A Comparative Visualization Strategy of Probabilistic Susceptibility Maps for Analyzing Different Types of Slope Failures

This paper presents a comparative visualization strategy of slope failure susceptibility maps for analyzing different types of simultaneous occurrences of slope failures. Through the SEM （structural equation modeling）, slope failure susceptibility maps are produced by using causal factors （i.e., geographical information, satellite remotely sensed data）. As for a conventional pair-wise comparative procedure, the differences between susceptibility maps are delineated on difference maps, that can be, however, applied for evaluating differences only between pairs of susceptibility maps. One of the strong requirements from specialists working on slope stability evaluation is a comparative and visualization strategy of susceptibility maps with respect to ＂different types of simultaneous slope failures＂, for which the discussion is insufficient in the previous research activities for constructing the quantitative models for slope failure hazard mapping. As a measure, a color composite map based on susceptibility maps has been produced. The combination of assigning susceptibility maps to RGB-color planes is determined based on an index of ＂NCCT （normalized correlated color temperature）＂ which represents the relationship between chromaticity and human visual perception. Through the cases examined, the result indicates that the proposed color composite map, as a heuristic visualization strategy, is useful for simultaneously evaluating the hazardous areas affected by ＂different types of slope failures＂.

Energy Consumption and Thermal Performance in Different Residential Building Types in Hot-Summer and Cold-Winter Zone

In China, REC （residential energy consumption） is the second largest energy use category （10%） following the industry. To fulfill the Chinese government＇s commitment that Chinese CO2 emissions would peak in 2030, as a result, improving the energy efficiency and reducing the emissions from the building sector is significantly important. A survey, in the form of a questionnaire, of energy consumption and thermal situation in different residential building types （detached house, multi-story building, high-rise building）, was undertaken in three cities （Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Changzhou） in hot-summer and cold-winter regions, these three cities were selected to represent the most flourishing economic provinces. This region in China was selected for the evaluation of EETP （energy and thermal performance analysis）, because of its special weather conditions, huge energy consumption （as both heating in winter and cooling in summer are necessary）, and other regional characteristics. 183 households were sampled and experiments were separately done in typical examples of three different building types. Systematic evaluation on EETP for three different residential building types, were put forward to assess the energy efficiency and thermal performance of three different building types.

We investigated movement pattern of commercial important fish around Offshore Wind Turbine(OWT)and neighboring habitats in Goto *** tagged 55 individuals of 2 fish species and released around the OWT in 2017.(27 Pagrus major from 1st Feb 2017 to 16th Mar 2017(winter),8 *** and 20 Seriola quinqueradiata from 13th July 2017 to 13th Oct 2017(summer)).Acoustic receivers were deployed at OWT,south artificial reef(AS),trapnet(TN),north FAD(F1)and south FAD(F2)in winter and two more receivers were deployed at north artificial reef(AN)and natural reef(NR)in *** observed 12 *** at OWT for a day after released in winter,majority of fish(13 individuals)were detected at *** summer,7 *** were observed at OWT,1 visited TN within the day,but others *** *** stayed at OWT longer than *** after released and disappeared within 2 *** mostly moved around AS,AN,*** time from K-M curve was 10 days for *** in winter,a day in summer and 3 days for *** species showed low affinity for OWT as recorded low residency index despite the season.

Room-temperature Raman scattering and x-ray difraction measurements together with first principles calculations were employed to invetigate the behavior of disordered Pb(In_(1/2)Nb_(1/2))O_(3)(PIN)under pressure up to *** spectra show broad bands but a peak near the 380cm^(-1) increases its intensity with *** linewidth of the band at 550cm^(-1) also increases with pressure,while two of the Raman peaks merge above *** 16 GPa,we observe additional splitting of the band at 50cm^(-1).The pressure evolution of the diffraction patterns for PIN shows obvious Bragg peaks splitting above 16GPa;consistent with a symmetry lowering *** transition at 0.5 GPa is identified as a pseudo-cubic to orthorhombic(Pbam)structural change whereas the transition at 16GPa is istructure and associated with changes in linear compresibility and octahedral titling,and the transition at 30 GPa is associated to an orthorhombic to monoclinic ***-principles calculations indicate that the Pbam structure is ground state with antiferrodisdortion consistent with experiment.

Suppression of Sebum Production and Accumulation by <i>β</i>-Cryptoxanthin Due to the Inhibition of the Expression of Diacylglycerol Acyltransferase-1 and Perilipin in Hamster Sebocytes

