Investigation of Noise-Resolution Tradeoff for Digital Radiographic Imaging: A Simulation Study

In digital radiographic systems, a tradeoff exists between image resolution (or blur) and noise characteristics. An imaging system may only be superior in one image quality characteristic while being inferior to another in the other characteristic. In this work, a computer simulation model is presented that is to use mutual-information (MI) metric to examine tradeoff behavior between resolution and noise. MI is used to express the amount of information that an output image contains about an input object. The basic idea is that when the amount of the uncertainty associated with an object before and after imaging is reduced, the difference of the uncertainty is equal to the value of MI. The more the MI value provides, the better the image quality is. The simulation model calculated MI as a function of signal-to-noise ratio and that of resolution for two image contrast levels. Our simulation results demonstrated that MI associated with overall image quality is much more sensitive to noise compared to blur, although tradeoff relationship between noise and blur exists. However, we found that overall image quality is primarily determined by image blur at very low noise levels.

Hanoi’s rapid urbanization has led to a surge in private vehicle ownership, particularly motorcycles, amidst inadequate public transportation infrastructure. Despite government efforts, many still prefer motorized transport, citing mobility and safety concerns, exacerbated by insufficient pedestrian infrastructure. This study examines the motivations behind this reliance on motorized vehicles, particularly motorcycles, in Hanoi. Findings reveal safety and convenience as primary factors driving motorized transport use, especially for accessing bus stations. Economic incentives could promote non-motorized travel and public transport adoption. Policy implications highlight the importance of addressing economic factors and improving access infrastructure to manage motorized vehicle reliance and foster sustainable urban mobility in Hanoi.

日本已成功建立了全面的社会保障体系,实现了全民医疗和全民年金等目标。该制度的演变跨越了漫长的历史,适应了每个时代的挑战。第二次世界大战结束后,日本采取政策措施为生活贫困者、儿童和残疾人建立了相应的社会救助和社会福利制度。从20世纪50年代末到70年代初,日本完善了全民医疗和全民年金等社会保障制度。自20世纪90年代起,日本开始应对出生率下降和人口老龄化问题,并对社会保障制度进行改革,以确保其可持续性。至此,日本建成了包括医疗、年金、长期护理、育儿支持和公共援助在内的全面社会保障体系以保障民生。然而,在未来老龄化社会的背景下,出生率下降、人口减少以及地区差异的存在,都给政策带来了挑战,包括财政的可持续性、基于社区的医疗和社会服务供给的发展以及应对相对贫困等政策。当前人口减少不仅在日本,在中国和韩国也已成为普遍现象。对中日韩的研究人员来说,探讨人口减少背景下的社会保障等政策选择具有重要意义。

The recent success in the synthesis and total structure determination of atomically precise gold nanoparticles has provided exciting opportunities for fundamental studies as well as the development of new applications. These unique nanoparticles are of molecular purity and possess well defined formulas （i.e., specific numbers of metal atoms and ligands）, resembling organic compounds. Crystallization of such molecularly pure nanoparticles into macroscopic single crystals allows for the determination of total structures of nanoparticles （i.e., the arrangement of metal core atoms and surface ligands） by X-ray crystallography. In this perspective article, we summarize recent efforts in doping and alloying gold nanoparticles with other metals, including Pd, Pt, Ag and Cu. With atomically precise gold nanoparticles, a specific number of foreign atoms （e.g., Pd, Pt） can be incorporated into the gold core, whereas a range of Ag and Cu substitutions is observed but, interestingly, the total number of metal atoms in the homogold nanoparticle is preserved. The heteroatom substitution of gold nanoparticles allows one to probe the optical, structural, and electronic properties truly at the single-atom level, and thus provides a wealth of information for understanding the intriguing properties of this new class of nanomaterials.

A super absorbent material was prepared with the super absorbent resin （ SAR ） and inorganic gel. The SAR of the carboxymethyl cellulose grafting acrylic acid （ CMC-AA ） was copolymer synthesized using the method of inverse-phase suspension polymerization. The influences of the monomer concentration, neutralization degree, the initiator, dispersion agent, cross-linking agent, reaction and drying temperature on the grafting copolymer properties were examined. Meanwhlie, its properties was investigated and the model for absorption mechanism of this absorbent composite was proposed.
