Sperm kinematic, head morphometric and kinetic- morphometric subpopulations in the blue fox （Alopex lagopus）

This work provides information on the blue fox ejaculated sperm quality needed for seminal dose calculations. Twenty semen samples, obtained by masturbation, were analyzed for kinematic and morphometric parameters by using CASA-Mot and CASA-Morph system and principal component （PC） analysis. For motility, eight kinematic parameters were evaluated, which were reduced to PC1, related to linear variables, and PC2, related to oscillatory movement. The whole population was divided into three independent subpopulations： SP1, fast cells with linear movement; SP2, slow cells and nonoscillatory motility; and SP3, medium speed cells and oscillatory movement. In almost all cases, the subpopulation distribution by animal was significantly different. Head morphology analysis generated four size and four shape parameters, which were reduced to PC 1, related to size, and PC2, related to shape of the cells. Three morphometric subpopulations existed. SPI： large oval cells; SP2： medium size elongated cells; and SP3. small and short cells. The subpopulation distribution differed between animals. Combining the kinematic and morphometric datasets produced PC1, related to morphometric parameters, and PC2, related to kinematics, which generated four sperm subpopulations - SPI.. high oscillatory motility, large and short heads; SP2; medium velocity with small and short heads; SP3. slow motion small and elongated cells; and SP4. high linear speed and large elongated cells. Subpopulation distribution was different in all animals. The establishment of sperm subpopulations from kinematic, morphometric, and combined variables not only improves the well-defined fox semen characteristics and offers a good conceptual basis for fertility and sperm preservation techniques in this species, but also opens the door to use this approach in other species, included humans.

dogs have been under strong artificial selection as a consequence of their relationship with man. differences between breeds are evident that could be reflected in seminal characteristics. The present study was to evaluate differences in sperm head morphometry between seven well-defined breeds of dog： the British Bulldog, Chihuahua, German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Spanish Mastiff, Staffordshire Terrier, and Valencian Rat Hunting dog. Semen samples were obtained by masturbation and smears stained with diff-Quik. Morphometric analysis （CASA-Morph） produced four size and four shape parameters. Length, Ellipticity, and Elongation showed higher differences between breeds. MANOVA revealed differences among all breeds. Considering the whole dataset, principal component analysis （PCA） showed that PC1 was related to head shape and PC2 to size. Procluster analysis showed the British Bulldog to be the most isolated breed, followed by the German Shepherd. The PCA breed by breed showed the Chihuahua, Labrador Retriever, Spanish Mastiff, and Staffordshire Terrier to have PC1 related to shape and PC2 to size, whereas the British Bulldog, Valencia Rat Hunting dog, and German Shepherd had PC1 related to size and PC2 to shape. The dendrogram for cluster groupings and the distance between them showed the British Bulldog to be separated from the rest of the breeds. Future work on dog semen must take into account the large differences in the breeds＇ sperm characteristics. The results provide a base for future work on phylogenetic and evolutionary studies of dogs, based on their seminal characteristics.

目前用于心脑血管系统疾病的计算机辅助诊断系统比较少,本研究基于参加欧盟FP7 euHeart项目所做的工作,以对主动脉缩窄的处理为例,介绍一个基于核磁共振成像(MRI)和血流动力学计算的心脑血管疾病计算机辅助诊断系统,对系统的结构、功能和工作流程进行详细描述。该系统以患者病变血管的MRI图像和在颈动脉和股动脉处测得的血压波形为输入信息,通过图像处理模块、生理数据处理模块、计算网格生成模块以及流体动力学计算模块对这些数据进行分析处理,输出跨缩窄段的压差以辅助评估对患者进行干预手术的必要性,并输出病变血管段的流速分布、剪切应力分布等血流状态信息用于估算血流异常对血管内皮以及血细胞造成潜在机械损伤的程度。以一个典型病例的处理结果为例,对所开发的系统进行初步测试,结果表明所开发的系统运行结果准确可靠。本系统对于开发其他心脑血管疾病计算机辅助诊断系统具有借鉴意义。

Prevention of deep Vein Thrombosis by Panax Notoginseng Saponins Combined with Low-Molecular-Weight Heparin in Surgical Patients

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of deep vein thrombosis(dVT)prevention among realworld surgical inpatients who received panax notoginseng saponins(PNS)combined with low-molecularweight heparin(LMWH).Methods:A prospective cohort study was conducted among surgical patients between January 2016 and November 2018 in Xuanwu Hospital,Capital Medical University,Beijing,*** received LMWH alone or PNS combined with LMWH for preventing *** primary outcome was incidence of lower extremity dVT,which was screened once a *** in the LMWH group were given LMWH(enoxaparin)via hypodermic injection,4000-8000 AxalU once *** in the exposure group received PNS(Xuesaitong oral tablets,100 mg,3 times daily)combined with LMWH given the same as LMWH ***:Of the 325 patients screened for the study,281 participants were included in the final *** cohort was divided into PNS+LMWH group and LMWH group with 134 and 147 participants,*** was a significant difference of dVT incidence between two groups(P=0.01),with 21(15.7%)incident dVT in the PNS+LMWH group,and 41(27.9%)incident dVT in the LMWH *** with participants without dVT,the participants diagnosed with dVT were older and had higher d-dimer *** multivariate logistic regression moclel showed a significant lower risk of incident dVT among participants in the PNS+LMWH group compared with the LMWH group(odds ratio 0.46,95%confidence interval,0.25-0.86).There were no significant differences in thromboelaslography values(including R,K,Angle,and MA)and differences in severe bleeding between two *** symptomatic pulmonary embolism occurred during the ***:Combined application of PNS and LMWH can effectively reduce the incidence of dVT among surgical inpatients compared with LMWH monotherapy,without increased risk of bleeding.