Background: Acne vulgaris is characterized by the enhancement of sebaceous lipogenesis and sebum secretion, and apart from retinoids and some natural products there are few effective antiacne agents that directly suppress sebum production and accumulation in sebaceous glands. Objective: We examined the effects of β-cryptoxanthin (β-CRX), which is a carotenoid pigment most abundant in Citrus unshiu Marcovich (Satsuma mandarin orange) and plays a role as a vitamin A precursor on sebum production and accumulation in hamster sebaceous gland cells (sebocytes). Materials and methods: The regulation of sebum production was examined by the measurement of triacylglycerols (TGs), the major sebum component, and oil red O staining in insulindifferentiated hamster sebocytes. The expression of diacylglycerol acyltransferase-1 (DGAT-1), a rate-limiting enzyme of TG biosynthesis, and perilipin 1 (PLIN1), a lipid storage droplet protein, was analyzed using real-time PCR and Western blotting. Results: Hamster sebocytes constitutively produced TGs during cultivation and the production of TGs was enhanced by insulin treatment. Both constitutive and insulin-enhanced TG productions were dose- and time-dependently inhibited by β-CRX as well as 13-cis retinoic acid. In addition, the gene expression of DGAT-1 was suppressed by β-CRX in the sebocytes. Furthermore, the insulin-en- hanced sebum accumulation as lipid droplets was reduced in the β-CRX-treated cells. Moreover, β-CRX was found to suppress the gene expression and production of PLIN1 in insulin-differentiated hamster sebocytes. Conclusions: These results provide novel evidence that β-CRX is an effective candidate for acne therapy by its ability to exert dual inhibitory actions against DGAT-1-dependent TG production and PLIN1-mediated lipiddroplet formation in hamster sebocytes.

Outcomes of Open Surgery for Popliteal Artery Aneurysms:An 18-Year Experience in a Single Institution in Japan

Objective: To elucidate the outcomes of open surgery for popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) in a single Japanese institution. Materials and Methods: Between 1999 and 2016, 35 patients (44 PAAs) underwent open surgery in our department. The first-line surgical strategy involved the medial approach, with excision of the aneurysm sac and autologous vein bypass grafting. Associations between the outcomes and 1) the surgical management of the aneurysmal sac (aneurysmectomy vs. ligation with bypass) and 2) the preoperative clinical symptoms were evaluated. Results: There were no aneurysm-related deaths during the follow-up period (mean, 4 years;range, 1 - 17.6 years). The 5-year primary, primary-assisted, and secondary patency rates were 67.9%, 72.7%, and 94.5%, respectively. Re-intervention was required for 19 PAAs (14 patients), including two PAAs in patients with suspected Behçet’s disease. Patency rates did not differ between the aneurysmectomy and ligation groups. Remnant sac enlargement occurred in 3 cases. Among asymptomatic patients, clinical symptoms did not deteriorate;however, the ankle brachial pressure index decreased ≥0.15 in patients with artery-graft mismatching. Conclusion: Patency rates were good, and our modified ligation with bypass procedure, which involves excising the sac as much as possible, exhibited less risk in terms of remnant sac enlargement compared to that in previous studies.

An Analysis of the Women Commuters’ Satisfaction in the Public Bus Service in Bangladesh: A Survey on Local Buses in Major Cities

Bangladesh is one of the most populated developing countries where public bus service plays a vital role as a public transport mode since it is easily available and cost-effective. In the social, commercial, educational, and administrative spheres, women’s participation in the labor force in economic enterprises is steadily expanding in the country. Very little research considers only women commuters to analyze the service quality of public buses and they selected only Dhaka city as a study area. However, a large number of trips were generated by women commuters in the industrial and commercial zones such as Gazipur, Narayanganj, and Dhaka. This paper ascertains the public bus service attributes that affect women commuters’ satisfaction as well as finds out the major problems of women commuters while traveling on public buses and the possible solutions to them. This survey included 766 women commuters from Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur who were interviewed face to face. Structural Equation Model (SEM) was used as the instrument for identifying the service quality (SQ) attributes that influenced the women commuters’ satisfaction. A series of models were developed based on the trial-and-error method and the model M3 is selected as the best fit according to SEM fit indices values. The study’s main goal was to compile a list of service quality attributes that influence women commuters’ satisfaction. Major issues with the current public bus service in terms of safety and security, as well as remedies, were identified through discussions with experienced female commuters. These findings reveal that women commuters’ satisfaction is primarily influenced by safety and security, as well as the degree of comfort provided by bus service because they frequently encounter major safety and security issues on public buses and want an immediate remedy. This paper offers some potential strategies for addressing the issues, which may prompt policymakers to pay more attent

Gap Analysis between Women Passengers’ Perception and Expectations about Bus Service: A Case Study on Bangladesh

Since public bus service is frequently available and reasonably priced in major cities of Bangladesh including Dhaka, the capital city, a significant number of economically active women regularly commute to work utilizing public buses. Since female commuters experience unique challenges compared to their male counterparts, a gap analysis on the perception of men and women, as well as the difference between the female commuters’ perceptions and expectations, could help to pinpoint the issues. The aim of this paper is to determine the gap between female commuters’ perceptions and expectations of bus service quality in Bangladesh, as well as the current perception of both male and female passengers. In this paper, the data obtained is studied to determine the service quality needs which should be improved by analyzing the perception and expectation gaps for female passengers. SERVQUAL models were used to examine the disparities between perceptions and aspirations in Bangladesh’s major cities. Tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy are the five dimensions of SERVQUAL. The data for this study was collected from 1500 commuters in Bangladesh’s largest cities, including Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narayanganj. Primary data was gathered using a purpose-built questionnaire survey. The Gap values are negative in all dimensions, according to the findings of the study. In the data analysis, a negative gap value indicates that the expectation exceeds the perception. According to the gap analysis, the quality of bus service for passengers is insufficient. Bus service quality is seen and expected to be quite varied. It is vital to improve bus service to meet the needs of women. The findings could be valuable in planning future transportation policies that take female commuters’ needs into account.
