Plants have evolvedmultiple strategies to cope with rapid changes in the *** high light(HL)acclimation,the biosynthesis of photoprotective flavonoids,such as anthocyanins,is ***,the exact nature of the signal and downstreamfactors forHL induction of flavonoid biosynthesis(FB)is still under ***,we show that carbon fixation in chloroplasts,subsequent export of photosynthates by triose phosphate/phosphate translocator(TPT),and rapid increase in cellular sugar content permit the transcriptional and metabolic activation of anthocyanin biosynthesis during HL *** combination with genetic and physiological analysis,targeted and whole-transcriptome gene expression studies suggest that reactive oxygen species and phytohormones play only a minor role in rapid HL induction of the anthocyanin branch of *** addition to transcripts of FB,sugar-responsive genes showed delayed repression or induction in tpt-2 during HL treatment,and a significant overlapwith transcripts regulated by SNF1-related protein kinase 1(SnRK1)was observed,including a central transcription factor of *** of mutants with increased and repressed SnRK1 activity suggests that sugar-induced inactivation of SnRK1 is required for HL-mediated activation of anthocyanin *** study emphasizes the central role of chloroplasts as sensors for environmental changes as well as the vital function of sugar signaling in plant acclimation.

Photorespiration is an essential metabolic process in leaves that facilitates recovery of carbon lost by the oxygenase reaction of Rubisco and avoids the accumulation of the toxic product, 2-phosphoglycolate （2PG） of this reaction （Bauwe et al., 2012）. However, there is also evidence to suggest that photorespiration has a more complex role during normal growth than the mere detoxification of 2PG and the recovery of 3-phosphoglycerate （3PGA）（Bauwe et al., 2012）.

Let N be a compact complex submanifold of a compact complex manifold M. We say that Nsplits in M, if the holomorphic tangent bundle sequence splits holomorphically. By a result of Mok, a splittingsubmanifold of a Khler-Einstein manifold with a projective structure is totally geodesic. The classification ofall splitting submanifolds of families of fake elliptic curves given here completes the case of threefolds M with aprojective structure by a previous result of the authors.

Emission properties of nanolasers during the transition to lasing

This review addresses ongoing discussions involving nanolaser experiments,particularly those related to thresholdless lasing or few-emitter devices.A quantum-optical(quantum-mechanical active medium and radiation field)theory is used to examine the emission properties of nanolasers under different experimental *** active medium is treated as inhomogeneously broadened semiconductor quantum dots embedded in a quantum well,where carriers are introduced via current *** are made between a conventional laser and a nanolaser with a spontaneous emission factor of unity,as well as a laser with only a few quantum dots providing the *** is found that the combined exploration of intensity,coherence time,photon autocorrelation function and carrier spectral hole burning can provide a unique and consistent picture of nanolasers in the new regimes of laser operation during the transition from thermal to coherent ***,by reducing the number of quantum dots in the optical cavity,a clear indication of non-classical photon statistics is observed before the single-quantum-dot limit is reached.

Emission from quantum-dot high-β microcavities: transition from spontaneous emission to lasing and the effects of superradiant emitter coupling

Measured and calculated results are presented for the emission properties of a new class of emitters operating in the cavity quantum electrodynamics *** structures are based on high-finesse GaAs/AlAs micropillar cavities,each with an active medium consisting of a layer of InGaAs quantum dots(QDs)and the distinguishing feature of having a substantial fraction of spontaneous emission channeled into one cavity mode(highβ-factor).This paper demonstrates that the usual criterion for lasing with a conventional(lowβ-factor)cavity,that is,a sharp non-linearity in the input–output curve accompanied by noticeable linewidth narrowing,has to be reinforced by the equal-time second-order photon autocorrelation function to confirm *** paper also shows that the equal-time second-order photon autocorrelation function is useful for recognizing superradiance,a manifestation of the correlations possible in high-βmicrocavities operating with *** terms of consolidating the collected data and identifying the physics underlying laser action,both theory and experiment suggest a sole dependence on intracavity photon *** for this assertion comes from all our measured and calculated data on emission coherence and fluctuation,for devices ranging from light-emitting diodes(LEDs)and cavity-enhanced LEDs to lasers,lying on the same two curves:one for linewidth narrowing versus intracavity photon number and the other for g(2)(0)versus intracavity photon number.

Optimized Three-Dimensional Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Whole Heart Imaging Utilizing Non-Selective Excitation and Compressed Sensing in Children and Adults with Congenital Heart Disease

