The fluorescence kinetics of 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) dissolved in cyclohexane was investigated as a function of temperature, concentration and 355 nm excitation pulse energy. At concentrations above 2.5 μm and excitation energies above 1 mJ a long-lived, very intense emission, which appears within less than 5 ns and lasts up to 70 ns, is observed. During the first 50 ns the decay does not follow an exponential but rather a linear behaviour. In oxygen saturated solutions the long-lived emission is suppressed and solely short-lived fluorescence with τ 1-state and competes with the formation of DPH-O2 contact charge-transfer complexes and intersystem crossing which both quench the fluorescence. Our investigations show that even the small amount of oxygen dissolved in nitrogen saturated solutions has a distinct influence on the fluorescence kinetics of DPH.

AIm：To report foveal thickness reduction in eyes with resolution of macular edema and recovery of a foveal depression after one-year of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor（anti-VEGF） therapy for center-involving diabetic macular edema（DmE）.mETHODS：Foveal thickness was assessed with optical coherence tomography to determine the central subfield foveal thickness（CSFT） and macular volume in 42 eyes with DmE（CSFT〉275 μm）. Evaluations also included measurement of best-corrected visual acuity（BCVA）, and were performed at baseline, and upon foveal depression recovery achieved after 12 monthly intravitreal injections of either 1.5 mg/0.06 mL bevacizumab（n=21） or 0.5 mg/0.05 mL ranibizumab（n=21）. Data was compared to 42 eyes of normally sighted, non-diabetic, healthy individuals with similar age, gender and race ***：mean baseline BCVA was 0.59±0.04 and 0.32± 0.03 log mAR（P〈0.001） after treatment and resolution of DmE, with all, but 3 eyes, showing BCVA improvement. mean CSFT before treatment was 422.0±20.0 μm, and after treatment, decreased to 241.6±4.6 μm（P〈0.001）, which is significantly thinner than CSFT found in control subjects（272.0±3.4 μm; P〈0.001）. moreover, in 33/42 Dm eyes（79%）, CSTF was thinner than the matched control eye. macular volume showed comparable results, but with lower differences between groups（control：8.5±0.4 mm^3; DmE：8.2±1.0 mm^3; P=0.0267）.CONCLUSION：DmE eyes show significantly lower foveal thickness than matched controls after DmE resolution achieved with one-year anti-VEGF therapy. Further investigation into the reasonsfor this presumable retinal atrophy using fluorescein angiography and functional parameters as well as establishing possible predictors is warranted. This finding should be considered during the treatment of DmE.

Background： Bacillus spp. seem to be an alternative to antimicrobial growth promoters for improving animals＇ health and performance. However, there is little information on the effect of Bacillus spp. in combination with different dietary crude protein（CP） levels on the ileal digestibility and microbiota composition. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the effect of Bacillus spp. supplementation to low-（LP） and high-protein diets（HP） on ileal CP and amino acid（AA） digestibility and intestinal microbiota ***： Eight ileally cannulated pigs with an initial body weight of 28.5 kg were randomly allocated to a rowcolumn design with 8 pigs and 3 periods of 16 d each. The assay diets were based on wheat-barley-soybean meal with two protein levels： LP（14% CP, as-fed） and HP diet（18% CP, as-fed）. The LP and HP diets were supplemented with or without Bacil us spp. at a level of 0.04%（as-fed）. The apparent ileal digestibility（AID） and standardized ileal digestibility（SID） of CP and AA was determined. Bacterial community composition from ileal digesta was analyzed by Illumina amplicon sequencing and quantitative real-time PCR. Data were analyzed as a 2 × 2 factorial design using the GLImmIX procedures of ***： The supplementation with Bacillus spp. did not affect both AID and SID of CP and AA in growing ***, there was no difference in AID of CP and AA between HP and LP diets, but SID of cystine, glutamic acid,glycine, and proline was lower（P 〈 0.05） in pigs fed the HP diets. Verticillium dahliae induced wilt disease in strawberry can cause severe yield losses and thus lead to inevitable negative economic impacts. Inoculation of plants with non-pathogenic strains of Verticillium was conducted as a biologic control agent (BCA) according to the concept that preoccupation of the ecologic niche rendered strawberry plants immune to infection with soil-borne pathogenic Verticillium. This concept was tested for economic viability in a field trial under commercial conditions. Results were reported for 2 years of field trials under practice conditions in two locations in Brandenburg, Germany. Inoculation was shown to have a positive effect of 20% of plants, while 30% of plants remain unaffected and of equally high vitality. However, 50%-0% of plants were impacted negatively, showing severe wilt symptoms up to total loss. The characteristic progression of wilt symptoms suggested an infestation caused by Phytophtora sp. and other pathogens. Further results showed that the main factor of the side effects was caused by different qualities of plant material in interaction to the inoculation with the BCA and only to a minor extent depended on pre-infestation of soils. We conclude that specific conditions, such as certified plant material or soil analysis for other pathogens besides Verticillium, avoided these side-effects relevant for commercial farming.

The steady laminar pipe flow of a suspension with a gas volume fraction ∅≤0.5 and small or intermediate bubble deformations in long, and straight sections of a circular pipe is calculated. The calculations are based on the constitutive equation that was originally derived for dilute emulsions and further developed for concentrated suspensions containing bubbles. In contrast to the literature, an analytical procedure is used to determine the solution of a pipe flow more accurately. The results are presented and discussed with respect to the Reynolds number Re and capillary number Ca. If Ca 1, a bubble suspension has a parabolic velocity profile indicating a Newtonian rheology. If Ca ≈1, two regimes of flow are observed in agreement with the literature;that is, an inner plug flow where deformation rates are low and an outer flow where deformation rates are high. These results imply that, if Ca ∅?and that, if Ca ≥1, the opposite effect occurs;that is, the Reynolds number Re increases with increasing gas volume fraction.

Dendritic cells(DCs)are indispensable for defense against pathogens but may also contribute to *** of DCs upon the sensing of pathogens by Toll-like receptors(TLRs)is largely mediated by pattern recognition receptor/nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)signaling and depends on the appropriate ubiquitination of the respective signaling ***,the ubiquitinating and deubiquitinating enzymes involved and their interactions are only incompletely ***,we reveal that the deubiquitinase OTU domain,ubiquitin aldehyde binding 1(OTUB1)is upregulated in DCs upon murine Toxoplasma gondii infection and lipopolysaccharide *** of DCs with the TLR11/12 ligand *** profilin and the TLR4 ligand lipopolysaccharide induced an increase in NF-κB activation in OTUB1-competent cells,resulting in elevated interleukin-6(IL-6),IL-12,and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)production,which was also observed upon the specific stimulation of TLR2,TLR3,TLR7,and ***,OTUB1 promoted NF-κB activity in DCs by K48-linked deubiquitination and stabilization of the E2-conjugating enzyme UBC13,resulting in increased K63-linked ubiquitination of IRAK1(IL-1 receptor-associated kinase 1)and TRAF6(TNF receptor-associated factor 6).Consequently,DC-specific deletion of OTUB1 impaired the production of cytokines,in particular IL-12,by DCs over the first 2 days of *** infection,resulting in the diminished production of protective interferon-γ(IFN-γ)by natural killer cells,impaired control of parasite replication,and,finally,death from chronic ***,all of which could be prevented by low-dose IL-12 treatment in the first 3 days of *** contrast,impaired OTUB1-deficient DC activation and cytokine production by OTUB1-deficient DCs protected mice from lipopolysaccharide-induced ***,these findings identify OTUB1 as a potent novel regulator of DCs during infectious and inflammatory diseases.