Predicting phosphorus sorption isotherm parameters in soil using data of routine laboratory tests

Knowledge of phosphorus(P)sorption dynamics across different soil types could direct agronomic and environmental management of *** objective of this study was to predict P isotherm parameters for a national soil population using data of routine laboratory *** and Freundlich sorption parameters were calculated from two different ranges(0-25 and 0-50 mg P L^(-1))using an archive of representative agricultural soil types from *** linear regression(MLR)identified labile forms of aluminium(Al)and iron(Fe),organic matter(OM),cation exchange capacity(CEC),and clay as significant *** and Freundlich sorption capacities,Freundlich affinity constant,and Langmuir buffer capacity were predicted reliably,with R^(2) of independent validation>*** isotherm parameters were predicted from P sorbed at a single concentration of 50 mg P L^(-1)(S_(50)).An MLR prediction of P sorption maximum in the 0-50 mg P L-1 range was achieved,to an accurate standard,using S_(50),OM,and Mehlich-3 Fe(R^(2) of independent calibration and validation being 0.91 and 0.95,respectively).Using Giles’four shapes of isotherms(C,L,H,and S),L non-strict-and C-shaped isotherm curves accounted for 64% and 27% of the soils,*** clustering identified a separation of isotherm curves influenced by two ranges of Mehlich-3 *** with a low range of Mehlich-3 Al(2.5-698 mg kg^(-1))had no incidence of rapid sorption(C shape).Single point indices,Al,or available soil data make the regression approach a feasible way of predicting Langmuir parameters that could be included with standard agronomic soil P testing.

Context-dependent regulation of pectoralis myostatin and lipid transporters by temperature and photoperiod in dark-eyed juncos

A prominent example of seasonal phenotypic flexibility is the winter increase in thermogenic capacity (=summit metabolism, [Formula: see text]) in small birds, which is often accompanied by increases in pectoralis muscle mass and lipid catabolic capacity. Temperature or photoperiod may be drivers of the winter phenotype, but their relative impacts on muscle remodeling or lipid transport pathways are little known. We examined photoperiod and temperature effects on pectoralis muscle expression of myostatin, a muscle growth inhibitor, and its tolloid-like protein activators (TLL-1 and TLL-2), and sarcolemmal and intracellular lipid transporters in dark-eyed juncos . We acclimated winter juncos to four temperature (3 °C or 24 °C) and photoperiod [short-day (Sd) = 8L:16d; long-day (Ld) = 16L:8d] treatments. We found that , , , and lipid transporter mRNA expression and myostatin protein expression did not differ among treatments, but treatments interacted to influence lipid transporter protein expression. Fatty acid translocase (FAT/Cd36) levels were higher for cold Sd than for other treatments. Membrane-bound fatty acid binding protein (FABPpm) levels, however, were higher for the cold Ld treatment than for cold Sd and warm Ld treatments. Cytosolic fatty acid binding protein (FABP) levels were higher on Ld than on Sd at 3 °C, but higher on Sd than on Ld at 24 °C. Cold temperature groups showed upregulation of these lipid transporters, which could contribute to elevated M compared to warm groups on the same photoperiod. However, interactions of temperature or photoperiod effects on muscle remodeling and lipid transport pathways suggest that these effects are context-dependent.

Objectives:The use of topical corticosteroids to manage postoperative sinonasal symptoms after endoscopic skull base surgery (ESBS) has not been well *** quantified long‐term impact of postoperative steroid irrigations (SIs) on quality of life of patients after ***:Retrospective review of patients at the University of Pennsylvania undergoing ESBS from 2010 to *** on patient demographics and postoperative treatment with nasal saline irrigation twice daily with and without dissolved steroids (mometasone or budesonide) was ***,and 1‐,3‐,6‐,12‐,18‐,and 24‐month postoperative Sino‐Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT‐22) scores were ***:A total of 727 patients were assessed (53.4% males),with 479 patients in the no SI group and 248 patients in the SI *** SNOT‐22 scores did not differ significantly (P = 0.19).1‐,3‐,6‐,12‐,18‐,and 24‐month post‐op SNOT‐22 scores did not significantly differ between ***,mometasone irrigations resulted in significantly lower postoperative 2‐year SNOT‐22 scores compared to budesonide (P d saline (P = 0.03).Conclusions:Though corticosteroid irrigations are routine in managing inflammatory sinus disease,their role in postoperative management after ESBS for tumors is *** findings suggest that mometasone irrigation may be effective at improving postoperative quality of life in patients after ESBS.
