New serological markers in pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease

The spectrum of serological markers associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is rapidly growing. Due to frequently delayed or missed diagnoses, the application of non-invasive diagnostic tests for IBD, as well as differentiation between ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD), would be useful in the pediatric population. In addition, the combination of pancreatic autoantibodies and antibodies against Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies/perinuclear cytoplasmic antibody (pANCA) improved the sensitivity of serological markers in pediatric patients with CD and UC. Some studies suggested that age-associated differences in the patterns of antibodies may be present, particularly in the youngest children. In CD, most patients develop stricturing or perforating complications, and a significant number of patients undergo surgery during the disease course. Based on recent knowledge, serum antibodies are qualitatively and quantitatively associated with complicated CD behavior and CD-related surgery. Pediatric UC is characterized by extensive colitis and a high rate of colectomy. In patients with UC, high levels of anti-CBir1 and pANCA are associated with the development of pouchitis after ileal pouch-anal anastomosis. Thus, serologic markers for IBD can be applied to stratify IBD patients into more homogeneous subgroups with respect to disease progression. In conclusion, identification of patients at an increased risk of rapid disease progression is of great interest, as the application of early and more aggressive pharmaceutical intervention could have the potential to alter the natural history of IBD, and reduce complications and hospitalizations.

Characteristics of allergic colitis in breast-fed infants in the absence of cow's milk allergy

AIm: To investigate the characteristics of mucosal le-sions and their relation to laboratory data and long-term follow up in breast-fed infants with allergic colitis. mETHODS: In this study 31 breast-fed infants were prospectively evaluated (mean age, 17.4 wk) whose rectal bleeding had not ceased after a maternal elimi-nation diet for cow's milk. Thirty-four age-matched and breast-fed infants (mean age, 16.9 wk) with no rectal bleeding were enrolled for laboratory testing as con-trols. Laboratory findings, colonoscopic and histological characteristics were prospectively evaluated in infants with rectal bleeding. Long-term follow-up with differ-ent nutritional regimes (L-amino-acid based formula or breastfeeding) was also included. RESULTS: Iron deficiency, peripheral eosinophilia andthrombocytosis were significantly higher in patients with allergic colitis in comparison to controls (8.4±3.2 μmol/L vs 13.7±4.7 μmol/L, Pmphonodular hyperplasia or aphthous ulceration were present in 83% of patients. Twenty-two patients were given L-amino acid-based formula and 8 contin-ued the previous feeding. Time to cessation of rectal bleeding was shorter in the special formula feeding group (mean, 1.4 wk; range, 0.5-3 wk) when com-pared with the breast-feeding group (mean, 5.3 wk; range, 2-9 wk). Nevertheless, none of the patients ex-hibited rectal bleeding at the 3-mo visit irrespective of the type of feeding. Peripheral eosinophilia and cessa-tion of rectal bleeding after administration of elemental formula correlated with a higher density of mucosal eosinophils. CONCLUSION: Infant hematochezia, after cow's milk allergy exclusion, is generally a benign and probably self-limiting disorder despite marked mucosal abnor-mality. Formula feeding results in shorter time to cessa-tion of rectal bleeding; however, breast-feeding should not be discouraged in long-lasting

