Stereotactic body radiation therapy for primary liver tumors with adverse factors

Aim:To test the efficacy and safety of liver stereotactic body radiation therapy(SBRT)in patients who harbor adverse ***:We retrospectively evaluated the outcomes of liver SBRT in a single cancer *** invented criteria consisting of two physical factors and two tumor factors to measure the treatment difficulty in each *** clinical outcomes and toxicity were evaluated by stratification of the harboring ***:A total of 24(23 hepatocellular carcinoma and 1 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma)patients were eligible for this study,with a median follow-up duration of 18 *** all eligible patients,21 patients(88%)had one or more *** local control,progression-free survival,and overall survival rates for all patients at 2 years were 89%,42%,and 76%*** the patients with physical and tumor adverse factors,local control/progression-free survival/overall survival rates at 2 years were 100%/42%/69%and 80%/23%/78%,*** subgroup of 11 patients with 2 or more factors showed comparable local control rate at 2 years to the subgroup of 13 patients with 0 to 1 factors(100%vs.86%,P=0.59).One patient(4.2%)experienced a decline in the Child-Pugh score by 2 points at 3 months after the *** 2 to 3 gastrointestinal toxicity was observed in three ***:SBRT showed a high local control rate with acceptable toxicity for the group of liver cancer patients harboring both physical and tumor adverse factors as long as conducted following patient selection and dose constraints that were used in this study.

A pulsed electric field(PEF) was applied to unpasteurized sake at constant temperatures, at which α-amylase was not inactivated. We adjusted the input energy to be identical for the temperatures by changing the number of PEF application, because the current significantly increased with the temperature, even the amplitude of the applied voltage was identical. As a result, the α-amylase was seemed to be inactivated by PEF application, not due to thermal *** glucoamylase was significantly inactivated by PEF. Moreover, the acid carboxypeptidase was inactivated by PEF at 4 °C but significantly activated at 25 °C. These results show that the sensitivity of enzyme to PEF application differs depending on the types of enzyme and treatment temperature. On the other hand, the colony number of bacteria was remarkably decreased, but the amount of the volatile flavor compounds was not decreased by PEF application.

AIM： Complete resection of the bile duct carcinoma is sometimes difficult by subepithelial spread in the duct wall or direct invasion of adjacent blood vessels. Nonresected extrahepatic bile duct carcinoma has a dismal prognosis,with a life expectancy of about 6 mo to i year. To improve the treatment results of locally advanced bile duct carcinoma, we have been conducting a clinical trial using regional hyperthermia in combination with chemoradiation ***： Eight patients complaining of obstructive jaundice with advanced extrahepatic bile duct underwent thermo-chemo-radiotherapy （TCRT）. All tumors were located in the upper bile duct and involved hepatic bifurcation, and obstructed the bile duct *** capacitive hyperthermia was administered simultaneously with chemotherapeutic agents once weekly immediately following radiotherapy at 2 *** administered heat to the patient for 40 rain after the tumor temperature had risen to 42℃. The chemotherapeutic agents employed were cis-platinum （CDDP,50 mg/m^2） in combination with 5-fluorouracil （5-FU,800 mg/m^2） or methotrexate （MTX, 30 mg/m^2） in combination with 5-FU （800 mg/m^2）. Number of heat treatments ranged from 2 to 8 sessions. The bile duct at autopsy was histologically examined in three patients treated with ***： In respect to resolution of the bile duct, there were three complete regression （CR）, two partial regression （PR）, and three no change （NC）. Mean survival was 13.2＋10.8 mo （mean＋SD）. Four patients survived for more than 20 too. Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage （PTBD） tube could be removed in placement of self-expandable metallic stent into the patency-restored bile duct after TCRT. No major side effects occurred. A sintering technology for preparing porous materials from sea bottom sediments was developed for use in water purification. The purpose of the present study was to develop methods for converting the sea bottom sediments dredged from Ago Bay into value-added recycled products. The sintered products fabricated at 400℃ were found to be very effective adsorbents for the removal of heavy metals.

Dislocation-mediated plasticity in inorganic semiconductors and oxides has attracted increasing research interest because of the promising mechanical and functional properties tuned by *** this study,we investigated the effects of light illumination on the dislocation-mediated plasticity in hexagonal wurtzite ZnO,a representative third-generation semiconductor material.A(0001)45o off sample was specially designed to preferentially activate the basal slip on(0001)*** types of nanoindentation tests were performed under four different light conditions(550 nm,334 nm,405 nm,and darkness),including low-load(60μN)pop-in tests,high-load(500μN)nanoindentation tests,and nanoindentation creep *** maximum shear stresses at pop-in were found to approximate the theoretical shear strength regardless of the light *** activation volume at pop-ins was calculated to be larger in light than in ***-sectional transmission electron microscope images taken from beneath the indentation imprints showed that all indentation-induced dislocations were located beneath the indentation imprint in a thin-plate shape along one basal slip *** indentation-induced dislocations could spread much deeper in darkness than in light,revealing the suppressive effect of light on dislocation *** analytical model was adopted to estimate the elastoplastic stress field beneath the *** was found that dislocation glide ceased at a higher stress level in light,indicating the increase in the Peierls barrier under light ***,nanoindentation creep tests showed the suppression of both indentation depth and creep rate by *** creep also yielded a larger activation volume in light than in darkness.