Background:In congenital heart disease(CHD)patients,detailed three-dimensional anatomy depiction plays a pivotal role for diagnosis and therapeutical decision ***,the present study investigated the applicability of an advanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance(CMR)whole heart imaging approach utilizing nonselective excitation and compressed sensing for anatomical assessment and interventional guidance of CHD patients in comparison to conventional dynamic CMR ***:86 consecutive pediatric patients and adults with congenital heart disease(age,1 to 74 years;mean,35 years)underwent CMR imaging including a freebreathing,ECG-triggered 3D nonselective SSFP whole heart acquisition using compressed SENSE(nsWHcs).Anatomical assessability and signal intensity ratio(SIR)measurements were compared with conventional dynamic 3D-/4D-MR ***:The most frequent diagnoses were partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage(17/86,20%),transposition of the great arteries(15/86,17%),tetralogy of Fallot(12/86,14%),and a single ventricle(7/86,8%).Image quality of nsWHcs was rated as excellent/good in 98%of *** resulted in a reliable depiction of all large thoracic vessels(anatomic assessability,99%–100%)and the proximal segments of coronary arteries and coronary sinus(>90%).nsWHcs achieved a homogenously distributed SIR in all cardiac cavities and thoracic vessels without a significant difference between pulmonary and systemic circulation(10.9±3.5 and 10.6±3.4;p=0.15),while 3D angiography showed significantly increased SIR for targeted ***-targeted circulation(PA-angiography,15.2±8.1 vs.5.8±3.6,p<0.001;PV-angiography,7.0±3.9 vs.17.3±6.8,p<0.001).Conclusions:The proposed nsWHcs imaging approach provided a consistently high image quality and a homogeneous signal intensity distribution within the pulmonary and systemic circulation in pediatric patients and adults with a wide spectrum of congenital heart *** enabled detailed anatomi

Exploration of the Barriers and Education Needs of Non-Pediatric Hospital Emergency Department Providers in Pediatric Trauma Care

Study Objective: Nine million children are seen in emergency departments each year for traumatic injuries. Eighty percent of these children will be cared for in non-children’s hospital settings. We sought to understand the barriers and opportunities for optimal pediatric trauma care in non-pediatric emergency departments and to define practice-specific educational needs. Methods: This qualitative study consisted of focus groups from rural, regional and urban non-pediatric emergency department sites discussing pediatric trauma care. Groups were homogenous for the provider role and included 8 physician groups and 9 non-physician groups. Focus groups were led by a trained moderator using a discussion guide composed of open-ended questions which covered various topics of pediatric trauma care. Focus groups were audio-taped and later transcribed and the data were analyzed for major themes and key concepts. Results: A total of 107 providers participated in the focus groups (32 physicians and 75 non-physicians). Barriers to provide optimal pediatric trauma care expressed by providers included the lack of pediatric trauma experience, inadequate pediatric trauma training and the lack of confidence with assessment of the pediatric trauma patient. All providers across all types of hospitals indicated a need and interest in training focused on pediatric trauma, but topics covered, and skills needed varied by type of facility. Conclusions: Community emergency room providers indicated a need for pediatric trauma education. Specifically, hands-on training with high-fidelity simulation was identified as the most useful type of training to gain the skills and confidence needed to manage pediatric trauma patients in their emergency departments.

Social practices of nurse care coordination using sensor technologies e Challenges with an alert system adoption in assisted living communities for older adults

Objectives:From the view of everyday practices and the socio-technical coordination lens,this study aimed to analyz the gap between creators’intention and the users’implementation(mainly nursing staff and social workers)of an alert system in assisted living ***:Qualitative methods were employed by way of five user interviews and focus groups with six system *** instruments were applied for data collection to analyze the different clinical workflows versus the expectations of the system development ***:Results indicate that the clinical workflow changed over time,which led to a mismatch of nurse care coordination,social practices,and technology *** results show different mental models of the socio-technical *** the coordination theory,the following recommendations could be developed to overcome the ***,it is recommended that nursing staff set goals ***,a communication rhythmwith the nursing staff and developer teams should be established,with guided questions to facilitate the conversation,to shed light on the different workflows and the difference in social practices when using sensor technologies or alert ***,a checklist for new employees should be created so they know how and on which devices to use the alert ***,the user experience with the alert system should be improved(e.g.,an improved user interface).Conclusions:This work indicates recommendations to close the mental model gap to overcome the mismatch between optimal use of the alert system and how the nursing staff is actually using it.

Effect of Diet,Photoperiod and Host Density on Parasitism of Anisopteromalus calandrae on the Tobacco Beetle and Biological Parameters of the Parasitoid

Lasioderma serricorne is known to be pest of tobacco, besides of attacking other products in storage. Anisopteromalus calandrae is an ectoparasitoid of coleopteran larvae also parasitizing the tobacco beetle. This study was aimed to evaluate the parasitism of A. calandrae on different densities of L. serricorne larvae grown in different diets and photoperiods, and to record the longevity and reproductive potential of A. calandrae. Individuals of L. serricorne were raised in three diets: wheat flour (F);wheat flour and brewer’s yeast (FY) and wheat flour and dried tobacco (FT). Different amounts of host larvae (10, 20, 50 and 100) for each diet were exposed to a couple of parasitoids. The same larval densities from diet F were exposed for 24 h to a couple of adult parasitoids maintained in three photoperiods (0:24, 12:12 and 24:0 - scotophase: photophase). The highest values of apparent parasitism were in the density of 50 larvae in the FY diet (96.34%) and 100 F (92.91%). There was no significant difference in the parameters in each photoperiod in all larval densities. However, the treatment in which hosts and parasitoids always remained in scotophase, was the one that had a significantly higher sex ratio. Females had longer longevity than males surviving for up to 25 days. On the fourth day of larvae exposure occurred, the maximum number of offspring generated. It is inferred that A. calandrae has potential to be used as a control agent for coleopterans that attack stored products.