Scanning-slit topography in patients with keratoconus

AIm： To evaluate the anterior and posterior corneal surfaces using scanning-slit topography and to determine the diagnostic ability of the measured corneal parameters in ***： Orbscan II measurements were taken in 39 keratoconic corneas previously diagnosed by corneal topography and in 39 healthy eyes. The central minimum, maximum, and astigmatic simulated keratometry（K） and anterior axial power values were determined. Spherical and cylindrical mean power diopters were obtained at the central and at the steepest point of the cornea both on anterior and on posterior mean power maps. Pachymetry evaluations were taken at the center and paracentrally in the 3 mm zone from the center at a location of every 45 degrees. Receiver operating characteristic（ROC） analysis was used to determine the best cut-off values and to evaluate the utility of the measured parameters in identifying patients with ***： The minimum, maximum and astigmatic simulated K readings were 44.80±3.06 D, 47.17±3.67 D and 2.42±1.84 D respectively in keratoconus patients and these values differed significantly（P〈0.0001 for all comparisons） from healthy subjects. For all pachymetry measurements and for anterior and posterior mean power values significant differences were found between the two groups. moreover, anterior central cylindrical power had the best discrimination ability（area under the ROC curve=0.948）.CONCLUSION： The results suggest that scanning-slit topography and pachymetry are accurate methods both for keratoconus screening and for confirmation of the diagnosis.

Objective:Neonates with congenital heart disease(CHD)and perinatal stroke have high mortality and survivors are at risk for poor long-term neurodevelopmental *** aim of this study was to assess the risk factors and outcome of neonates with both CHD and mRI-confirmed perinatal stroke(Study Group)and compare those to the risk factors and outcome of infants matched for CHD without stroke(Control-1)and of infants matched for mRI-confirmed stroke without CHD(Control-2).methods:We conducted a population-based case-control study enrolling 28 term neonates with CHD and mRI-confirmed acute perinatal stroke born between 2007–2017 in the Central-Hungarian *** of the control groups included 56 *** Bayley Scales of Infant Development-II,the Brunet-Lézine test and the Binet Intelligence scales-V were used for neurodevelopmental follow-up at a median age of 61 ***:mortality was highest in the Study Group(25%compared to 5%and 2%,respectively,p=0.001).Adverse neurodevelopmental outcome was prevalent in the Study(53%)and Control-2 Groups(52%,p=0.03).Significantly different parameters among the three groups included Apgar scores,mode of delivery,gestational age at birth,cardiac interventions and twin *** a multivariable regression analysis adjusted for clinically relevant parameters,patients in the Study Group had significantly higher odds for mortality compared to patients in the Control-1 Group(OR:6.595%CI:1.1–39.4).Conclusions:Neonates with perinatal stroke and CHD are at a higher risk for dying compared to neonates with CHD without *** addition,the stroke-associated direct insult to the brain likely plays an important role in the development of neurodevelopmental morbidity in these patients.

Rothmund-thomson syndrome and cutan T-cell lymphoma in childhood

We report a 3-year-old girl suffering from RothmundThomson Syndrome (RTS). The patient at birth had multiplex anomalies: poikilodermatous rash, sceletal abnormalities: palatoschisis, micrognathi, aplasia radii, hypoplastic right and left thenar and thumbs, pesequinus on both site, ectopy renis. The patient in the later ages was detected dental malformation, facial dysmorfism. At the age 3, she had lasion in her muscle. After biopsy, histological examination showed cutan T-cell lymphoma. The patient is the first case who had cutan T-cell lymphoma associated with RTS in this young age.

Scheimpflug imaged corneal changes on anterior and posterior surfaces after collagen cross-linking

AIm:To compare the anterior and posterior corneal parameters before and after collagen cross-linking therapy for ***:Collagen cross-linking was performed in31 eyes of 31 keratoconus patients(mean age 30.6±8.9y).Prior to treatment and an average 7mo after therapy,Scheimpflug analysis was performed using Pentacam *** addition to corneal thickness assessments,corneal radius,elevation,and aberrometric measurements were performed both on anterior and posterior corneal *** obtained before and after surgery were statistically ***:In terms of horizontal and vertical corneal radius,and central corneal thickness no deviations were observed an average 7mo after *** higher order aberration showed no difference neither on anterior nor on posterior corneal *** follow-up period,no significant deviation was detected regarding elevation values obtained by measurement in mm units between the 3.0-8.0 ***:Corneal stabilization could be observed in terms of anterior and posterior corneal surfaces,elevation and higher order aberration values 7mo after collagen cross-linking therapy for keratoconus.

