Purpose:The study aimed to examine the reporting completeness of randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of non-pharmacological interventions following concussion.methods:We searched mEDLINE,Embase,PsycInfo,CINAHL,and Web of Science up to may 2022.Two reviewers independently screened studies and assessed reporting completeness using the Template for Intervention Description and Replication(TIDieR),Consensus on Exercise Reporting Template(CERT),and international Consensus on Therapeutic Exercise aNd Training(i-CONTENT)checklists.Additional information was sought my study authors where reporting was incomplete.Risk of bias(ROB)was assessed with the Cochrane ROB-2 Tool.RCTs examining non-pharmacological interventions following concussion.Results:We included 89 RCTs(n=53 high ROB)examining 11 different interventions for concussion:sub-symptom threshold aerobic exercise,cervicovestibular therapy,physical/cognitive rest,vision therapy,education,psychotherapy,hyperbaric oxygen therapy,transcranial magnetic stimulation,blue light therapy,osteopathic manipulation,and head/neck cooling.median scores were:TIDieR 9/12(75%;interquartile range(IQR)=5;range:5-12),CERT 17/19(89%;IQR=2;range:10-19),and i-CONTENT 6/7(86%;IQR=1;range:5-7).Percentage of studies completely reporting all items was TIDieR 35%(31/89),CERT 24%(5/21),and i-CONTENT 10%(2/21).Studies were more completely reported after publication of TIDieR(t_(87)=2.08;p=0.04)and CERT(t_(19)=2.72;p=0.01).Reporting completeness was not strongly associated with journal impact factor(TIDieR:rs=0.27;p=0.01;CERT:r_(s)=-0.44;p=0.06;i-CONTENT:r_(s)=-0.17;p=0.48)or ROB(TIDieR:rs=0.11;p=0.31;CERT:rs=0.04;p=0.86;i-CONTENT:rs=0.12;p=0.60).Conclusion:RCTs of non-pharmacological interventions following concussion demonstrate moderate to good reporting completeness,but are often missing key components,particularly modifications,motivational strategies,and qualified supervisor.Reporting completeness improved after TIDieR and CERT publication,but publication in highly cited journals and low ROB

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NADH)is a cofactor that serves to shuttle electrons during metabolic processes such as glycolysis,the tricarboxylic acid cycle,and oxidative phosphorylation(OXPHOS).NADH is autofluorescent,and itsfluorescence lifetime can be used to infer metabolic dynamics in living cells.Fiber-coupled time-correlated single photon counting(TCSPC)equipped with an implantable needle probe can be used to measure NADH lifetime in vivo,enabling investigation of changing metabolic demand during muscle contraction or tissue regeneration.This study illustrates a proof of concept for point-based,minimally-invasive NADHfluorescence lifetime measurement in vivo.Volumetric muscle loss(VmL)injuries were created in the left tibialis anterior(TA)muscle of male Sprague Dawley rats.NADH lifetime measurements were collected before,during,and after a 30 s tetanic contraction in the injured and uninjured TA muscles,which was subsequently-t to a biexponential decay model to yield a metric of NADH utilization(cytoplasmic vs protein-bound NADH,the A11/A22 ratio).On average,this ratio was higher during and after contraction in uninjured muscle compared to muscle at rest,suggesting higher levels of free NADH in contracting and recovering muscle,indicating increased rates of glycolysis.In injured muscle,this ratio was higher than uninjured muscle overall but decreased over time,which is consistent with current knowledge of inflammatory response to injury,suggesting tissue regeneration has occurred.These data suggest that-ber-coupled TCSPC has the potential to measure changes in NADH binding in vivo in a minimally invasive manner that requires further investigation.

In recent years, social research surrounding the consequences of infertility has increasingly focused on the male perspective;however, a gap exists in the understanding of men’s experiences of male infertility treatment. This review aims to synthesize theexisting evidence concerning the psychological, social, and sexual burden of male infertility treatment on men, as well as patientneeds during clinical care. A systematic search identified 12 studies that are diverse in design, setting, and methods. Psychologicalevaluations have found that urological surgery may have a lasting impact on infertility-specific stress, and treatment failure canlead to feelings of depression, grief, and inadequacy. men tended to have an avoidant coping mechanism throughout fertilitytreatment, and their self-esteem, relationship quality, and sexual functions can be tied to outcomes of treatment. Partner bonds canbe strengthened by mutual support and enhanced communication;couple separation, however, has been noted as a predominantreason for discontinuing male infertility treatment and may be associated with difficult circumstances surrounding severe maleinfertility. Surgical treatments can affect the sexual functioning of infertile men;however, the impact of testicular sperm extractionoutcomes appears to be psychologically driven whereas the improvements after microsurgical varicocelectomy are only evident inhypogonadal men. Clinically, there is a need for better inclusion, communication, education, and resource provision, to addressreported issues of marginalization and uncertainty in men. Routine psychosocial screening in cases of severe male infertility andfollow-up in cases of surgical treatment failure are likely beneficial.

