Th. search.for new biomarkers predictive of type 2 diabetes currentl. constitutes a research.avenue in Biocl.nical. Total.h.mocysteine remains a preferred target due to its invol.ement in th. occurrence of degenerative compl.cations in type 2 diabetics. Th. aim of th.s work was to study h.perh.mocysteinemia and oth.r bioch.mical.markers associated with.T2D in th. Congol.se popul.tion. Th.s was an anal.tical.case-control.study carried out between October 2022 and October 2023. Th. study popul.tion consisted of 150 subjects incl.ding 100 T2D patients and 50 control.subjects. Th. main cl.nical.data were col.ected on a pre-establ.sh.d form. h.mocysteine determination was carried out by th. sandwich.El.SA meth.d. Th. oth.r bioch.mical.markers were measured by col.rimetric enzymatic meth.ds. h.perh.mocysteinemia was present in 27.3% (41/150) of th. entire study popul.tion. Type 2 diabetics h.d a frequency of h.perh.mocysteinemia of 36% (36/100) and control.10% (5/50) (p = 0.001). Th. mean h.perh.mocysteinemia concentration was 31.9 μmol.l.with.extremes ranging from 18 to 103 μmol.l. Means of biol.gical.markers between diabetics and control. sh.wed a statistical.y significant difference (p = 0.01). Th. risk factors associated with.th.s h.cy were: sex (OR = 3.5), age (OR = 9.4), sedentary l.festyl. (OR = 3.4) and gl.cosyl.ted h.mogl.bin (OR = 12) with.a p-val.e l.. Our resul.s suggest th.t h.perh.mocysteinemia can be considered as a predictive biomarker in th. biocl.nic of Congol.se type 2 diabetic patients.

Th. sh.ny cowbird Mol.th.us bonariensis parasitizes many species with.different l.fe-h.story traits and h.s a detrimental.effect on th. survival.of th. progeny of th. *** response,h.sts h.ve devel.ped numerous antiparasitic ***,we examined th. effects of brood parasitism by sh.ny cowbird on th. cl.tch.and brood sizes(83 nests)in a smal. h.st,th. bl.ck-backed water tyrant Fl.vicol. *** al.o studied wh.th.r th. death.of parasite nestl.ngs was rel.ted to th. care of th. foster parents and wh.th.r th. h.st h.d any antiparasitic defense against th. sh.ny *** resul.s indicate th.t brood parasitism significantl. decreased th. h.st h.tch.ng and fl.dging *** majority of nest fail.res(57%)were caused by brood *** cowbird parasitism occurred in 52%of nests and th. intensity of parasitism was 1.23±0.53 eggs per parasitized *** th. total.h.st eggs,54%were *** th. incubation stage,20 nests(47%)were abandoned because of egg punctures by sh.ny cowbirds *** two parasitic fl.dgl.ngs were recorded,wh.l. th. remaining nestl.ngs eith.r died from starvation(n=12)or predation(n=3).Foster parents abandoned parasitic nestl.ngs between 5 and 10 days *** findings demonstrate th.t th. sh.ny cowbird h.s very l.w rates of fl.dging success wh.n parasitizing bl.ck-backed water ***,parasitism h.d a h.gh.reproductive cost in th. bl.ck-backed water tyrant because a very l.w proportion(7%)of th. parasitized nests(n=43)were successful.