Proteoglycans are a group of molecules that contain at least one glycosaminoglycan chain,such as a heparan,dermatan,chondroitin,or keratan sulfate,covalently attached to the protein *** molecules arecategorized based on their structure,localization,and function,and can be found in the extracellular matrix,on the cell surface,and in the ***-surface heparan sulfate proteoglycans,such as syndecans,are the primary type present in healthy liver ***,deterioration of the liver results in overproduction of other proteoglycan *** purpose of this article is to provide a current summary of the most relevant data implicating proteoglycans in the development and progression of human and experimental liver cancer.A review of our work and other studies in the literature indicate that deterioration of liver function is accompanied by an increase in the amount of chondroitin sulfate *** alteration of proteoglycan composition interferes with the physiologic function of the liver on several *** article details and discusses the roles of syndecan-1,glypicans,agrin,perlecan,collagen XVIII/endostatin,endocan,serglycin,decorin,biglycan,asporin,fibromodulin,lumican,and versican in liver ***,glypicans,agrin,and versican play significant roles in the development of liver ***,the presence of decorin could potentially provide protective effects.

Corneal biomechanical data and biometric parameters measured with Scheimpflug-based devices on normal corneas

AIm： To analyze the correlations between ocular biomechanical and biometric data of the eye,measured by Scheimpflug-based devices on healthy ***： Three consecutive measurements were carried out using the corneal visualization Scheimpflug technology（Cor Vis ST） device on healthy eyes and the 10 device-specific parameters were *** HR-derived parameters（corneal curvature radii on the anterior and posterior surfaces;apical pachymetry;corneal volume;corneal aberration data;depth,volume and angle of the anterior chamber） and axial length（AL） from IOLmaster were correlated with the 10 specific CorV is ST ***： measurements were conducted in 43 eyes of 43 volunteers（age 61.24±15.72y）.The 10 specific Cor Vis ST data showed significant relationships with corneal curvature radii both on the anterior and posterior surface,pachymetric data,root mean square（RmS） data of lower-order aberrations,and posterior RmS of higher-order aberrations and spherical aberration of the posterior *** chamber depth showed a significant relationship,but there were no significant correlations between corneal volume,anterior chamber volume,mean chamber angle or AL and the 10 specific CorV is ST ***： Cor Vis ST-generated parameters are influenced by corneal curvature radii,some corneal RmS data,but corneal volume,anterior chamber volume,chamber angle and AL have no correlation with the biomechan-ical *** parameters measured by CorV is ST seem to refer mostly to corneal properties of the eye.

Background:Proprioceptive accuracy refers to the individual’s ability to perceive proprioceptive information,that is,the information referring to the actual state of the locomotor system,which originates from mechanoreceptors located in various parts of the locomotor system and from tactile receptors located in the *** accuracy appears to be an important aspect in the evaluation of sensorimotor functioning;however,no widely accepted standard assessment *** this systematic review,our goal was to identify and categorize different methods that are used to assess different aspects of proprioceptive ***:A literature search was conducted in 5 different databases(Pubmed,SPORTDiscus,PsycINFO,ScienceDirect,and SpringerLink).Results:Overall,1139 scientific papers reporting 1346 methods were included in this *** methods assess 8 different aspects of proprioception:(a)the perception of joint position,(b)movement and movement extent,(c)trajectory,(d)velocity,and the sense of(e)force,(f)muscle tension,(g)weight,and(h)*** apply various paradigms of psychophysics(i.e.,the method of adjustment,constant stimuli,and limits).Conclusion:As the outcomes of different tasks with respect to various body parts show no associations(i.e.,proprioceptive accuracy is characterized by site-specificity and method-specificity),the appropriate measurement method for the task needs to be chosen based on theoretical considerations and/or ecological validity.

Screening potential genotoxic effect of aquatic plant extracts using the mussel micronucleus test