Background:Fluid resuscitation is a key treatment for sepsis,but limited data exists in patients with existing heartfailure(HF)and septic shock.The objective of this study was to determine the impact of initial fluid resuscitationvolume on outcomes in HF patients with reduced or mildly reduced left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)withseptic shock.methods:This multicenter,retrospective,cohort study included patients with known HF(LVEF≤50%)presentingwith septic shock.Patients were divided into two groups based on the volume of fluid resuscitation in the first 6 h;mL/kg or≥30 mL/kg.The primary outcome was a composite of in-hospital mortality or renal replacementtherapy(RRT)within 7 days.Secondary outcomes included acute kidney injury(AKI),initiation of mechanicalventilation,and length of stay(LOS).All related data were collected and compared between the two groups.A generalized logistic mixed model was used to assess the association between fluid groups and the primaryoutcome while adjusting for baseline LVEF,Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation(APACHE)II score,inappropriate empiric antibiotics,and receipt of corticosteroids.Results:One hundred and fifty-four patients were included(93 patients inmL/kg group and 61 patientsin≥30 mL/kg group).The median weight-based volume in the first 6 h was 17.7(12.2–23.0)mL/kg in themL/kg group vs.40.5(34.2–53.1)mL/kg in the≥30 mL/kg group(Pmposite of in-hospital mortality or RRT between themL/kg group compared to the≥30 mL/kggroup(55.9%vs.45.9%,P=0.25),respectively.ThemL/kg group had a higher incidence of AKI,mechanicalventilation,and longer hospital LOS.Conclusions:In patients with known reduced or mildly reduced LVEF presenting with septic shock,no differencewas detected for in-hospital mortality or RRT in patients who received≥30 mL/kg of resuscitation fluid comparedto less fluid,although this study was underpowered to detect a difference.Importantly,≥30 mL/kg fluid did notresult in a highe

Glucocorticoid and glucocorticoid receptor（GC/GR） interactions alter numerous aspects of neuronal function. These consequences（e.g., anti-inflammatory vs. pro-inflammatory） can vary depending on the duration of GC exposure or central nervous system（CNS） injury model. In this review we discuss how GC/GR interactions impact neuronal recovery after a central or peripheral nerve injury and discuss how GC exposure duration can produce divergent CNS neuronal growth responses. Finally we consider how new findings on gender specific immune cell responses after a nerve injury could intersect with GC/GR interactions to impact pain processing.

Neonatal hypoxia-ischemia(HI)results in losses of serotonergic neurons in specific dorsal raphe nuclei.However,not all serotonergic raphe neurons are lost and it is therefore important to assess the function of remaining neurons in order to understand their potential to contribute to neurological disorders in the HI-affected neonate.The main objective of this study was to determine how serotonergic neurons,remaining in the dorsal raphe nuclei after neonatal HI,respond to an external stimulus(restraint stress).On postnatal day 3(P3),male rat pups were randomly allocated to one of the following groups:(i)control+no restraint(n=5),(ii)control+restraint(n=6),(iii)P3 HI+no restraint(n=5)or(iv)P3 HI+restraint(n=7).In the two HI groups,rat pups underwent surgery to ligate the common carotid artery and were then exposed to 6%O2 for 30 minutes.Six weeks after P3 HI,on P45,rats were subjected to restraint stress for 30 minutes.Using dual immunolabeling for Fos protein,a marker for neuronal activity,and serotonin(5-hydroxytrypamine;5-HT),numbers of Fos-positive 5-HT neurons were determined in five dorsal raphe nuclei.We found that restraint stress alone increased numbers of Fos-positive 5-HT neurons in all five dorsal raphe nuclei compared to control animals.However,following P3 HI,the number of stress-induced Fos-positive 5-HT neurons was decreased significantly in the dorsal raphe ventrolateral,interfascicular and ventral nuclei compared with control animals exposed to restraint stress.In contrast,numbers of stress-induced Fos-positive 5-HT neurons in the dorsal raphe dorsal and caudal nuclei were not affected by P3 HI.These data indicate that not only are dorsal raphe serotonergic neurons lost after neonatal HI,but also remaining dorsal raphe serotonergic neurons have reduced differential functional viability in response to an external stimulus.Procedures were approved by the University of Queensland Animal Ethics Committee(UQCCR958/08/NHmRC)on February 27,2009.

Artemin is a neuronal survival and differentiation factor in the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor family.Its receptor GFRα3 is expressed by a subpopulation of nociceptor type sensory neurons in the dorsal root and trigeminal ganglia(DRG and TG).These neurons co-express the heat,capsaicin and proton-sensitive channel TRPV1 and the cold and chemical-sensitive channel TRPA1.To further investigate the effects of artemin on sensory neurons,we isolated transgenic mice(ARTN-OE mice) that overexpress artemin in keratinocytes of the skin and tongue.Enhanced levels of artemin led to a 20% increase in the total number of DRG neurons and increases in the level of mRNA encoding TRPV1 and TRPA1.Calcium imaging showed that isolated sensory neurons from ARTN-OE mice were hypersensitive to the TRPV1 agonist capsaicin and the TRPA1 agonist mustard oil.Behavioral testing of ARTN-OE mice also showed an increased sensitivity to heat,cold,capsaicin and mustard oil stimuli applied either to the skin or in the drinking water.Sensory neurons from wildtype mice also exhibited potentiated capsaicin responses following artemin addition to the media.In addition,injection of artemin into hindpaw skin produced transient thermal hyperalgesia.These findings indicate that artemin can modulate sensory function and that this regulation may occur through changes in channel gene expression.Because artemin mRNA expression is up-regulated in inflamed tissue and following nerve injury,it may have a significant role in cellular changes that underlie pain associated with pathological conditions.manipulation of artemin expression may therefore offer a new pain treatment strategy.

The largest solvent-extraction plant in the world at the time, the Nchanga Copper Operation, was in Zambia. The first commercial process using solvent extraction for the refining of the platinum-group metals was in South Africa. more recently, the Southern African region has seen the implementation of solvent extraction for other base metals, precious metals, and specialty metals. These include the world firsts of primary production of zinc at Skorpion Zinc in Namibia and the large-scale refining of gold by Harmony Gold in South Africa. Several other flowsheets that use solvent-extraction technology are currently under commissioning, development, or feasibility study for implementation in this part of the world, including those for the recovery of copper, cobalt, nickel, tantalum, and niobium.
