composite due to the presence of soft Gr *** tribological properties of the developed composite materials were investigated using pin-on-disc wear test apparatus under dry sliding *** wear resistance of the developed composites improved significantly than that of the magnesium matrix due to the upright effect offered by both of the *** sEM analysis was carried out on the worn out surfaces for better understanding of wear mechanisms.5%Gr reinforced Mg-10siC composites confer better wear resistance among the developed composites.
