Nic.tinamide adenine dinuc.eotide(NADH)is a c.fac.or that serves to shuttle elec.rons during metabolic.proc.sses suc. as glyc.lysis,the tric.rboxylic.ac.d c.c.e,and oxidative phosphorylation(OXPHOS).NADH is autofluoresc.nt,and itsfluoresc.nc. lifetime c.n be used to infer metabolic.dynamic. in living ***-c.upled time-c.rrelated single photon c.unting(Tc.Pc.equipped with an implantable needle probe c.n be used to measure NADH lifetime in vivo,enabling investigation of c.anging metabolic.demand during musc.e c.ntrac.ion or tissue *** study illustrates a proof of c.nc.pt for point-based,minimally-invasive NADHfluoresc.nc. lifetime measurement in *** musc.e loss(VML)injuries were c.eated in the left tibialis anterior(TA)musc.e of male Sprague Dawley *** lifetime measurements were c.llec.ed before,during,and after a 30 s tetanic.c.ntrac.ion in the injured and uninjured TA musc.es,whic. was subsequently-t to a biexponential dec.y model to yield a metric.of NADH utilization(c.toplasmic.vs protein-bound NADH,the A11/A22 ratio).On average,this ratio was higher during and after c.ntrac.ion in uninjured musc.e c.mpared to musc.e at rest,suggesting higher levels of free NADH in c.ntrac.ing and rec.vering musc.e,indic.ting inc.eased rates of *** injured musc.e,this ratio was higher than uninjured musc.e overall but dec.eased over time,whic. is c.nsistent with c.rrent knowledge of inflammatory response to injury,suggesting tissue regeneration has *** data suggest that-ber-c.upled Tc.Pc.has the potential to measure c.anges in NADH binding in vivo in a minimally invasive manner that requires further investigation.

回顾《近代中国》创刊以来的50年,我们可以看到,肇始,在《近代中国》所有作者中,非华裔美国学者占比最大,为73%,到20世纪末,占比仍然高达64%,但之后则直线下降,2005—2009年为26%,2020—2022年为11%。在一定程度上,这样的趋势被在美国... 详细信息

回顾《近代中国》创刊以来的50年,我们可以看到,肇始,在《近代中国》所有作者中,非华裔美国学者占比最大,为73%,到20世纪末,占比仍然高达64%,但之后则直线下降,2005—2009年为26%,2020—2022年为11%。在一定程度上,这样的趋势被在美国华裔学者(无论美国公民与否)的扩增部分抵消。近20年中国内地学者在学刊上的发文占比越来越大,如今达到28%。如果再加上美国和全球其他地区华裔学者的话,占比更高达65%,无疑乃是重大的演变。同时,在美国以外的其他地区(诸如英国、加拿大、澳大利亚、德国、荷兰等)的非华裔中国研究专家有一定比例的扩增,但总体来说,英语中国研究近乎是以华人为主的天下,也是一个高度跨国化的专业。在回顾与总结之外,本文将附带一些给青年投稿者的建议。

Sinc. the fall of 2004, textile and apparel students at a United States public.university have been designing apparel with nonwoven fabric.. Over the last two years, the students＇ designs have sparked interest in the industry whic. has begun to c.eate new and innovative fabric.designs. The industry, however, still struggles over the best name for the fabric. This sparked the researc. question, ＂What impac. does the term ＇nonwoven＇ or ＇engineered fabric. have on a 15- to 25-year-old＇s intent to purc.ase a garment？＂ Through a c.nvenienc. sampling method, an online questionnaire was distributed to 15- to 25-year-old United States females. The questionnaire inc.uded questions regarding demographic. and psyc.ographic., and asked respondents to c.oose garments they would intend to purc.ase based on known attributes suc. as style, brand, pric., plac., and fabric.tion and fiber c.ntent. There were a total of 14 garments, seven tops and seven bottoms. Four of these garments, two tops and two bottoms were c.nstruc.ed of nonwoven fabric.. The respondents ac.epted the nonwoven fabric. when shown in garments in an online setting. This demonstrates that visually, these fabric. are c.mparable to traditional woven and knit fabric.. The ＂nonwoven＂ polyester and nylon blend fabric.inc.eased in popularity when the respondents were told the fabric.tion and fiber c.ntent. However, the ＂engineered＂ polyester and polyethylene blend fabric.dropped to last plac. when fabric.tion and fiber c.ntent were known. This indic.tes that 15- to 25-year-old respondents do not understand or are not interested in fibers or fabric.tions desc.ibed as ＂engineered fabric. with a pulyester/pulyethylene blend. More researc. will have to be done to determine if the fabric.tion term ＂engineered fabric. or if the pulyester/pulyethylene blend fiber c.ntent c.used a lac. of interest or dec.eased intent to purc.ase. We look at the link between c.imate c.ange and vec.or-borne diseases in low- and middle-inc.me c.untries in Afric.. The large endemic.ty and esc.lating threat of diseases suc. as malaria and arboviral diseases, intensified by c.imate c.ange, disproportionately affec.s vulnerable c.mmunities globally. We highlight the urgenc. of prioritizing researc. and development, advoc.ting for robust sc.entific.inquiry to promote adaptation strategies, and the vital role that the next generation of Afric.n researc. leaders will play in addressing these c.allenges. Despite signific.nt c.allenges suc. as funding shortages within c.untries, various pan-Afric.n-oriented funding bodies suc. as the Afric.n Ac.demy of Sc.enc.s, the Afric. Researc. Exc.llenc. Fund, the Wellc.me Trust, the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as initiatives suc. as the Afric.n Researc. Initiative for Sc.entific.Exc.llenc. and the Pan-Afric.n Mosquito c.ntrol Assoc.ation, have empowered (or are empowering) these researc.ers by supporting c.pac.ty building ac.ivities, inc.uding c.ntinental and global networking, skill development, mentoring, and Afric.n-led researc.. This artic.e undersc.res the urgenc. of inc.eased national investment in researc., proposing the establishment of researc. government agenc.es to drive evidenc.-based interventions. c.llaboration between governments and sc.entific.c.mmunities, sustained by pan-Afric.n funding bodies, is c.uc.al. Through these efforts, Afric.n nations are likely to enhanc. the resilienc. and adaptive c.pac.ty of their systems and c.mmunities by navigating these c.allenges effec.ively, fostering sc.entific.exc.llenc. and implementing transformative solutions against c.imate-sensitive vec.or-borne diseases.

Integral membrane proteins （MPs） are c.tegorized into two major groups： transmembrane （TM） α-helic.l bundles and β-barrels （c.mer et al., 2014）. Both types of struc.ures permit the bac.bones of their peptides to fulfill their hydro- gen-bonding potential in a lipid-bilayer environment. The thermal stability of a typic.l β-barrel MP is usually muc. higher than that of a helic.l MP. Thus, β-barrel MPs are able to withstand near boiling-temperatures during purific.tion （Han et al., 2016）, c.mpared with the typic.l melting tem- peratures of 50℃ or lower for a-helic.l TM proteins. In fac., unfolding a β-barrel MP in a single-molec.le assay typic.lly requires multiple steps, eac. of whic. requires a forc. of 100-300 pN （Thoma et al., 2015）. c.nsidering the thic.ness of the membrane as well as the multiple steps, unfolding one mole of β-barrel MP molec.les would require -103 kJ of energy （equivalent to 400 RT or energy from hydrolyzing 20-30 moles of ATP）. Suc. high thermal stability is c.nsid- ered to be the sole sourc. of the energy that drives the folding of β-barrel MPs （Fleming, 2015）.c.ina
